Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

GTI launch live with Autocar ()

Cost is 25.65L ex showroom

That will be over 30L on road in Bangalore. VW has lost it completely

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Why won't someone buy a Superb TSI manual or the Octavia TSI DSG over this? Yes, this car will be more chuckable especially along the turns, but from a practical point of view, it still does not make sense. This car will only suit people with multiple cars at their disposal.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

₹ 25.65L sure is a lot of money for a Polo, but then this is a special Polo. By the look of things its not heavily loaded with features like sunroof and adaptive suspension. For the enthusiast, the Polo GTI is a mouth watering prospect, the DSG notwithstanding. Sadly the price takes all the joy away. Given the limited numbers and CBU origins I don't think we can complain though. The first batch of 99 cars will sell quickly for sure.

16" wheels is a good idea for India. But I do hope the ride height is not jacked up as much as the regular India Polos. VW website has an "express interest" link. Have done so, lets see what happens. I would have loved a bare bones made in India Polo GTI with manual transmission and essentials like stiffer suspension and bigger brakes. For the rest of the stuff, the regular Polo will do fine.

25 lakhs for a VW Polo. Hahaha
All the best to Volkswagen India on getting these off the shelves.

No doubt the GTI DNA is legendary but at this price a Golf GTI would definitely offer better value to the consumer than a Polo GTI.

Personally at 25-30L, I would be much happier with a used Mini Cooper S. Some great examples on sale all over the country.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

This seems like a generation newer (Mk6; 6C) than the other Polo trims sold here (Mk5; 6R). This was marketed as a facelift though, despite having a platform change from PQ25 to MQB.

Some features seem to be missing in the version we have though, looking at the buttons above the ICE unit.

Price is quite high in the UK too, something like £19,000 before taxes.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

The current import price of GTI is around 19.5L as per zauba , which translates to 23k+ pounds. With such high import price for a CBU, I dont think VW could have priced it below 25L. Ideally at 19k pounds (UK before tax price), the import price should have come at 15L which would have allowed them to price around 20-21L.

Guess what, all of a sudden polo GT TSI is looking super value for money. Well done VW. The idea looks pretty clear, they do not want to make this anywhere near to affordable, not even a used.

I am sure it would drive amazing and give a sublime experience, but i would certainly consider use 530ds if i have the budget. So much value for the buck. I know its a stupid comparison, but 2.5 million is a lot of money.

From my experience, Polo TSi does not have the highway manners required for a long high speed intercity journey. I alter between my Polo and Laura for my outstation trips and Polo is nowhere near the Laura. Even slightest undulations (like wavy tar patch, makeshift pothole patches, etc) throw the Polo off balance. Even on reasonably well surfaced road it's not as planted as it should, too much of vertical movement and jolts every now and then. On the same roads, Laura is rock steady! Any surface irregularities on a turn completely shake the Polo and I have to be extra cautious with steering to keep it pointed in the intended direction along the curves. On the same curves, laura is much much more composed and relaxed. I think track width, wheelbase, weight - all matter. And of course Laura brakes are awesome, Polo brakes are pathetic.

Is the GTI better built than regular Polo? Does it really have the high speed dynamics required? Else, it will be a strict no no. Superb TSi will be heavenly, no doubt.

So, for me, This car is only for fantasising and not for owning.
This was my post 9 months ago. And its so close to reality.
Thanks VW for proving me right!

Selling only 99 of this is a nice move but I would be interested to see how many days it will take them to sell these "Select 99"!

26 Ex-showroom will be 33OTR in Bangalore. For this price, we can get either:
1. 3 Polo GTs and some additional money to spend on Modifications
OR
2. 3 Abarth Puntos (with some discounts)

On a Lighter note, looks like Ambani or Janardhan Reddy's family member must have joined ndtv auto. Take a look at the webpage and the highlighted sentence.
Affordable it seems!!!

Specs and Brochure from the VW Website. Interestingly VW are calling it Volkswagen GTI? No Polo? Insanely expensive. But I am pretty sure there are 99 people in India who can easily afford to throw 30L at this car. Should sell out pretty soon IMO.

Thank you volkman10 for sharing the news.

The numbers are mind-bogling to say the least. But what is even more mind-numbing is the Price.

Ironically, not only does the 'Production' seem to be limited to 99, but the buyers could be further limited to 9 for first few months !!

This sure is a premium offering and probably has some of the most advanced technologies of any hatch in India. Furthermore, not many can claim a 0-100 dash in ~7s in India today.

However, at 3976mm, it is shorter than the regular Polo by over 20mm (eek) !!

So virtually, this is either a Polo with seat in the Boot or vice-versa.

I think the GT twins took the market by storm and probably the customers can only relate to these cars when anybody refers to 'Performance Polo'.

So if VW had called this as a Polo GTI at >30 Lakhs, 'I't would have made no sense !!

I won't be surprised.

Customers are willing to shell out 42+ lacs for the Accord Hybrid (the first lot of 30 fully-imported units is already sold out), and that's the kind of money with which you could go 2 segments above the overpriced Honda.

The market has evolved, and there are buyers who are willing to buy a product which is niche and exclusive. What better than a fully-imported CBU with a stonker of an engine. A true hot hatch indeed!

Pretty sure we will be seeing some of these zooming past our sights on Indian expressways very soon. Yamuna, Mumbai-Pune, Ahmedabad - here they come!
