Any update on Tuscon. I was expecting them to be launched same time but :-(
They will take some time to make sure Elantra is noticed in the market before the launch the Tucson. Tucson is sure to become a hit in our SUV crazy market, while Elantra is entering a struggling D segment.

The side profile reminds me of Ciaz, especially the alloys and the rear

this set of pics looks like the Elantra was brought there to be spied upon and photographed inside out. Esp look at the number of bottle storages ... can't think of a reason why one would want to drink so much water while testing a new car on road ...

re: The 6th-gen Hyundai Elantra. EDIT: Launched at 12.99 lakh

Here is Autocar's review / test drive of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra.

Engine (as tested): Type 4 cyls, 1591cc, petrol. Power 128hp at 6300rpm Torque 155Nm at 4850rpm

Hyundai has a much peppier engine on the cards for India – a 149hp 2.0-litre unit – and this is likely to be followed by a nicer twin-clutch gearbox as well.

re: The 6th-gen Hyundai Elantra. EDIT: Launched at 12.99 lakh

I don't think Hyundai could've picked a better time to debut the 2017 Elantra in the Indian market, the segment benchmark Jetta has bowed out due to low sales and no matter what popular perception is I'd put the Jetta above the Octavia all day long.

Its time for Hyundai to finally dominate the high-end segment and I think this time they truly have a chance with the current Elantra, Tucson & Sonata, two of which will be introduced this year. The new Elantra is a revelation as far as engineering goes and every review points to its extremely quiet interiors, almost from a class above, sturdy handling and benchmark as far as safety and value goes > Safety Pick+ Ranking, Lane Change Indicator, Blind Spot Monitoring, 7 Airbags etc.

Also if anyone doubts the company's ability to make solid cars :

This is quite contrary to what has been fed through a series of relentless rumours, (un)camouflaged darshans etc till date.

The diesel engine seems to delivering at the same state of tune as the incumbent. Maybe this is tuned to Indian taste for FE. (at par)

Warranty is now 3 yrs as opposed to 4 yrs on the outgoing version. (-ve)

Fuel tank size has come down by 6 liters - cannot fathom why this should come down of all things. (-ve)

Free services last an extra 10K km (total of 30k) compared to 20K on the incumbent. (+ve)

Boot size comes down by 62 liters (-^n ve)

Overall, utility quotient seems to have come down a bit. While there has been focus on adding a lot of bells and whistles, the cow seems to be absent.

I was a bit surprised too, so I tried to compare the specifications and while there are no direct comparisons listed between the new and old models, I seem to keep getting from Indian sources that the storage capacity of the Fluidic Elantra is 420 litres, this would actually make the boot capacity of the new car as +38 litres. There is another Australian review that puts the boot-space at 485 litres, which is 27 litres more than the upcoming model. You are right on the fuel tank though, its 6 litres smaller and the reason for the slight "reduction" in both is given as improved damper positioning, in order to improve vehicular control the dampers have been setup vertically | | instead of the inclined setup of the previous version / \

Overall I think that this version has more substance than before (except of course for the smaller boot and fuel tank). It will drive better, it is definitely better constructed (53% high strength steel vs 21% earlier) and safer and every review points to the fact that its much more stable and quieter than the old model. We'll know once the officially specs sheet arrives though, and when I'm done with the test drive as soon as its available.

Thanks for the specifications, RavenAvi. It's nice to see full credit always being given to the source on Team-BHP (as it should be!) If only the same can be said about other automobile websites.

It's a bit surprising to see the state of tune of the 1.6 CRDi, which is the same as that on the Verna and Creta. I guess the poor quality diesel sold in India may not suit the slightly higher state of tune found elsewhere.

As for the petrol, while I'll wait for official confirmation from Hyundai, the 2.0 litre Nu seems to be the first ever Atkinson cycle petrol engine on a non-hybrid car in India, as also the first ever Atkinson cycle motor on a car costing less than 2 million rupees. This is yet another feather in the cap of firsts for Hyundai!

While the power produced by the 2.0 litre Nu Atkinson (152 PS) is only marginally more than that of the regular 1.8 litre Nu (148 PS) on the previous Elantra, I hope Hyundai's bold gamble with the Atkinson cycle pays off handsomely for customers by delivering superb everyday drivability and stellar fuel efficiency figures.

Seriously, rear armrest is a "notable feature" in a 20+ lacc car, according to Hyundai?

Could you please share more info on this engine?

The 2.0 litre Nu is available in 3 configurations - regular MPi, GDi and MPi Atkinson with differing power outputs. I'm only making an educated guess (while waiting for official confirmation, for I could be wrong) that Hyundai are equipping the new Elantra with the 2.0 litre Nu running on the Atkinson cycle. My guess is based on the output numbers.

Here is the theory of how modern, practical Atkinson cycle engines work:

re: The 6th-gen Hyundai Elantra. EDIT: Launched at 12.99 lakh

Birdie confirms a few more things:

- The petrol MT & the petrol AT share the same FE figure of 14.6 kmpl.

- The 8-inch touchscreen Head Unit is equipped with both Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

- The 16-inch alloy wheels are shared with the previous-generation Elantra (possibly in lower variants).

More info as I receive them.

re: The 6th-gen Hyundai Elantra. EDIT: Launched at 12.99 lakh

The Elantra will be launched on 23-Aug!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/a...w/53745252.cms

Quote:
Hyundai India is all set to launch the next-generation Elantra on August 23. The D-segment car's bookings have commenced (albeit unofficially) across Hyundai dealerships in the country
Quote:
Under the hood details are expected to remain unchanged for the diesel variant, which means it'll get the existing 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 128PS of power. However, the power figures are likely to take a bump to around 140PS, courtesy a retuned motor. Contrarily, the 1.8-litre petrol engine could be subbed with a heavier 2.0-litre one, which churns out 156PS. The engines are likely to be mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Quote:
The current pricing of the Elantra falls in the bracket of Rs 15.1 lakh to Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The updated version's price is likely to start on similar lines as the ongoing one.
