re: 2016 Suzuki S-Cross facelift leaked. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 8.49 lakh

I speculate it maybe similar to what we see here:
http://indianautosblog.com/2017/07/s...aunched-274097

Similar to the Suzuki Swift Hybrid. From the article
- It will not be SHVS based system
Note that this model should not be confused with the Swift Hybrid ML and Hybrid RS available since market launch, which features the mild-hybrid SHVS system.
- It will have a 10kW motor generator unit that can automatically shut off engine at low load conditions for a limited distance
This system on the Swift Hybrid features a engine paired with a 10 kW Motor Generator unit motor and a 5-speed AGS (AMT) gearbox. At low load conditions, the system can shut off the engine and can run in full electric mode for a very limited distance. Suzuki claims that the Swift Hybrid can average 32.0 km/L (JC08 cycle). It’s only available as a 2WD.
-
The motor generator unit should be able to further up low end torque and boost power marginally

I remember seeing the 'Swift Range Extender' hybrid at the 2012 or 2014 Delhi auto expo. It had a 3-cyl petrol engine supplemented at lower speeds by electric motor. I always wonder why has Maruti not introduced that tech for their mass market cars yet. It would be boon in start and go city traffic. I once read somewhere that it was to be given to some govt offices for trial but nothing substantial followed on that.

Coming to Scross, if it is true, it would be a real shot in the arm to revive this car. Would definitely widen it's appeal.

2017 Maruti S-Cross To Be Launched In 90 PS Diesel Hybrid Only . Petrol and the Suzuki Diesel could join the line-up in 2018.

Quote:
2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Facelift will have mileage of 25.1 kmpl while ditching 1.6L diesel engine; no petrol or AT/AMT will be on offer
Quote:
The 1.5-litre M15 four-cylinder engine is good enough to produce 100 hp of maximum power at 5,900 rpm and 133 Nm of peak torque at 4,100 rpm. The engine might join the lineup later but not any time soon.

Can understand what you would be going through reading these reports and just waiting and waiting for more information on what will be on offer on the facelift S-Cross.

When demand for petrol cars are seen, don't know what is stopping Maruti from launching one!?! Lack of engine? There is the K14M (if needed) which in the car will feel sluggish actually and if needed there is the beautiful old SX4 petrol engine (M16A), ideal candidate for the engine.

Dad and me both were tired with this information or rather lack of it, we decided to give up on getting the S-Cross in its 1.6 avatar. Have booked the Hyundai Creta as a replacement.

Wow MSIL lost a loyal and long standing customer in you?
Am surprised with your Creta decision, why not the Jeep Compass?

Disappointed with the news coming in so far, possibly a few more days before they give a public announcement on the 1.6 being given a quiet death. Have put away the decision to replace my car for another year and half...

S Cross is 11 lakhs, Creta is 14 lakhs, while Compass is 20 lakhs. These are for Top Spec Trims. The Creta SX (O) is better equipped then Compass Sport. Also, the Compass Limited (O) doesn't have Auto Headlamps or wipers. So, apart from that 2.0 Diesel & the Jeep Brand there is nothing left in it to be considered worthy despite the premium price.

Coming to S Cross, it's main attraction was the 1.6 Diesel, with that gone it now feels like any normal car. Even if Maruti has plans to plonk their own Engine next year, they need to tune it like that 1.6.

I am very surprised that Maruti has skipped Petrol option. May be they'll bring those Speculated 1.5 Petrol & Diesel engines next year during Auto Expo. Just my guess.

Its really sad that Maruti decided to drop the 1.6 diesel. I guess after the large price cut, margins on the product were thin.
Just curious, how much will the hybrid system add to the 1.3's output? What is expected price increase due to the hybrid system?

Maruti Suzuki could take mileage and gain out of the Hybrid theory.

Current Cess for Hybrid vehicles is still capped at 15% so if new S-Cross gets launched in Hybrid version, it will still attract a GST of 43% instead of 53%

.
True agree to your thought process, at the 15 Lakh on Road prices, S Cross 1.6 made a fantastic VFM with its good body build, interiors and equipment along with ride quality.

Creta somehow fails to convince me with the ride quality aspect or probably two test drives were insufficient for me. POssibly the overal cost of ownership including the fuel consumption, service costs might make it look better than Jeep Compass.

Jeep Compass does lack a few features but I felt it has a better ride quality (again from my test drive experience). These lack of features actually are not a deal breaker for me.

Overall will be disappointed if MSIL does not roll out a 1.6, they can at least produce them on demand just like how M&M does it for their Getaway. Small portion but not to lose the customer totally.

But I guess its numbers after all which matter for MSIL, why bother over a few hundred when all their models are doing in thousands...

PS: Interestingly the website still shows 1.6 can be e-booked though in the current version.

This article says that both engine options will be available. No idea what Maruti is going to do. The secrecy is too much this time. Not many test mules have been seen. A Petrol Automatic is the need of hour. Let's see what comes on 26th.

re: 2016 Suzuki S-Cross facelift leaked. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 8.49 lakh

Anyone who has booked a 1.6 MJD for delivery successfully? Are they even taking a booking for it? Not accepting booking might not mean anything in the long run as they can always say that they will make it to order just like the last few that they did in 2016. But still it would give a fair idea if MS is keen on getting the 1.6L engine option or not. Articles from different media houses are speculating differently on the engine options. While one says it will only be the 90PS the other is saying engine options will remain same. So it is definitely a kind of see-saw effect. No clarity at all!!
