A Swift with a 1.4l boosterjet and 6 speed manual is like a dream come true!
Thankfully they didn't give it the puny 1.0L ecoboost and rather have a proper upsized 1.4L engine over the standard 1.2L
Hoping they would sell it in India too. Will surely give the GT twins and the Baleno RS some serious competition.

Every Swift iteration till date has had an accompanying 'Sport' version.
All previous versions had some tuned version of the venerable M16A engine ( which did duty in the SX4 in India ).
The Swift 'Sport' has been featured in a handful of Fifth-Gear episodes & at least 1 Top-Gear episode.
Here's a Needel review of the 1st iteration from 10 years ago :

If it comes to India at all, it will be a watered down version, a version of the regular Swift with the 1.0 L 'Booster Jet' most likely.
The only thing 'Sport' about such a version would be the badge
.

A view of the Suzuki Sagara plant - Swift , Ignis and more. Suzuki's production seems fully utilized with its products doing good all across its targeted segments.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

The world has changed between the last launch of Swift and today; It was path breaking design in those days with some similarities to VW Beetle and looked fantastic.

With the upcoming launch for Swift, since the Moniker is no longer shared with Dzire, it is possible that the hatchback is presented with a differentiated engine combination even in India.

It is possible to get it with 6 speed MT along with a powerful engine as "Swift" has a different fan following and people are ready to pay higher for Swift (this was tested in past when Swift and Ritz were both in market).

I am hopeful of a sweet offering from MSIL in order to lead the Indian hatchback bloc !

This looks promising. Sadly, this will not come to India, maybe not even later. The Indian Swift will be offered with the same engines available with a possible RS variant at a later stage just like Baleno. This could be because of the tax structure as 1.4 will be an imported engine with displacement more than 1.2L. Another reason could be that MSIL looks at volumes mainly so this might not add much to its kitty. The ground clearance will be as per the new Dzire so it might scrape the bumps. But the car does look fabulous in person.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Based on the super lack luster sales of Baleno RS, Maruti won't try a sports variant in the near future. The volumes are completely unsustainable. Looking at Ignis, I highly doubt whether Maruti will update this model ever again.
On the Swift front, going by what I saw at Japan, it's an identical mechanical package with a new skin and oodles of weight being shed.

Yet another case where Maruti launches a good product with a half hearted approach in an overpriced package, only to see it flop as expected, and then claim that the market is not ready, while countinuing to sell substandard products in huge volumes.

Earlier such cases -

Grand Vitara
Kizashi
SCross 1.6

RS may have been a sustainable product. RS with a 1.5L premium over the normal variants just for an 18 BHP and 35 Nm advantage? Now that was never going to bring volumes!
