Re: Next Gen BMW 7 Series Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

Was doing some search and stumbled upon this.

THIS is the puddle light on the next gen. 7 series!

*gulp*

BMW calls it the Welcome Light Carpet.

Quote:
The BMW Welcome Light Carpet is different. With this system, the lighting module is installed on the body sill to the vehicle underbody under the driver’s door. How then is it possible for the light to travel “around the corner” to the path leading to the door? “Our microoptics feature microlenses that aim the light directly at the desired surface,” explains the IOF’s Dr. Peter Schreiber, who oversees the project.

“We can alter the intensity of the light by altering the number of microprojectors used,” says Bräuer. “Regardless of whether we use 150 projectors, as with the BMW Welcome Light Carpet, or we use 3,000 of them, the thickness of the array still remains within a range that is measurable in millimeters.”

The BMW Welcome Light Carpet is now standard equipment on the new BMW 7 Series.

An inside look at the 7 series by the new top gear presenter.
Exceptional car, exceptional review......

If only they would just get rid of that quirky front end styling.

Re: Next Gen BMW 7 Series Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

That's a great car and 730d looks like great value for money when compared to the S-class. Previously Mercedes used to be ahead in introducing new technologies but now BMW with their new 7 has surpassed them.

The only minor problem with BMW is the front and I really wish they really stop doing these silly headlights that connect to the grill. Now just waiting for the new Ghost based on this 7.

Those lights really look brilliant in dark, sadly at the Expo the lights were washed out.

A couple of pics on how they look in real.

Re: Next Gen BMW 7 Series Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

The placement of these carpet lights on the underbody means that if one accidentally scrapes the underbody, not only will it mean scratches or dents to body but also damage to these lights.

The light is simply an LED projector and is well hidden in the underbody sill, but in our case the lights would soon get covered by dirt/slush.

Don't have the actual image of the LED, but below is the marked area where it is located. The carpet light can also be adjusted for Width and length.

2017 BMW Alpina B7 revealed ahead of Geneva Motor Show!

Next Gen BMW 7 Series Launched @ Auto Expo 2016-bbprpjf.jpg

New details on the powerful 2017 BMW Alpina B7 super saloon have been revealed this week, ahead of next month's Geneva motor show. The B7, based on the new 2016 BMW 7 Series, is driven by a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine. Some markets will also gain BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system, while others will go rear-wheel drive only. The B7's engine, which is the same as the one currently in the Alpina B5, has a peak power output of 447 kW and 800 Nm of torque (available from 3000 rpm). All of this will be transmitted through an eight-speed sports automatic transmission with Alpina Switch-Tronic paddles mounted on the back of the steering wheel, developed in collaboration with ZF.

The power comes as a result of several tweaks under the bonnet. Development in the twin-scroll turbo-chargers will bring the boost up to 1.37bar (20psi), while an upgraded intercooler will handle the excess heat and new high-performance pistons are fitted to accommodate the increase in power and forced induction.A new stainless steel exhaust is also on the job to up the aural delights, which can be regulated from within the cabin via the Driving Dynamic Control (DDC).The extra power from the bavarian barnstormer's V8 results in a claimed 0-100 km/h time of around 3.6 seconds. Slightly slower times can be expected on non-xDrive models, like those that are headed to the UK market.

The DDC system will also control the car’s chassis settings. The B7 will feature an adjustable air suspension system as well as adjustable dampers and Road Preview, that uses the onboard GPS to adjust the car’s suspension to suit upcoming corners. The B7's active air suspension, along with the ability to carve upcoming corners, will also adjust to suit the speed at which you are travelling. If you're moving at speeds above 225km/h, the car will hunker down by two centimetres, helping to lower the centre of gravity and aid stability. On the other hand, when travelling around town with plenty of speed bumps and potholes, the car can raise itself by 2cm to avoid any scrapes that might otherwise occur.

Alpina classic 20-inch wheels are fitted as standard, though 21-inch wheels are an option. Braking will be carried out by 394mm front and 368mm rear discs and four-piston calipers all round.A long list of interior standard equipment comes with the new B7, including Nappa leather, comfort seats, a leather wrapped instrument panel, full-colour HUD and a digital LED instrument panel.Changing between driving modes will also change the style of the HUD and instrument panel. Whilst in comfort mode, the panel will feature round instruments, a blue background and red needles. In sport mode, the design changes to blue and green drag indicators and focuses on primary information, such as the centrally positioned digital speed read out.

Re: Next Gen BMW 7 Series Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

Drove the new 7 for a short while. And boy am I impressed. It was the regular 730ld. The new 6 cylinder diesel really packs some punch, even in this large car. It really did feel quite quick. With air suspension on all 4 corners now it seemed to ride really well, much better than the previous gen. But I think in terms of ride the S is still the king. But what surprised me was that the 7 really felt like a much smaller car, very easy to maneuver around in traffic. The gadgets of course were all great, I don't know how useful things like gesture control will be, but it certainly is very very cool.

So all in all a great package, very comfortable, fun to drive. The M sport 730 is a brilliant choice made by all those who have booked it.

Re: Next Gen BMW 7 Series Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

Delhi dealers have started getting M kit models , I had a short test drive today & my initial impressions are not very positive for something I waited so eagerly. There is hardly any improvement in suspension , slow speed thuds are transmitted to cabin in same way and engine although completely new is almost similar to outgoing model, just the growl in sports mode gets better. I intentionally did not focussed on any gizmos and restricted by observations basic things. So is it worth spending extra moolah over S - or more importantly should one change existing 7 - I will probably not recommend. Given the number of cars in DPE ( without M ) sitting with dealers and almost Zero sales of CBU units , expect usual BMW discounts to happen much sooner.

The CBU DPE comes with 19 inch wheels, and would that be the reason? The CBU M Sport also gets 19 inch wheels, but once the local assembly cars are available, non M Sport DPE variants shall come with better 18 inch wheels.

But the demand for M Sport variant is rather surprising. Maybe that younger buyers are lining up fo the new 7, and they love the M Sport package.
