Big shoutout to Aditya for shooting these pictures & his coverage of the Auto Expo. Thanks for sharing, man!

India's second largest car maker's theme for 2016 Auto Expo is 'Experience Hyundai'.

Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Tucson, scheduled to be launched later this year:

To the casual eye, it looks like a baby Santa Fe. It will be positioned between the Creta and Santa Fe:

The Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 makes this is one handsome car:

Black window tints prohibited Aditya from taking a peek at the interiors:

Very familiar rear end as well. Looks unmistakably like the modern Hyundai family cross-overs:

Projector headlamp with LED eye lids:

19" alloy wheels look swell:

No request sensor here? Interesting:

The tail lamp too appears to have an LEDs.

Looks identical to the Elite i20's when in action:

Black cladding will stand out on lighter body colours:

Integrated rear spoiler and shark fin antenna:

Muffler is visible from the outside:

Not an unfamiliar badge in the Indian market. Hyundai will hope that its second innings will fare better than its first:

The next big showcase by Hyundai is its high performance sub-brand N:

The Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept has been developed for participation in the world-renowned PlayStation® Gran Turismo racing game series:

This car is powered by a dual fuel cell + a super capacitor. It churns out 871 BHP (fuel cell: 671 BHP + super capacitor: 201 BHP). It has a kerb weight of 972 kg:

0-100 kph timings are 2.8 seconds and it has a top speed of 340 km/h:

There's an independent in-wheel motor driving each wheel:

Aerodynamics and technology aside, its rear looks ugly:

Next, Hyundai also showcased its sub 4-metre compact SUV, designed at Hyundai's Namyang Design Centre:

This one is christened Carlino:
Hyundai @ Auto Expo 2016-41a.jpg

It carries a very squarish design; looks aggressive. This is still a concept. Let's see how the final product turns out:

Looks muscular. Those wheels and tyres make it look butch:

Curves...what?

The Sonata Plug-in Hybrid is on display too.

The question remains that after the failure of the petrol-only Sonata, will Hyundai bring this to India?

Notice the tank is on the front left fender:

Instead of petrol, this one tanks itself with a healthy dose of electricity:

Panoramic sunroof too:

Interiors are a familiar territory. Luxurious, no doubt:

Thread moved out from the Assembly Line. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely coverage of Hyundai stall at Auto Expo. Thumbs up for this. Apart from the cars which are currently on sale in India, only few of the other cars make sense for the Indian market.

Tucson is one, and it has been confirmed that it'll be launched in India in this year. But what a evolution Tucson has gone through. clap:

I have attached the last generation Tucson which was on sale in India (Source: http://www.aliexpress.com/price/old-tucson_price.html), and just look at the current one. These two are miles apart, and this shows the growth of Hyundai as a car manufacturer.

Hyundai i30 is a good hatchback, but it doesn't makes sense for the Indian market currently. But things are changing and maybe in the coming couple of years, it can be that Hyundai i30 priced at around 9-12 lakhs makes perfect sense, and can create a new super premium hatchback segment.

Genesis is also good but it won't be able to hold a candle against the brand name offered by the 3 Germans in our market.

The Sonata BlueDrive, fuel cell and the performance N, only reinforces that Hyundai is certainly growing as a company is all the aspects, be in manufacturing, designing, performance, among others.

Thanks.

Hyundai should have displayed its next generation Elantra at the auto expo! That along with the smashing looking Tucson would have allowed Hyundai to put up an awesome show. The Tucson if priced around 18 lakhs would allow Hyundai to build a completely new SUV segment but it has to be aggressively priced unlike the current Santa Fe. In the 2014 Auto Expo , the Veloster was a great car on display and I was mighty impressed with its design. However I'm not sure where Hyundai plans to position the i30 , if at all they are planning to launch it. I'm also keen on seeing the Genesis up close and personal although it does not seem to have a very fancy styling.

Thanks for sharing this nice pictorial report! :thumbs up

Much like the Creta, the Carlino sub-4m compact SUV should be quite a fabulous looker if they manage to "productionise" the "concept-ish" bits and pieces, but keep the final version true to the lines of this concept car.

My take is that the Carlino looks like Hyundai's raised, but shortened (i.e. sub-4m) version of its popular cousin, the Kia Soul:

Hyundai @ Auto Expo 2016-image.jpg

Ideally, they should aim to put the car on sale by the end of this calendar year, or during the first quarter of the next one. Powertrain options should only be the 1.0 Kappa T-GDi 6MT & 1.4 U2 CRDi 6MT, along with a choice of AT with either or both engines.

The i30 can herald the entry of the European family hatch segment in India. Chevrolet's Optra SRV tried and didn't succeed, but that was a long time ago, and the market has changed a lot since then. However, if they want to try their luck with the i30 in India, then they would do well to wait till the next generation i30 makes its entry (it has already been spied during testing in Europe).

Genesis... what's with the fake-Bentley-looking badge? Why couldn't they have their own unique-looking logo and be proud of it? And crash-testing: yes, very nice, now, Hyundai, show us the same with an i10/i20/etc!

Which reminds me: and detail changes on the i10? I might be about to buy one, but I'm not in a hurry if some small improvement is on the way.

The present premium hatchbacks hit 10 lakh plus, it would be impossible to price the i30 at those levels, considering the Elantra ( The booted i30) sells for more than 20 lakhs!
