re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Boot looks bigger than what they claim for two possible reasons
1. Car is quite wide, when compared with rivals like Ecosport.
2. Boot doesn't look very deep, hence usable area between the parcel tray and boot floor might be less than what we expect.

I dont think Mahindra will be able to price W8(O) petrol below 10 lacs looking at the equipment on offer. But, if they are able to do that, then it will definitely be a landmark pricing.

Nexon XZ+ Petrol single tone is priced at 9 lacs and XUV 300 offers following substantial extra's: Sun roof, Cruise control, 7 airbags instead of 2, dual zone CC, 17-inch wheels instead of 16, discs all around, and TPMS (Not sure). My guess is W8(O) petrol will be priced closer to 10.5 lacs and add over a lakh for the diesel variant. This will still be fair pricing IMO.

1. I checked the vehicle yesterday and found out that 3 people can be seated in 2nd row without much issue. The floor has only a slight hump in the middle.

2. Boot floor can be moved one step down (by 4-5 inches), which liberates more space.

re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

The international version of the Ssangyog Tivoli comes in two variants. The basic version with a length of approx 4.2m has a boot space of 423L and the XLV (stretched version) has a whopping 720L of Bootspace. Due to the the length reduction to less than 4 M, the boot space has gone down to 257L in the India version. If Mahindra get good success with the XUV300, they could possibly spawn a seven seater XUV400 version based on the Tivoli XLV.

The stretched version still looks quite elegant and proportionate and to me it looks better than the shorter version!

Got a chance to check it out in flesh.

Boot is small.

Cabin space is less - headroom is less compared to other compact SUVs, rear legroom is average, rear shoulder room is just enough for 3 adults.

Interiors look good. But the very light shade interiors will be impossible to maintain. It is not even beige. It is closer to ivory white.

Most likely has a better build quality than brezza, wrv. Not sure if build quality is as good as EcoSport.

If I put everything together, this is a car that will appeal only to three sets of people - performance enthusiasts for its torquey diesel engine, and those who are smitten by its looks, and those who value the 7 airbags plus disc brakes.

In short it scores high on performance, safety and low on practicality, utility. Won't be able to hold a candle to brezza. Will affect nexon somewhat. Will affect EcoSport very much.

Yes, the car isn't tall. And due to that it falls behind in road presence. It has nowhere near the road presence of Creta, or the tall EcoSport. I doubt it has as much road presence as even the nexon or brezza.

One would expect the larger width of xuv 300 to improve it's road presence. But the opposite seems to be happening in reality. The combination of lower height, larger width, and the end-to-end horizontal grills makes the car look like it is sitting squat, thus further reducing it's visual road presence.

I suspect, a vertical grill design would have made the car appear taller, and compensated for the lower height of the car. The mahindra design team have made a blunder here I think.

Found this variant wise comparison in xuv300 Facebook page. Pricing is the key now, but looking at the features I guess it will not be cheap!

The price difference between W4 and W6 must be 20k..

Most of the features are reserved for W8 while the remaining 5 airbags for the W8(0). It would been great if the W8 had all the safety features and the W8(0) all the infotainment and luxury features.

Only a minority of us Team Bhp'ians think this way - the market clearly prefers better infotainment over safety features.

I'm glad Mahindra is providing the full set of baloons and electronic aids and not trying to compete directly against Nexon and Brezza.

Seriously! W6 makes no sense. Why do they even have this variant?

XUV 300 caught on video in Mumbai suburbs

Gives an idea of its road presence, especially towards the end when it stops next to an SCross.

Rear LEDS and Brake lights look striking

I saw the XUV 300 at the dealers yard a few days ago. Since it was in the yard, it was locked and I didn't get a chance to sit inside the car. From what I could see from outside, the rear seat backrest looked very upright, and not set at a comfortable angle. Also the dealer folks confirmed to me that the rear seat backrest doesn't have recline feature.

Did you get a chance to sit inside the car? What did you feel about the backrest angle of the rear seats?

A big big disappointment. My Santro has 218 litres of bootspace and xuv300 has 265L. So the long wait has proved futile for me. Looks like I should re-look at Kicks. I had almost decided not to go for Kicks and was almost certain that I have found the car I needed. But that was not to be

Some pics of the XUV 300. With 300Nm of torque and 115 bhp of power this appears to be quite a powerful car - a new engine by Mahindra.
