re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

This looks absolutely horrendous. More like a cross between the Sumo Grande and the under development Tata Nexon. Can't believe this coming from the makers of the Creta.

This looks nice. Just the way an SUV should be. Upright, squat and with straight lines. Hope that a production version true to the concept sees the light of the day.

re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

Designed at Hyundai's Namyang design centre, the Carlino compact / sub-4 metre SUV concept was presented at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The concept previews a production car that will enter the same segment as the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and of course, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Like the Brezza, it looks like Hyundai's sub-4 metre SUV will be a project led by the company's Indian R&D team.

From the front, it reminded somewhat of Sumo Grandè.

Will be interesting to see how the production version turns out.

re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

I really like the car and voted for it on the Auto Expo thread too.

On a side note what is happening, Hyundai is using Datsun type front grill and Maruti is using Hyundai type grill on facelifted S-Cross.

Our car market is witnessing more unveiling, launches and announcements than Big ticket Mobile phone launches this year.

Hyundai's Subcompact SUV To Launch In 2018!

The product plan, its lifecycle as well as its roll out strategy are now fully confirmed and frozen by Hyundai Motor India's parent in South Korea. Expect the new car to debut at the 2018 Auto Expo

It is expected to use the same design language as the new i30 that is breaking cover in Europe - and borrow styling cues from the soon to be launched Tucson. It will likely use a stretched Grand i10 platform. And also have parts in common with the i20/Creta - with which it may also share engines

Hyundai's baby SUV to rival Nissan Juke- 2017

Hyundai targets the Nissan Juke with new baby SUV. Begins road test in Europe.
The i20 SUV is likely to be introduced before the end of 2017. It will slot into the range beside Hyundai’s current small crossover, the ix20 mini-MPV,

The Crossover will be based on i20 and will use the engines of the currently unveiled i30!

Now senior sources have confirmed that the Tucson is likely to be joined in the line-up by a smaller model that will give Hyundai a proper rival for the big-selling Juke, Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008.
Quote:
The new car is likely to be based on the chassis of the existing i20, which is only two years into its life. It will probably get the latest engines from the new i30, though – a mix of turbocharged 1.0 three-cylinder and 1.4 four-cylinder petrol motors, and a 1.6 diesel offered in at least two states of tune

Re: Hyundai's baby SUV to rival Nissan Juke- 2017

Close to no chance of this making it to India, at least not in any 'I want one' avatars.

The only slot it could take in their Indian portfolio is where the i20 Active currently resides, but they wouldn't dare equip it as good as (forget better than) the Creta.

Re: Hyundai's baby SUV to rival Nissan Juke- 2017

Is this a replacement for i20 Active? Hyundai has / is developing 3 cars in this segment - i20 Active, i20 Crossover, and new mini-SUV displayed at Auto Expo.

Looking at positioning, unlikely that this will come to India. Mostly we will only see the new mini-SUV which will slot in between i20 Active and Creta.

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

I think this will have same underpinnings as the Creta, but with a different and more sportier bodyshell. Corrections welcome

I guess you're correct. This suspiciously looks like a different & funkier "top hat" on the Creta's platform.

Speaking of Creta & "top hat", there is another vehicle that fits such a description - the Creta's cousin, Kia KX3:

On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV-images-24.jpg

The Creta & KX3 are like the i20 & Rio or the Tucson & Sportage - they share the chassis, engines and many components, but the "top hats" & interiors are different:

Alternately, this test mule could be Hyundai's version of the Kia Niro hybrid vehicle. This is a bit unlikely though, since Hyundai already have the Ioniq hybrid.

I believe the Carlino is a different sub-4m SUV to take on the EcoSport & Vitara Brezza. It will be positioned just above the i20 Active (could even replace the i20 Active), but certainly below the Creta.

Quote:

Autocar's above speculation of the Carlino being built on a stretched Grand i10 platform should be taken with a bucketload of salt. There's almost no chance that a vehicle that would sit above the i20 Active (or replace it) is going to be built on a Grand i10 chassis, it doesn't make sense. Moreover, the Grand i10/Xcent chassis cannot accomodate the larger & heavier 1.4 CRDi dimensionally, and this engine is almost a sure offering on the Carlino!

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

Hyundai's upcoming CUV to get 118hp turbo petrol.

The all-new compact SUV from Hyundai will launch in 2018; to rival EcoSport and Vitara Brezza.

Quote:
the SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre engine capable of developing 118hp. The motor is already available on the international-spec i20 hatchback. The reason of using the turbo-petrol motor instead of the normally aspirated one is because Hyundai believes that the “strong mid-range torque of the turbo will be essential for the compact SUV.”

In addition to the petrol unit, the SUV will also get the option of the popular 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine that does duty in the Creta, the Verna and the i20.
