re: Why is Hyundai stubbornly not launching the Elite i20 Automatic? EDIT: Launched at 9.01 lakhs!

Even before an AT hyundai needs to put a better engine for the petrol i20.
The i10 sourced petrol engine is the biggest weakness of an, otherwise a very accomplished car.

Not sure how far it is true. Gaadiwaadi reports that the i20 Diesel will get an AT this year (Along with the Grand i10 and Xcent).

Considering that the Creta 1.6 Diesel gets the 6 speed AT. Should not be too much of a stretch to provide the same with the 1.4 in the i20.

They need to bring the 1.0 Turbo petrol soon before the Baleno boosterjet, seeing that they have already been tested by Autocar in UK, it should not be a tall task.

An i20 with a 1.6 crdi, 6 speed AT, 4 disc brakes, mildly beefed up suspension, tiny bit more kit may just be enough to the send the polo gt twins, abarth punto, figo packing home in terms of sales. They have got all the ingredients. Only if they just do it.

In terms of sales - Yes! But with an enthusiast's sign off? Definitely not with that lifeless steering! With a much better steering, the current 1.4L 90 bhp engine itself will be much nicer to drive.

Hyundai is mulling the introduction of an all-new 1.0-litre petrol engine in its i20 hatchback.

Maybe not the ultimate canyon carver, but no doubt it would make an epic highway cruiser and a daily driver. There is no reason for an enthusiast to hate the car. 126 bhp and 260nm torque in a small hatch is sure to leave a mark, dead steering or not. Besides it will be refined, efficient, effortless, loaded to the gills, all of which are great qualities to have in a car. I would have an i20 1.6 crdi as a daily and a punto abarth with wider rubber, short throw shifter, and a cracking exhaust as a weekend car. Both can equally be loved by the enthusiast. Its just different kinds of enthusiasm.

Rumors about a 1.4L petrol engine on Elite i20 AT. Speculations are that i20 may get a 6 speed gearbox from Elantra.

Looks like Hyundai has finally decided to launch a petrol automatic i20. Not much info on whether its going to be 4-speed or 6-speed, or timelines.

Hyundai Creta petrol automatic launch soon; Elite i20 automatic to follow shortly

4 speed gear box with all the modern technology available in their kitty only points to how disinterested they are with their product.

4-speed AT is worse than their current "can't be bothered" stance.

The competition is providing 6/7 speed dual-clutch boxes, and they want to shoehorn a previous-century invention into their 'premium' hatch?

Bring the 1.0 Turbo engine into the country first. Hyundai have had turbo petrol for ages now and with our country's obsession with small displacement motors, it must have been launched with the Creta or the i20 Active.

With that anaemic 1.2L NA engine, any number of gears are not going to give a satisfying ride.

If i20 comes with Automatic, then VW Polo TSI sales would increase dramatically as customers would invariably compare both of them and quickly find out that TSI is generations ahead in terms of tech and driving brilliance. Hyundai would not be able to digest that

That is a brilliant deduction indeed! - you mean, despite the bad press & poor sales of VW in general, following the global emissions scandal and, conversely, the brilliant press & public response that the Hyundai brand has been garnering lately.
