Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016

Big shoutout to Aditya for shooting these pictures & his coverage of the Auto Expo. Thanks for sharing, man

Jeep has been mulling its entry into the Indian market for years now but for some reason or another, its launch has inevitably been delayed. The company has begun taking baby steps into the Indian market, starting with its official website. At this Auto Expo, it has displayed its entire India-specific line.

Notice the iconic 7 vertical slats in the background:

The missing 'I' and 'A' isn't intentional:

Re: Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016

First up, it is the Grand Cherokee SRT - the most powerful and advanced Jeep ever built:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-5.jpg

This SUV measures 4.8m in length, 1.9m in width and 1.8m in height. It has got a 2.9m wheelbase and a 210mm ground clearance:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-6.jpg

6.4L HEMI V8 petrol engine. Pure American muscle:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-8.jpg
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-8a.jpg
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-9.jpg

Big ORVMs:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-11.jpg

Request sensor for passenger door too:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-12.jpg

20" 5-spoke alloy wheels. Don't miss the Brembo high-performance brakes:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-14.jpg

SRT badges to warn you that this means business. It stands for Street Racing & Technology:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-10.jpg

Twin exhausts:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-13.jpg

Interiors carry a minimal design theme:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-15.jpg

Notice the instrument cluster and the steering-mounted paddle shifters:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-16a.jpg

Carbon fibre running across the dashboard:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-16b.jpg

The design of the interiors looked good. Still, it lacked the quality of its European rivals:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-20.jpg

Harman / Kardon sound system:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-20a.jpg

These seats looked really nice. Offered good support too:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-17.jpg

A speaker + tweeter on the rear doors as well:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-21.jpg

Jeep door scuff plates:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-21a.jpg

3 adults here shouldn't be a problem:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-18.jpg

Rear air-con vents. The rear seats had a heating option too:

Re: Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016

The Grand Cherokee diesel is most likely going to be the preferred choice among the Indian buyers:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-35.jpg

This one is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shifters:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-36.jpg
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-37.jpg

DRLs surrounding the headlamps on 3 sides:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-39a.jpg

Exposed tow hook:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-40.jpg

Chrome fog lamp surrounds. Notice the front parking sensors too:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-42.jpg

Muscular bonnet. The bonnet vents in the SRT are a clear give away of the fire power underneath. This one doesn't have them:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-38.jpg

20" wheels:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-43.jpg

Chrome door handles appear to be fingerprint magnets:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-41a.jpg

Nothing too different than the SRT variant:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-42a.jpg

If it's a Jeep, it got to have 4x4:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-44.jpg

Notice the chrome on the rear bumper:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-45.jpg
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-45a.jpg

Muffler tips appear a lot more subtle than the SRT:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-45b.jpg

An all-black interior theme:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-47.jpg
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-49.jpg

Steering wheel felt nice to hold. Notice the dummy buttons on the right side of the steering wheel!
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-47a.jpg

Stubby gear lever. Notice the Quadra-Trac II 4WD system buttons:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-48.jpg

Foot operated parking brake:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-50.jpg

XL-size switchgear:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-50c.jpg

Audio / video and HDMI ports on the passenger seat:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-51.jpg

Screens for the rear passengers:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-52.jpg

These are foldable; can be closed when not in use:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-53.jpg

The wood panels looked a bit dated:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-54.jpg

Nice attention to detail here:
Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016-55.jpg

There's a retractable parcel shelf. Do note that this is a 5-seater only:

This is one SUV built as tough as nails:

You need to use the key to unlock the bonnet...

...and then unlatch it:

Notice how the bumper protrudes out. I'm not even taking about the panel gaps here:

Goodyear Wrangler tyres on the Wrangler:

Manual air-con in this SUV. Available with an automatic transmission only. Notice the ORVM controller joystick here:

This passenger handle bar reminds the occupants of the brand's heritage:

Notice the lower strap holding the door:

Unconventional door pad. Notice the lock / unlock switch:

Rear occupants get 2 cup holders:

There's a sub-woofer in the boot...

...its enclosure resembles the trademark Jeep grill:

The tail gate needs to be swung open to open the glass hatch:

Re: Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016

The Grand Cherokee is beautiful. I can't remember the last time I drooled like this. :-)

It seems harder & harder, by every passing SUV launch, how long the current Fortuner maintaining it's top position & who will take over it's throne.

Re: Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016

Thanks a lot for the coverage on Jeep.

Given that I own an Overland (details here:http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...-overland.html), I can tell you that the Summit is the most premium version that the Grand Cherokee comes in.
With that in mind, I can tell you that the dummy buttons should not be dummy buttons. They are the Active Collision Control buttons i.e. reduce or increase speed as per the car in the front, once activated. The left button engages it, the middle reduces the distance between the car in front and right increases it to a max of 3 car lengths. All the details are visible in the IC.

Steering wheel felt nice to hold. Notice the dummy buttons on the right side of the steering wheel!
Attachment 1469301

You probably see 2 dummy button there too, to the right of the rotary dial.
These are used to adjust the suspension height i.e. Quadra Lift on the Limited (optional), Overland and Summit. There are 4 stages:
a. reduced height for entry/exit from the vehicle
b. normal ride height, to which the car will automatically raise once over 15kmph
c. Off-road 1
d. Off road 2 which has the maximum increase.

Stubby gear lever. Notice the Quadra-Trac II 4WD system buttons:
Attachment 1469303

Another interesting safety feature is the auto-unfolding ORVMs. If they are folded, then on speeds above 15kmph, they will automatically unfold.

Thank you for the coverage on the Jeep. Any idea when The Grand Cherokee diesel would be introduced in India and the likely price range?

This is a 2.8L Inline (maybe 4) Diesel engine. Zoom in and you could read the 2.8l CRD lettering on the top.

A 3.6l engine in the US spec is shown below.

Re: Jeep @ Auto Expo 2016

The V6/V8 engines and the gear lever. Three things that I absolutely love in the Chrysler/Jeep line up.

Had an opportunity to drive the Grand Cherokee a couple of years back and it was an awesome experience. It looks intimidating even in the US Roads. One can only wonder what things it would do here.

Hope they get the price right and have dedicated service centers for these mean machines.
