Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Mods - The title of this thread should be changed to Volkswagen GTI with the 'Polo' word removed. There's no place on the VW India website where the name 'Polo' is used in the context of the GTI.

However I wont be surprised if the 99 units fly off the shelf just like the over priced Accords.
I did the same extract thing but that's the advertised drive away price. It will be easy to get a discount of atleast $4k's given its a VW and is not a fast moving model. Usually 10% discount on the advertised driveaway price is not too difficult.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

My neighbour was hell bent on picking up one, to replace their GT TDi as a fun city car. They already have multiple Europeans (A180, 520D, 3GT, X3, S60, A6) in the garage - so I was pretty sure they would go ahead with the decision, but he seems to have backed out hearing the price.

Well, price is a wrong term may be. The value proposition of replacing a Polo with a Polo for an additional 33L is more like it!

The family qualifies as a typical young generation of enthusiasts and an older generation with cash to support them. If such a family doesn't pick up the GTI at 30L prices, I dont know who is the target audience.

The pricing gets crazy when we move to cars above 20L or imports. Some folks blame the Government Tax structure for the high pricing but my opinion is that its the greediness (or dumbness) of car makers plus the tax structure.
I feel the pricing for most cars is not justified here, even the ones available for less than 20 lakhs.

Consider an example of VW Vento's pricing in Russia. For about 7,00,000 roubles (~7.25 lakh rupees), you get the Highline variant with 1.4 TSI engine that has 125 PS of power, 7-speed DSG, ESP, anti-theft alarm, bixenon headlamps with headlamp washers, rear disc brakes, heated seats and mirrors, speed dependent variable steering control, external boot release button, LED license plate lamps, apart from the standard features and equipment we have here.

I remember the listed price of Vento at launch in India. Ex showroom price: 9.34 lakhs. Listed cost of car: ~5.25 lakhs, with rest of the amount being taxes ~4.09 lakhs.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Came across a rant on FB of a heartbroken enthusiast who wanted the GTI Its soo true that if VW wanted it, it could have assembled the GTI in Pune and reduce the price significantly

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

I think the odds are stacked against the GTI, particularly because it looks so much like a Polo. People might buy a Mini or a 500 or even a Beetle because they look unlike any other car and can easily be recognized, which is what people expect when they spend so much money on a car.

Well done VW,

Suddenly Mini Cooper, Fiat500 and VW Beetle all looks worth the price and Abarth Punto, one hell of a VFM Product

Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

An info from Vw staff. Polo gti 25.60 ex show Delhi! Can't upload brochure from my phone.

Don't know how many takers at this price point. The Octavia Tsi makes more sense. Have to wait and watch.

I guess you are talking about the news item in this link.

http://www.zeebiz.com/automobile/new...sec-lead-story

Its all rumours and speculations IMO. It says pricing will be around 18-20 lakhs and they have already received 100 bookings even before launch. both of which are false statements. So I for one would not believe this news item at all!

If this news piece were to be believed, VW had sold out even before launch!

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

My friend just bought a BMW 320d Luxury line, 170HP, 2 year old, mint condition, 7000 km driven car at 29 Lakhs.

Now, VW wants 30+ for this hatch!!! Good luck VW!

My Post of 2nd August 2015:

"The GTI will be only a halo car.

Definition of halo car:

An automobile that is launched merely to draw attention to the brand.

So regardless of whatever we may write here to reduce the price, be prepared for a launch price of Rs.30 lakhs. Anything less and count ourselves lucky.

Selling this car in numbers will defeat the objective VW has in bringing the car to India."

If your prediction becomes true (looks like it will), I think Polo GT TSi will remain the most affordable warm hatch for most of the enthusiasts. I was really expecting VW will change the hot hatch scenario by pricing the GTi sensibly, but they just have a different plan, it seems

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Well, so much for that. I guess with a 30 lakh price tag, the GTI isn't going to be a normal person's performance dream.
Hopefully the first few lots will be lapped up by those who can afford it pretty quickly, and then VW can start thinking of a locally produced version.

Well, I'm not so sure whether this is well played or a hit-wicket

FYI, these are the Polo's modest sales (all variants, not just GTs) for the last 6 months:
1906, 2480, 2977, 1047, 1083, 1465

How does the introduction of GTI at an astronomical price, automatically imply that people are now going to switch to GT TSI in droves? VW is no Maruti or Hyundai - the mass market has different requirements, and the enthusiasts have other options anyway. If what you say comes true, then we should see a huge jump in the above numbers!
