That thought has crossed my mind and I have been looking for a good used automatic. But after my mom test drove the Jazz, she loved everything about it, especially the space inside. My mom is slightly claustrophobic. So once she has set her mind on the Jazz, I dont want to change it (heart over head, i know!). And I am not able to find a used Jazz CVT :(

Anyway, I guess I will go ahead and buy it in Mysore, and put up with the hassle of transfer later.

Thanks for your advice!

It's usually heart over mind when it comes to motor-heads and families

If a Honda w/autobox is the criteria and your Mom doesn't mind the slight extra bulk, you could also give the City CVT a look. A used example should be easier to find.

RTO processes are changing slowly, and who knows rules may hopefully change in users' favor a few years down the line.

Good luck with the purchase, whatever you and your Mom end up choosing.

Re: Out-of-state cars can run on Karnataka roads for 1 year!

Mods : please move it to appropriate thread if this is not the right one

I am expecting delivery of my car in fag end of next week. I am also planning an interstate trip immediately after that.

Here are my questions

1. Most probably, i will not have RC available with me. I assume I will have tax paid receipt. Question: Is that good enough to take the car on outside state journey?

2. The registration plate too may not be ready by then. Is it OK to use a print out of the registration number in such a journey?

3.Is it OK to take the car on a long journey before the run in period? How safe is it to do so?

Better get a proper number plate done, even though it's temporary. Should not cost much and you can always use the other side with new numbers when you get permanent.

Of course Yes, don't use Cruise more often instead try to keep RPM's varying and if possible include a plan which includes urban as well highway. Looks you are going to take away your Endeavour for a long trip all the best. Do consider upgrading tyres.

Re: Out-of-state cars can run on Karnataka roads for 1 year!

Hi Everyone

I might be moving in to Pune by around April. Can anyone confirm till what time legally can we ply a car in a different state. Is it one year? Also if a road tax needs to be paid in MH; how much would that be?

My car is 2+ years old and is a KA registered car.

Any information will be of great help.

Thanks
Rish

RTOs fall under state jurisdiction, so rules vary by state. You'll be best served by referring to MH-specific rules here for tax calculations etc.

As for legality of driving out-of-state cars in MH, section 23 says this:
Quote:
...no certificate of taxation may be issued in respect of a visiting vehicle intended to be used in the State for less than a year from the date of arrival in the State...

"Notice to govt in vehicle tax case"
Jan 31 2017 : The Times of India (Bangalore)
The high court on Monday ordered notice to the government in a PIL challenging the explanation notes on `cost of vehicle' appearing in the schedule to the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation (KMVT) Act 1957.
A division bench adjourned the hearing while asking the state to respond to the petition filed by Dove Drive Without Borders Foundation, a Bengaluru-based company set up on August 31, 2015, with the objective of engaging with state governments and transport departments for better legislation and implementation of beneficial laws for road users.

The petitioners claimed the problematic part is the inclusion of earlier taxes and freight charges within the meaning of `cost of vehicle', and the same has wide-ranging implications on every vehicle in the state."

Discussed in this thread: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...howroom-5.html (Tax on Tax? Road tax should be calculated on ex-factory price (not ex-showroom)!)

Dear Friends,

The Honourable Supreme has rejected the Karnataka Govt's appeal for Stay on the Judgement delivered by the Division Bench of Karnataka.Having said that, their SLP is admitted.

It will take few years for the matter to come up for hearing.

Thank you for the fight Waseem Sir
Glad that the honourable Supreme Court upheld the High Court judgement. Hope the Karnataka Govt drops this issue and concentrate on other pressing matters.
