re: Refreshed Honda Amaze spied; *EDIT* Now launched starting 5.3 lakhs

The interior changes trumps the exterior ones for me. I personally feel the front grill and the bold bumper are a little too bold and in the face. The transition from AC knobs is a welcome step and I see it has made some space available for storage.

Overall very refreshing.

Refreshed Honda Amaze launched at Rs. 5.30 lakh

Honda has launched the refreshed Amaze in India. The compact sedan has been priced between Rs. 5.30 - 8.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The refreshed version sports a new front bumper as well as a new front chrome grill and new tail lamps.

On the inside, the Amaze gets a new dashboard like the Jazz / City. The interior still features a beige and black theme with the seats, door pads and the lower half of the dashboard finished in beige and the rest in black. There are some silver as well as piano black touches on the inside to add an upmarket look. The seats feature a new fabric as well and the car gets a new '3D' speedometer design with a multi-information display (MID).

The refreshed Amaze continues to be powered by the same 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines which produce 87 BHP and 99 BHP respectively. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is however, the option of a CVT (continuously variable transmission) mated to the 1.2L petrol engine in an 89 BHP tune. What's more is that it's more fuel efficient than the manual gearbox at 18.1 km/l (vs 17.8 km/l). The diesel returns a fuel efficiency figure of 25.8 km/l.

The car is available in 4 manual gearbox equipped variants - E, S, SX and VX, while the CVT is available with the petrol S and VX variants only. ABS with EBD is available as standard across all diesel and petrol AT variants, while only the SX and VX grades of the petrol manual get ABS + EBD. Only the SX and VX variants come equipped with dual front airbags.

The Amaze is available in 7 colours - Carnelian Red Pearl, Urban Titanium metallic, Alabaster Silver metallic, Golden Brown metallic, Taffeta White, Orchid White Pearl and a new colour called Bluish Titanium.

Given below are the ex-showroom Delhi prices (in rupees):

Petrol
E - 5,29,900
S - 5,95,400
SX - 6,80,500
VX - 7,19,900
S CVT - 7,19,900
VX CVT - 8,19,900

Diesel
E - 6,41,900
S - 7,29,900
SX - 7,82,000
VX - 8,19,900

The instrument cluster lighting does look a lot better. If I remember it used to amber.
Also this looks like the interiors of the BR-V. Does the current (pre-facelift) Amaze come with ACC. From the picture it seems that there is an ACC unit.

Refreshed Amaze look much better than the current model. However the build quality of the Indian Honda cars are average and hence the safety is always questionable. Instead of focusing on the exterior looks and features, the Honda must focus on safety aspect like Toyota where the entry model (Etios and Etios Liva) has 4 star safety rating from Global NCAP.

Refreshed Amaze is a welcome change from Honda. It is good to see that they moved on from the weird looking age-old dash to a modern one. I wonder what how buyers will feel when they take a look at B-RV interiors. The exteriors of the new Amaze is okay, may be a bit more over-dressed for my liking. The new Amaze seems to use the fog lamps from the 2008-2012 Honda City.

Honda states that its entire range of cars will be equipped with dual airbags as standard equipment by March 2017. The company will offer dual airbags as standard for all new models from coming April.

The interior looks much better and more modern now, despite the thin front seats and fixed headrests at both the front & rear. The old interior was a big turn off for many.

Auto A/C feature is present only on the SX & VX variants. The lower ones get the normal HVAC system with buttons in place of rotary knobs. However, the silly manual slider for re-circulation & fresh air modes is common for both the HVAC & auto A/C systems.

This is good news, but I think it was only expected as the new BNVSAP norms would come into force by then. It's highly unlikely that a car without a driver airbag would be able to clear the BNVSAP, which is based on the UN ECE R94 & R95 regulations.

I was expecting this facelift to get dual airbags or at least a driver airbag as a standard feature. But just like Renault with the facelifted Duster, it's extremely stupid of Honda not to provide even a standard driver airbag on the facelifted Amaze.

If you refer to Honda press release
https://www.hondacarindia.com/mediac...aspx?pr_id=366

Extracts:
The company also announced its Safety Direction for India that every new Honda model, introduced in the market from new fiscal year 2016 – 17 will apply Dual SRS as standard equipment across all variants. Also, Dual SRS Airbags will become standard offering across Honda line-up, including current models, by April 2017. Additionally, the customers of the new Amaze can opt for Dual SRS airbags from the base variant, and the bookings for these variants will begin from May this year.

The new Amaze now comes equipped with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), and becomes the first petrol car in its class to offer advanced CVT technology.

Re: Refreshed Honda Amaze spied; *EDIT* Now launched starting 5.3 lakhs

After much deliberation I decided to go for the VX CVT variant today, the new speedo with MID (looks stunning when lit!) along with the interior refresh obviously played a huge part in getting my decision made.

It now gets the S mode as well due to the addition of CVT.

The keywords here are new models. This means a new variant introduced after April next year. Existing models like Amaze, Jazz, City etc. will be exempt from this mandate. This is simply to comply with the proposed government regulations. It is unfortunate that Honda did not decide to make airbags and ABS standard in all vehicles, existing and new, from next year.

interesting to note that the Amaze CVT does not get paddle shift (Which the Jazz and City top end variant) have. But at the same time from the image below, seems to have an L mode in addition to S.

Re: Refreshed Honda Amaze spied; *EDIT* Now launched starting 5.3 lakhs

I checked out the new Amaze this morning and the showroom had the old one standing right next to it. The new one looks remarkably different. What I did not like was, even the top end CVT had 2 plastic buttons (empty slots) to the right of steering wheel on the dash. You pay 9+ on the road and still see 2 black slots. People complaining about the slot in Jazz where the start - stop button was supposed to be will not like this one either.

Also, the sales guy said existing stocks are having discounts as much as 50k depending on the color / model.

If you look at the City review, there is a pic of the lower SV variant of City CVT. That has the "L" mode and no paddle shifts.

This is the same as the City SV trim.

Edit: City SV CVT gear lever:

A bit sad for somebody like me having finalised the VX CVT, but one can't expect everything at a lower price tag. :(

Actually you're not missing much. From our drive of the Jazz CVT last year which has the same 1.2L engine, the paddles were not of much use. In a CVT transmission, the paddles are gimmicks really as there is nothing like a kick down.

Only CVT which mimics gear charges with the paddles is the Toyota CVT in the Altis.

The City has a bigger 1.5L engine so the paddles are not as useless as it translates to forward movement. In the Jazz downshifting using the paddles would just increase the noise and whine and revs would go up but no real progress would take place.
