Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard launched at Rs. 10.50 crore

Mercedes-Benz has launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard in India at a price of Rs. 10.50 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard is the world’s first civilian vehicle to be certified with the highest ballistic protection level - VR 10. To obtain this certification, the car's bodywork and windows must be able to withstand hardened steel core bullets fired from an assault rifle.

The under-body of the car is armoured as well and is claimed to protect its occupants from explosions. The sides of the car can also withstand explosions and the car has an ERV (Explosive Resistant Vehicles) 2010 blast protection rating as well.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard uses a reinforced body shell, special steel and materials in the base structure and bodywork, as well as windows coated with polycarbonate to prevent splintering. The underbody armouring entirely covers the undercarriage below the occupant compartment.

On the inside, the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard gets rear seats that are positioned further back. The car also gets optional assistance systems such as Night View Assist Plus, the LED Intelligent Light System and a 360-degree camera.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is offering a number of features as optional extras. These include opaque roller blinds all-round in the rear, heated windscreen and side windows, a panic alarm system, a fire extinguisher system with automatic activation, an emergency fresh air system that protects occupants from the ingress of smoke or irritant gases, hydraulic power for the side windows and LED reading lamps in the rear.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard is powered by a 5,980 cc, V12 petrol engine that develops 523 BHP @ 4,900-5,300 rpm and 830 Nm of torque @ 1,900-4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. The car has a claimed 0-100 kph time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 kph.

The vehicle can be serviced and repaired at all Mercedes-Benz service outlets.

This should be our PM's next car. That aging BMW 7-series should be replaced with this one.

Whoa! That is one expensive car. I wonder what will be the on road price of the same? While I would want our PM to use the car, it should be bought only after getting all the necessary tests done.

The Non Maybach version is already available for Rs 8.9 Cr (Ex-Showroom).

So for those who dont want to pay that extra Rs 1.6 Cr & need a similar level of protection (Merc S600 is VR9 rated) this is the thread to look out for;

10 Crores. As much as it is jawdropping, this is the car I guess, dictators and druglords entrust their lives to. Who else need these?

What tests, I wonder. Cost for any destructive test (crash test for example) is going to find its way into our EPFs. I think our country could do without these.

Re: Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard launched at Rs. 10.50 crore

This car is taking things to a new level both in terms of price and the kind of security it offers. Got a chance to see this car in person and I was amazed by the amount of reinforcement it gets compared to the regular Maybach or the S.

I guess there could be some takers for such cars since in our country some people have a lot of money and are either worried about their safety or not sure where to invest it.

The black borders on the windscreens and windows usually is a good indicator that the car is armoured, and in this case it is

Its clear its an S600, also note the V12 badge on the front fender & the thicker high profile tyres are another give away in addition to what AbelAFC already pointed out.

Actually, you are right, the borders are thinner than the Maybach hence my thought but when I looked at the S600 post, I find this is a Guard version. The thickness seems different to the Maybach. Also I missed the V12 badge on the side!

Usually the Guard version more often than not comes with sad looking wheels, which is an indicator.

Re: Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard launched at Rs. 10.50 crore

Finally we have a car that can in theory counter the atrocious potholes of Bombay roads.

But seriously, am I the only one getting flummoxed by mind boggling prices of such cards. I am sure the tech inside must be cutting edge, but still 10Cr!!!

I fall into the class of people who would even balk at asking the question that first pops up... "mileage kitna deti he?" I will pass, not the car for me

I guess the alloys chosen by Mr. Ambani are more standard S-Class looking wheels so that it can confuse people about it being a bulletproof car.
