Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Its good that Volkswagen has given its 100 percent here and has truly put its heart and soul into the Polo GTI.
IMO its better to introduce a car for true blue enthusiasts which is costly rather than producing a car which is the worst of both worlds i.e which is neither a performer and costs more than the Punto with less features.(Everyone of us knew that the car wouldn't be able to match the punto's price tag with that imported engine and DSG gearbox)
All Polo GTI owners will surely swear by their cars for the outright performance on offer although the pricing is high.
The only fly in the ointment-That unreliable DSG gearbox and no manual on offer.
I would rather have 10 customers that are a 100 percent satisfied with my car as a company instead of 50 people moaning about that the car does not have XYZ features and say that Volkswagen has cut costs.
IN short-customer satisfaction>Car volumes in my opinion.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Now, Motor Octane's sources claim that the Polo GTI's 1.8L petrol heart will produce an upgraded output of 220BHP of power, instead of the 189BHP which was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Quote:
As per one of our sources, Volkswagen is working on 1.8-litre petrol engine and is working on upgrading on its engines. The 1.8-litre is included in this and from what we hear, it will be 220bhp instead of the 197.

There is no such configuration of the Polo GTI available as of now Globally. This news is just speculative!

Gear knob looks like the one for DSG. I had read somewhere long back where VW confirmed there won't be manual GTI.

I am pretty sure those are 16 inchers. And the gear lever piture is too hazy and hard to tell . The Polo GTI's MT lever that I've seen on all reviews has a black top.

See below images and try to make out for yourself

EDIT : The large brake pedal makes me think its a DSG.

+1 to Santosh

Me also thinks that this probably is still a DSG variant and those look a but bigger (surely hotter) than a 15" rim would.

If these rims actually turn out to be the 15" ones, rest assured I am sourcing these for my GT, when made available.

Volkswagen's MK5 Polo GTI was launched with the DSG as standard.

But the later version MK6 Polo GTI, launched in 2015, the manual transmission was given as a variant as the market demanded and this is as reported by VW Marketing
It came standard with a six speed manual gearbox!

I meant VW had said it would get Polo GTI with DSG in India. I will quote the official press release from VW India website
Quote:
Volkswagen unveils India's hottest hatch – Polo GTI

Designed for true blue enthusiasts, well versed with the GTI philosophy Powered by a turbocharged 1.8 TSI engine, mated to a 7-speed DSG gear box that produces 141KW of raw power Effortlessly combines power & beauty with technical enhancements and distinctive design additions

New Delhi, February 4, 2016: Volkswagen, Europe's leading car manufacturer, today unveiled the Polo GTI at the 13th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo. The Polo GTI is truly India's hottest hatchback and one of the most powerful car in its segment equipped with a 1.8 TSI engine mated with a 7 –speed DSG gear box.

Under the hood of the Polo GTI is Volkswagen's celebrated and established TSI engine technology which combines direct gasoline injection with turbocharging and produces a blistering 141 KW (192 PS) of raw power. This combination results in unmatched power and fuel efficiency whilst also being kind to the environment.
Also, the gear knob looks like DSG one (Chrome inserts and shape). Anyways, it would be great if VW provides GTI with 6 speed manual gearbox in India .

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

The thing about that post which made me sit up is the estimated 15 Lakh Rs price tag. If that happens, I will definitely start rubbing my hands in glee. Well, after a few years anyway.

Re: Volkswagen Polo GTI @ Auto Expo 2016

Wouldn't it have made more sense for VW to introduce the Golf R at a slightly higher price than the Polo GTi? The 1.8 TSI engine in the Golf R is already used in a lot of VW group cars in India.

Given the Golf configuration the premium asked would make a lot of sense too.

One argument might be that none of the other Golf variants have been introduced in India so there might be arguments about tooling and all that stuff. But this can also come in through a CBU route as well right?

I feel that the three door GTi is too impractical to be anything more than a market study experiment more than anything else. And why don't we get manuals.

Drive on,
Shibu.

I agree with you on the dearth of Manuals but a 3 door will make a lot of sense. There are loads of young executives who would absolutely LOVE to own a sporty premium 3 door, that is small enough to park in the city and a blast out on the twisties during the weekend.

Plus this is great for a second car for a well settled enthusiast.

Not really loads, not at around 20L. Three doors will always remain a constraint, because the overwhelming majority of young executives still need or are pressured towards an all-rounder rather a highly specialised vehicle. The GT TSI is a good combination of performance, practicality, snob value and price.

Even if one were to look at the money-no-object end of the spectrum, practicality is still highly valued. Just in a different price band.

Looking at the headlight assembly in the pics, it does not look like the car has projector headlamps with DRLs. That is a shame for a car costing 15+ lakhs.
