Mercedes imports GLC. EDIT: Launched at 50.70 lakhs

Mod Note: Our Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Drive Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Mercedes has now brought in the GLC for homologation. This conforms with the expected launch in mid-2016. Variant that has been imported is the GLC300 4MATIC. It is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine capable of 241hp and 370Nm of torque.

With GLC, Mercedes will finally have a rival for likes of BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 et cetera. GLC is the global replacement for GLK which never made it to India.

Unlike GLE, Mercedes will evidently launch the GLC with a petrol engine right from start, most likely owing to recent restrictions on diesel cars.

And a real great pity too that the GLK never made it here. It is a fabulous car. Quite popular in the States, EU and other LHD markets.

Just the right size. Personally I liked the slightly boxy older design more than the new GLC's curvier design though.

I read on the internet that there was some issue with the 4WD system in the GLK which caused it to be incompatible for the RHD version - something about the 4WD drivetrain fouling with the RHD steering etc.

See Article Attached:

Also see this newer set of articles which talk about some re-engineering having been done...

re: Mercedes imports GLC. EDIT: Launched at 50.70 lakhs

The Mercedes-Benz GLC has been spotted at an Indian dealership, indicating that it's scheduled launch in June 2016 is near.

Quote:
The company has plans to get the GLC by this June or towards the end of May 2016. The GLC is based on the C-Class platform and will be a rear wheel drive crossover. This will be creating a new segment in between the GLA and the GLE.

The GLC will be locally assembled in India, as it shares the same C-Class platform. There will be an all-wheel drive version (4MATIC) only on the GLC. The two engines will be GLC 300 4MATIC and the GLC 220d 4MATIC on offer.

To be launched in a 2.1L petrol version initially, the GLC comes with an all-wheel 4MATIC drive. It will rival the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.

Motor Octane

Great. Eagerly awaiting the official review.

Actually, if possible we should try and publish our reviews before or along with the other domestic reviews. I know it is challenging since our reviews our so much more detailed and in depth.

I think it is a great idea for Mercedes to offer a decent petrol engine right from the start. Hope they price it competitively.

Thanks.

The GLC has been launched at 50.70 lacs.

For the kit that GLC offers, I think it is decently priced. And for a change there is petrol version as well.

re: Mercedes imports GLC. EDIT: Launched at 50.70 lakhs

Very good pricing by Mercedes and I believe it undercuts both the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 on list price. Its another matter that both these models are heavily discounted these days.

The kit is quite generous too. And they have kept it simple. Both the petrol and diesel models are equally specced and priced also close to each other. Brilliant move to get the petrol in given the uncertain future of diesels in India and the fact that the diesel mill in the GLC at 2143cc is in the villain zone i.e above 2000cc

My only grouse is the weak diesel power plant. Given the weight of this SUV, expect the performance to be mediocre from the diesel. I wonder whether the 250d will make a late entry?

I doubt if it would feel underpowered. It develops about 170 HP and 400NM of torque, which sounds good. Of course it might not be a hoot to drive, but I believe this satisfy the masses.

GLC220 CDI & GLC300 at nearly the same price! This is quite a surprise considering the petrol is a lot more powerful and is prices almost 15% higher internationally.

Did anybody get a price quote from the dealers? Dealer at Bangalore gave me an ex showroom price of 56.89 lakhs for the GLC 300 4matic edition 1 (CBU). I have attached the price list from the dealer.

But the Mercedes official website says 50.9 lakhs for the edition 1.

http://www.mercedes-benz.co.in/conte...Press_Releases

Hope this is not the actual price for the CBU versions.

Mercedes launched its GLC SUV at a price of Rs 50.70 lakh for the diesel GLC 220d 4Matic and Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). This is Pune exshowroom, not sure if there should be a apprx 6 lakh increase in exshowroom price for Bangalore?

I think given 14.5% VAT in Karnataka, there should be an ~1.1 lakh increase in ex showroom price. Am I missing something?
