Fully agree on this. I have a feeling that Mahindra will start the 3OO from ~6.75 for the base petrol, going all the way till ~12 lacs for the top end diesel. The model looks solid on paper and it surely has potential to displace Nexon and ecosport. I believe that Nexon with its "unusual" looks has a market of its own and may not be impacted much (~10% at max). Ford and Honda on the other hand will be the most impacted and Brezza will be laughing at others as usual.

completely agree with your point..I believe XUV300 can do somewhere between 5-6k units ( provided there aren't any serious initial glitches)

Disclaimer - Photoshop effort.

Just wanted to see how the XUV 3OO would look in more popular colours - like White, Silver and Black.

IMO - this will be a much better hit with the masses compared to the curvy designs of Nexon and WRV.

Thanks CD! I really like what I see. This certainly has the looks to take the fight to the Nexon, Brezza and even Creta. I believe, Ecosport and Nexon will be the most affected. Really good to see the effort Mahindra is making, both with the Marrazo and now the 300. With so many interesting cars in the coming years, it will be interesting to see whether Maruti can still hold on to their 50% share.

Really good if this is a base variant, given the usual strategy of pricing the base variant low.

Mahindra XUV300 bookings open

Mahindra has started accepting bookings for the XUV300. The compact SUV is scheduled to be launched in February 2019. Mahindra has revealed that it will compete with SUVs in the Rs. 8 - 12 lakh (ex-showroom) price range.

The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs-xuv300-top.jpg

The XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli. It will be available in four variants - W4, W6, W8 and W8 (O). The car has a trapezoidal grille with chrome inserts and sweptback headlamps with V-shaped LED DRLs. It has a dual-tone front bumper with a silver scuff plate and a pair of fog lamps. The SUV sports a floating roof design and has wraparound LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the XUV300 gets a dual-tone interior with a touchscreen infotainment system and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel. It has leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and an electric sunroof.

The XUV300 will be available with a choice of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol and diesel engines are claimed to produce 200 Nm and 300 Nm of torque respectively.

Safety features on offer include 7 airbags, disc brakes all-round and ABS and front and rear parking sensors.

Wind tunnel testing of XUV 300.

Some observations:
* Alloys look like steel disks when running at speed (I like this)
* Rear headrests are adjustable

Priced well, this could provide potential Brezza buyers wanting a petrol car an alternative.

The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli

Indicative pricing of the XUV 300.
8-12 lakhs ex showroom. This sub 4 meter SUV will be priced to fill the gap between Brezza and Creta. The top spec at 12 lakhs ex-showroom feels expensive.

Top end Nexon and Brezza costs 9.66 and 9.83L respectively for their manual versions.

XUV 3OO top end gets -

1. 7 airbags
2. Sunroof
3. All wheel disc brakes.
4. Dual Zone climate control
5. Front parking sensors.

Near 11L ex-showroom is justified IMO, 12L is pushing things way too far! Thats Creta 1.4 diesel territory.

re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

300 Nm - 30.59 Kgm, Seriously !!

So at one point in time, I owned the Magnum, it had 314 Nm and 120.5 PS, the important part there was, 314 Nm with FGT, delivered full throttle at 2000 on the Tacho and and 120.5 Ps @ 3000.

Again, point to noted, 121 Ps at a very low RPM, believe me, it was a super hoot to drive, suspension, gear shift and other things were a charm.

Why I am mentioning all this on the 3OO thread ??

Well, Optra was 1370 Kgs, this thing should be in the 1200-1250 ballpark, so if the gear ratios are right, the Turbo is in the right state of tune (love the turbulent shove in the back ones, not the linear delivery), this surely shall raise hairs at the back of the neck !!

Let alone the Optra, the all mighty Cruze in 2009 was offered in the 327 Nm guise

To hell with the ride, creature comforts and blah blah, a Napoli Black (how I wish the interiors could be offered in all Black) with the engine being in the right state of tune, this shall be hell of a beast.

With the T/W ratio, it has the capability to milk the Compass, let's not even talk about the Creta's, Brezza's, EcoS's, Nexon's, SCross's of our automobile deprived nation.

A W4 at 9 OTR is bang for the buck (vis-a-vis the Compass 85% of the Torque at less than 50% of the price), 1.6 Alpha good 4 years back at 15 odd was too much greed from MSIL.

The only thing that hurts me is, 1.5 shall not be close to the VM Motori 2.0

I have read about these numbers (being offered in 300Nm) on ACI, looking at what is spoken/written and what finally gets delivered, I cast my doubts that M&M shall deliver the full blown Marazzo specs.

Till the official words come, keeping fingers crossed.

Now if we compare this with Eco sport 'S' variant that has 6 airbags, Sun roof, 17-inch wheels, Mahindra has the opportunity to price it closer to 12 lacs. We know that Eco sport 'S' is an expensive proposition and Mahindra is known to give VFM products so they will undercut the S variant by some margin. My guess is: W8(O) at ~11.5 ex-showroom Delhi.
