Don't you think it should have a better angle of attack for the off road use the Jeep is associated with?

Yup the front overhang is way too much and add to that the low profile tyres which goes to show that the car in this form is just a city roader!

Jeep Renegade refresh reviewed, gets a mediocre review,

power and performance has improved. This smaller, 1.3-litre 148bhp engine essentially replaces the 138bhp 1.4-litre, and also arrives with a healthy 270Nm of torque. Day to day, this engine will pack more than enough punch for almost all Renegade buyers, with a sub-ten second dash to 62mph to boot.

the drivability of the 1.3-litre, equipped as standard with a dual-clutch automatic, isn’t quite as sweet and responsive as you’d hope. The power is there, but on these very early cars it doesn’t come out silky smooth all the time, with a tendency to lurch and lag due to the slack transmission. It can also sometimes hold boost for a split second off throttle.

Another Review of Jeep Renegade - not impressive enough as its competitors.

On paper, opting for Jeep’s new 1.0 petrol engine makes a lot of sense

However, it doesn’t take long behind the wheel to realise that this engine, despite being turbocharged, just doesn’t have enough to shove the Renegade along with any kind of conviction. The wave of torque that should arrive at 1750rpm never really makes itself known, and even if you decide to rev the engine towards its redline, you never feel like you’re making quick progress.

But don’t go thinking that the new 1.3 is faultless. Oh no. Despite offering up quite a bit more punch than the 1.0-litre, it’s let down by a jerky and surprisingly dim-witted dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Around town, the six-speed unit has a tendency to hesitate when trying to find the correct ratio, and then when you finally get moving and want to modulate the throttle, the engine often holds onto boost for a fraction longer than you’d like, resulting in unintended acceleration.

The end result is a car that's very difficult to drive smoothly, which is a shame because there’s nothing wrong with its objective straight-line performance

I have seen couple of reports that FCA is interested in bringing sub 4 Meter SUV . Does this means they are not going to launch Renegade in India?

Renegade would be below the Compass, and below the Renegade would be the A-Segment SUV.

Renegade will not fit into the sub 4m SUV segment as the international version measures just above 4m (about 20 cms more).

Wondering how Jeep will place Renegade in India (if they want to)? Will they make design tweaks to make it under 4m?

There are 2 cars from Jeep - both will be of a new design.

Eyeing mass market
Jeep is looking at the volume segment and planning to launch two more SUVs — a sub-4-metre one and a three-row SUV

The planned subfour-metre SUV will take on market leader Maruti Vitara Brezza as well as Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. It will be the smallest Jeep ever launched. The vehicle will also consolidate India's position as an export hub as there is enormous potential for this vehicle in global markets from Brazil to Europe.

The second model is a three-row mid-size SUV that will sit above the Compass and may directly take on Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

The fact is that the Renegade and the Compass are very closely priced in the markets they exist, so much so that the Renegade has supposedly seen a slight drop in sales post the launch of the Compass. So for India, I do not think it makes sense to have both, especially when you consider that the Compass starts quite low, near about 19 Lakhs on Road. So Jeep might abandon the Renegade for India and concentrate on one segment below and one segment above. Which means a Brezza Rival and a Fortuner Rival, which does make financial sense.

The Renegade is a full 23 centimeters beyond the 4 meter mark, i.e. 232 millimeters / under 10 inches.

Shaving 23 cm / 10 inches off the bumpers / bodywork will require quite a lot of work, and it's very unlikely that Jeep would do that.

In my opinion, this is how the line-up will be placed:

1) Compass: 20+ (23-28) lakh on the road.
2) Renegade: 15-20 lakh on the road.
3) Sub-4m Jeep: 10-15 lakh on the road.

The much expected Renegade, that is as big as the Hyundai Creata, may not come to India after all given the slew of regulatory changes that India is is set to adopt over the next two years in areas of safety and emission.

Media as confused as ever! As far as I know, Renegade not coming to India has nothing to do with regulatory changes nor safety and nor emissions.

It looks like the Renegade might have ended up too close to the Compass and hence FCA May have thought its better to focus on a sub 4m SUV volumes and also another one to target the Toyota Fortuner.
Or, it might be that the Renegade was not going to be built in India for other markets, like the Compass, so that might have led to some localisation issues.

Either way FCA not bringing in the Renegade is a disappointment. For sure it could have worked well in a 15-20 lakh segment.
