Jeep Renegade spied testing in India

Jeep's baby SUV - the Renegade, has been caught testing in India. While Jeep is expected to begin its Indian expedition with the Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee SRT and Grand Cherokee, the Renegade would make the Jeep brand accessible to mid-size premium SUV buyers.

It isn't clear if the test mules seen here are being tested for the Indian market or for global benchmarking. If Jeep isn't launching the Renegade here, the camouflaged cars could be testing powertrains for the upcoming Rs. 20-25 lakh Jeep SUV that it is expected to make its Indian debut in 2017.

In the UK, the Renegade is available with engine options like the 1.4L MultiAir II petrol (138 BHP / 230 Nm), 1.6L E-TORQ petrol (109 BHP / 152 Nm), 1.6L Multijet II diesel (118 BHP / 320 Nm) and a 2.0L Multijet II diesel (138/168 BHP / 350 Nm). The Renegade can be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and is available with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Re: Jeep Renegade spied testing in India

This is the ad song for Jeep renegade which I heard many times in the US in 2015.

The best part was driving a Jeep Cherokee Latitude all across from the South (Atlanta) right through the Great Smoky Mountains and Kentucky and so on until Chicago and playing this song at regular intervals.

Its a great song for sure.

And the ad is also attached here...

I wonder what the Renegade will end up being priced at in India and when it will get launched...

If it is what I believe to be a fair price, then this vehicle is the one Im going to consider as my next upgrade. Provided of course it has all the bells and whistles and toys as my Yeti has...

Caught testing at Mumbai:

The spied Jeep Renegade was completely camouflaged with only the tail lamps, rear windscreen and windows visible. But the overall stance of the SUV and the tail lamps disclose that India will get the original Renegade without any modifications. The compact SUV was accompanied by a Wrangler Unlimited without camouflage.

Boxy looks all around but those unusual tail lights have grabbed my attention.

Also notice the height of the SUV in comparison to the people standing on the left. Compact, indeed!

Re: Jeep Renegade spied testing in India

Jeep I guess must be testing the Renegade for India only. It will be interesting to see which engine options Jeep introduce for Renegade. Indian market is now maturing and can easily accept such quality product at on-road price of 20-25 lakhs (Bang in Skoda yeti's territory). Exciting times ahead..!

20-25lakhs would be too high for the Renegade. Even if it is, did you see how many Yeti's Skoda sold in the last few months? It's going to be the same for Jeep.

The upcoming Jeep is expected to be around 15Lacs, if the Renegade does gets launched, should sit slightly lower. However, it can go up till 18-20Lacs, for the Trailhawk version.

Re: Jeep Renegade spied testing in India

The Jeep Cherokee Latitude in the top spec with 4WD and many airbags and of course "Sirius" Radio, would be the perfect vehicle for me to upgrade to, from my Yeti.
Provided of course, it comes to India, is priced well and has the same or more bells and whistles as my Yeti has.

All things being equal between the two, the tipping point for me, will come based on the final price on the road in Bangalore and the availability of AT transmission along with a nice Turbo charged Diesel or Super charged Petrol engine of a decent size/ power aspect!
The Cherokee Latitude is the perfect size too.

I am very interested in the Jeep Renegade as a possible upgrade, but only provided the above stated requirements are met.
I m happy to go for this size though it is smaller than the Cherokee Latitude, but yet, it is slightly bigger than the Yeti per se.

I would guess the Renegade being tested here in India is about the same size as the Duster so that should be absolutely perfect for these road and traffic conditions.

I only want that they should offer all the bells and whistles that are already available to me in my Yeti, and perhaps a little bit more and specifically with the added option of AT.

If yes, then Im good to go!

Re: Jeep Renegade spied testing in India

So I spotted two Renegades today at Ghaziabad alongside the Grand Cherokee. The GC was MH registered vehicles and the Renegades were completely camouflaged as in the above pictures. So sorry that I couldn't click any pictures as I was getting late for an exam and they were on the other side of the road. The were just stamding over there while the GC was undergoing some tyre checks at a road side tyre repair shop. This happened at NH-58.

Re: Jeep Renegade spied testing in India

In UK its is coming with 1.6 MJD II and a 2.0 lit MJD as well. It has got a 6 speed MT and 9 speed AT. The car is priced from £17K to £22K in UK which roughly transforms as 16lakh - 22lakh in INR price bracket. This feels definitely costlier.

By removing certain features (Sunroof, heated seats etc.,) if they can bring down the price and place it bang in top end XUV / Creta territory then it will confuse a lot of buyers

Post removing the features it may land at 20L bracket. Jeep wrangler may have buyers but i doubt about this Renegade. The engine is not the frugal engine, the ride is harsh and the seating capacity is strictly 4 adults and 1 kid.

I am not really sure if this car will be a seller for various reasons. Purely from price point we are looking at a starting price of around 18L minimum on road. With bells and whistles this will end up being a 25L car and that too not a comfortable one.

Enthusiast may find the driving pleasurable but not for those who want a SUV. This is based on time spent in this car dealership and hearing news about how the FOB key fails quite often

I agree to that.!
It is strictly a 4 seater that too not with comfortable leg room. The situations are quite grim and they certainly need some miracles to see good numbers.

These test mules were caught testing on NH8 (Near Manesar) by my friend Vivek.

Apologies for the poor quality of the pics, but here are some more shots of the Wrangler. Saw it prowling around in Gurgaon today. Proportions were similar to the TUV300, squared off, with bigger presence than the Yeti. The car seemed to have enough power on the tap as it overtook us in the Ecosport quite effortlessly. But still 20 lakhs might be a bit too much.
