Mahindra does not have a light weight monocoque SUV with a compact car-like driving manners in that segment. The S201 will bring them that.

re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Based on Tivoli,Mahindra & Mahindra’s (M&M) all-new compact SUV (Code: S201) expected in mid-2018 . Will take on the< 4m CUV segment players.

The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs-0_578_872_0_100_http___cdni_autocarindia_com_extraimages_20170917083057_mahindra_s201.jpg
The S201 will be powered by state-of-the-art petrol and diesel engines developed in-house, which will give us best-in-class performance.

Quote:
The S201’s motor belongs to Mahindra’s all-new mFalcon engine family. The first derivative of the mFalcon made its debut in naturally aspirated form as the G80 1.2-litre, three-cylinder unit under the hood of the Mahindra KUV100, making a modest 80.6hp.

The new compact SUV's 1.2 motor is essentially the same three-cylinder unit with the same bore and stroke but it gets direct fuel-injection and a fairly large turbocharger which will result in a massive leap in power to around 140hp. Compared to the competition, the S201’s motor is a good 30hp more than the Tata Nexon's and around 20hp more than the new Ford 1.5-litre ‘Dragon’ which will make its global debut in India later this year
Quote:
The S201 will also be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel, which is essentially the 1.2, three-cylinder diesel motor that was also first introduced in the KUV100, but with an extra cylinder.
Power figures haven't been disclosed yet but sources reveal that the 1.5 diesel could develop as much as 125hp, which again gives the S201 a power output that is way ahead of its rivals

re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

This car also wears the same kind of style on the high flaired wheel arch like the upcoming Rexton. Just don't like it. It reminds me of the design of the HM Ambassador! Didn't like the tail-lamp cluster either. When other car makers are moving away from the design philosophy that was once a hit (Fabia, Swift, Mini Cooper to name a few) - the Tivoli is in that direction.

This image above looks like a culmination of a supersonic speed crash (remember the 1st Tata ARIA ad? ) involving -
Mini Cooper / Suzuki Swift -- Bottom width, A pillars, roof angle
Alto K10 - headlamps are a straight lift
HM Ambassador - the wheel arch flairs
Fiat 500 - grille/bumper
Skoda Fabia - C pillar, rear window design, bonnet
Vitara Brezza - Bottom front bumper and airdam

Wheel size & OVRMs look as if picked from B2 segment size in proportion to the rest of the car.

It doesn't have 2 headlamps and 2 fog lamps. It has 4 headlamps!

I already can't see a reason why people will buy this over incumbents.

It is a bit confused but not all that bad IMHO. Looks pretty good in black.

I see the inspiration for the rear wheel arch crease of the Mahindra KUV100, though executed far better here.

Two versions for Mahindra’s Tivoli-based S201 SUV, to rival Vitara Brezza and Hyundai's Creta in the >4 m segment.

Mahindra’s S201 range to feature a five-seat sub-four-metre compact SUV and a longer seven-seat variant.

Quote:
Mahindra is readying two variants of the SsangYong Tivoli-based SUV which will launch in India by the middle of next year. While one variant will be a sub-four-metre compact SUV with seating for five, the other will be a stretched variant with a third row of seats, making it a seven-seater. The Indian SUV-maker believes that there is a large market for seven-seat SUVs that does not overlap with that of five-seaters.

Wow! People have really taken the idea from Datson (GO+)! Making any car a 7 seater now. A stretched Tivoli just to make it a 7 seater and appeal to the masses. Considering how the normal Tivoli looks, the longer 7 seater one is going to be a really hideous vehicle.

You missed the "fairly large turbo-charger" which has been strapped on to the engine.

Huge power figures can be extracted from almost any engine with a big enough turbo, but how that power is produced affects its real world utility.

Oh my God ! Look at that front grill. Mahindra has enough space there to place their rabbit tooth grill. And they might actually spoil a neutral looking vehicle.

Just wondering, hasn't Pininfarina now been a part of Mahindra long enough to have an influence on these products? I'm not sure maybe their handiwork will start to show in the next development cycles. I only ask because, while the Tivoli is a fairly neutral and acceptable, it is an important product for both Ssangyong & Mahindra - one that needs to stand out. This is a decently designed vehicle but - IMO - it doesn't seem like something that would have been done by the designers at Pininfarina.

The Tivoli is a nice looking car and I've seen this up close here in Singapore. But not sure why M&M have to make every car a 7 seater ? What is the point ? There is a clear segment of buyers who don't need those extra seats and would rather have a clean boot configuration. Anyway M&M has so many other vehicles that will serve this need starting from the TUV long and short versions, Scorpio, XUV etc

I saw the same car on the NH4 while driving to Bangalore from Pune.

It looked quite fast.
