Rumour: GM to give Cruze cosmetic updates, more features

It is unlikely that Chevrolet will bring the new Cruze sedan to India before 2017. Therefore, in an attempt to make the slow-selling current model more appealing, it is rumoured that Chevrolet will launch a refreshed version of the car in 2016.

According to a media report, the Cruze is expected to get cosmetic changes such as a larger front grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern, a restyled front bumper and a reworked rear end. The car is expected to be equipped with LED day-time running lights and projector fog lamps.

Coming to the interiors, the car is likely to get the MyLink infotainment system from the Trailblazer SUV that was launched in October 2015. The system features voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity and hands-free telephony. The updated Cruze will also be equipped with a reverse parking camera.

The Cruze is not likely to get any mechanical changes. It will be powered by the same 1,998cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine as the current model. It is also likely to retain the 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions of the current car.

Re: Rumour: GM to give Cruze cosmetic updates, more features

This will not cut much ice!!

There are better options available in the slow moving D Segment and though the Cruze was the original "trail blazer" for GM and put the D segment on fire during its launch, it has lost the plot now.

The potent 2.0 lts engine is a highway scorcher but the car is now not even on a potential D segment shoppers wish list.

This will only get worser with the 2017 new Cruze showcased in US.
The car seems to have lost all its masculinity in the upcoming variant.

Not great times ahead for a once "lethal" highway "Cruze"

Waste of time and money IMHO.
They should have done this long back (at least 3 years back) and they have just let this brand die. Who in the right mind will buy a cruze now ?
Also its about time they brought in the new 2016 Cruze. Its such a pity that they are taking so long to do so. Having said that, i feel Chevrolets days are over in India. Loads of dealers have let go of the dealerships and the company seems to have no concrete plan in mind. The SAIL project was a real heartbreak for them !

Cruze has past its prime time. There was a time when this Diesel Rocket had a name and fame in entry D segment. I don't see much foot fall in GM showrooms now a days. Heard that lot of discounts going on for old stocks lying around. I don't see any hint of success waiting for this project.

Trying to dump all the leftover kits in India. The truth is, GM India does not have any cars coming in 2016 and the entire current lineup is outdated or irrelevant.

The next gen Cruze has been on sale in other markets for quite some time now. By the time GM will get it to India, it will be a dated product in other markets.

Economic times has posted a slideshow of the facelifted Cruze, not sure if it is the one for India as it is a LHD model.

While the exteriors are dated but still look good, what GM really should have done is change the dashboard layout as it looks much more outdated.

Re: Rumour: GM to give Cruze cosmetic updates, more features

Gosh, the Cruze is old - we'd tested it back in 2009!

Old sedans no longer sell even in the C2 segment. Absolutely no chance in the more premium D1 segment.

I think GM India hasn't launched the next-gen Cruze as it's still not got a diesel engine (internationally). Expected to happen in the next 12 months. Guess Chevrolet is waiting as they don't think a petrol-only launch makes sense.

Re: Rumour: GM to give Cruze cosmetic updates, more features

That was a quickly done review by Autoportal, and quite crisp as well!

I like the new front end of the updated Cruze with the welcome LED DRLs. The powerful diesel engine is the Cruze's USP, along with its American muscle car inspired looks. Sadly, the car is no longer fresh, and needs to be replaced by the next generation model ASAP.

On the topic of the next generation Cruze, GM must also explore new niches. And by that, I mean the newly unveiled international Cruze hatchback. This Golf-sized hatch should be launched in a single, fully-loaded trim level with 1.4 turbo-petrol & 1.6 VCDi engine options with both manual & automatic transmissions, and priced a bit above the top-end C2 segment sedans.

They were the original pioneers in this segment with the large Optra SRV hatchback, which was way ahead of its time. Just because they failed then doesn't mean they shouldn't try it now. Who knows, the new Cruze may just open the floodgates for the European family hatch segment in India. Come on, Chevy, you've got nothing to lose!

Re: Rumour: GM to give Cruze cosmetic updates, more features

Am wondering if there are that many showrooms left open to sell it! The one in Kharadi, Pune (Singh Chevrolet) closed down and i've read in the papers that lot of them are winding up given the dismal sales and little hope of revival.
