Re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Just noticed something in the thread subject, it should be XUV3OO (XUV3 double O) instead of XUV300 (XUV three hundred). The same is there in the XUV5OO official review thread title.

Its 300 and 500 (hundred) as per Mahindra website. Maybe the XUV500 started getting referred to as five double O by the public, since Mahindra SUVs names usually ends in O, like Bolero, Scorpio, Xylo, Marazzo. Or it might be James Bond effect! (double O 7)

At least on the bigger XUV, the pronunciation always seemed to have been double O's. In fact there was lot of emphasis on this by Mahindra itself. They even said it that way during the launch event.

Re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Mahindra is doing a Honda, in xuv300 pricing. Honda is a master at killing capable products like Jazz and BRV by overpricing them.

Once a car gets labeled as too expensive for what it is, it never really recovers fully in the Indian market. Even after price cuts. So, unless M&M want only niche volumes, this price positioning is going to be suicidal.

If these are the prices Mahindra wanted, they should have launched the full sized Tivoli and competed against Creta. This cut down sub-4m version is too expensive.

Maruti and Tata will simply watch which features attract buyers the most and add them as top end models or options in the Brezza and Nexon ranges. There is large price point margin to do so because the xuv300 is so much more expensive.

Maruti anyway has the inhouse 1.5L diesel engine coming up that will surely go into Brezza in addition to Ciaz, Scross, and Ertiga. Though they may divert initial volumes to Ciaz and Ertiga. And the inhouse engine may also be cheaper at high volumes than buying the 1.3L from Fiat. I just hope Maruti improve the sound insulation on their cars. Road, Tyre, and outside noise make longer trips much more tiring.

Mahindra has officially mentioned that It will be written XUV500 but would be read as ex-you-vee-five-double-ooh.

Re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Who decides on the exact feature list? I am not sure if it has been discussed previously but I have been wondering about the usefulness of those heated ORVMs in a country like ours. Out of all companies, M&M always stood apart in the sense that Anand Mahindra himself appears to take interest in every detail, every launch and comes off as someone who is in sync with the pulse of the market. How does a feature like this make the cut then? Or is it part of some deal that Mahindra has with Ssangyong where they did not have to pay a premium for this? Otherwise either they could have cut cost and potential equipment failure later during the ownership period or could have substituted some other useful segment first feature. For instance along with the Auto-dimming IRVM, they could have provided Auto-dimming ORVMs too. Barring a handful of places, where anyways a small number of cars would sell, heated ORVMs would be useless. And I am sure when one requires a change due to some careless biker ramming yours on the road, it would cost a bomb because of this.

Rear AC vents and rear charging socket would've been more practical and welcome features than this. Or they could've gone with cooled seats if chasing after segment firsts!

Heated mirrors are very useful during early morning drives or in monsoons as they do not fog up. It is a convenience feature and should be useful in majority of the places in the country. It is like the rear defogger.

With Zero depreciation insurance policies cost is not a major issue. Yes there is the issue of loss in NCB but it is cheaper than even paying for folding OVRM or powered adjustment OVRM accidents. One more feature here will not really add costs to the car owner. My guess is Heating element may not be too expensive

Americans pronounce zero as "oh" in certain contexts, so it is fair to write it is 500 and pronounce it as 5OO.

So there is nothing wrong with the title of this thread. You can pronounce it as you like. I personally say XUV five hundred, and hasn't come across anybody who says five oh oh.

Wish companies put a bit more thought into what they should name their cars.

Had a brief look at XUV300 at the Bangalore airport. It looks very good for a sub 4 meter compact SUV. Side profile is odd due to chop job at the rear and front. Another 200 mm length with proper boot and bumpers would have completed the looks, and justified the price tag. At 15 Lakhs this is over priced.

Checked out xuv 300 at a dealer today.

One thing the SA told me is worth mentioning here. The 180 mm ground clearance is after loading.

So i guess the unladen ground clearance must be 200 mm or so. More or less in line with competition.

As per ARAI rules all manufacturers quote ground clearance based on laden weight. It's not just the 300.

They should have tried to position this against Creta without chopping it. If they had held on to the current announced prices for such a car, it would have done good.
Not sure if they are doing that too.
