Re: Tata - Great Endurance Challenge @ VRDE

Good effort and yes running at peak speed continuously is no small task.
One thing I found odd is that they are not publishing live updates on twitter using a dedicated handle and there is no hashtag also. It does not matter if you already have a corporate handle for event like this social media marketing is a must.

I do not blame Tata Motors alone in most companies people who have responsibility of digital marleting hardle understand social media. Top boss of the group may have team but smaller efforts do not get time and attention.

So Zee news is updating onTwitter but did not understand why Tata Motors official handle its not promoting this. If the marketing team was forseeing risk and wanted an arms length distance atleast they could have created a dedicated handle.

They are throwing away a good chance to redeem the brand by not involving in this.

Coming to cars, I have traveled/driven upto 1200kms in a single day on many occasions and in cars varying from a M800 to a Pajero. Even there, I have observed this hoarseness which slowly goes away after the engine cools down completely. It's like yelling at the top of your voice continuously and you end up getting a sore throat. Take some rest and you recover slowly.

You think they are going to share these vital statistics? If they do and results are impressive, I am sure there will be converts.

While I have observed few of these traits with homegrown manufacturers [and they are improving in a big way] haven't seen this trait with Japs or Europeans but then, I couldn't always red-line the SFX [or most vehicles citing road conditions & general traffic sense/awareness] I drove and whichever wheels were driven with WOT [wide open throttle] ended up being smoother.

Different experiences

Re: Tata - Great Endurance Challenge @ VRDE

That is around 122 kph average speed over 17 days continuously. Means they were all driven above 150 kph all the time. Awesome achievement, and kudos to whole team behind it. There are many woman drivers in the team and Mira Erda is the youngest (I think she is around 16).

Re: Tata - Great Endurance Challenge @ VRDE

Congratulations, Tata!

While 50000 km in 17 days is a worthy achievement, I agree with others here that most, if not all cars sold in India now can do the same. This publicity stunt is particularly significant to Tata since the public perception is that their cars are not as reliable as Maruti or Hyundai.

For this record to have any credibility, the whole process should have been audited by an independent third party to verify the event and the records. Tata should be open about the data acquired during this event and should publish the information that is relevant to the public. I personally don't have any confidence that this is how things are.

The big question now is how Tata will publicise this achievement and make use of it to improve sales. Knowing Tata's marketing department's track record, they'll probably find a way of losing another golden opportunity. In fact, this event had so few and infrequent twitter and mass media updates from TML that I think that they are already losing the plot.

As Geoff Boycott would say "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!".

from their website

Tata Motors passenger cars – ZEST, BOLT and the soon to be launched, TIAGO, will undergo a rigorous challenge at the Vehicle Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), in Ahmednagar.

Conducted under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the sanctioning body for the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile – the international motorsport body), this endurance challenge has been designed and developed in partnership with ZEEGNITION as an independent auto expert testing the cars, backed by the Indian Oil Corporation of India (IOCL) and JK Tyres.

The Geared For Great Challenge will witness the Petrol variants of the ZEST, the BOLT along with petrol and diesel variants of the TIAGO tested for high-speed as well as fuel economy. Over 60 professional drivers and auto experts will be participating in this mega event to push these cars to their limits.

Re: Tata - Great Endurance Challenge @ VRDE

5Ok is good. 100K should have been attempted.

I believe TATA will transparently share the details.

How well they will market is a question time will answer.

I believe this is commendable. Yes all cars can maybe do this but doing is believing. Lets not assume.

Many global cars were assumed to easily pass crash trsts but didn't when tested. This is just to demonstrate that actual achievements are more believable that assumed capabilities.
