Ah ha, I think I finally cracked the "Design Secret" :

Front - Elite I20 + Renault Pulse....Rear - Etios Liva...From the Side - Chevrolet Beat + Suzuki Brezza + Etios Liva (Alloys)

= 2017 Suzuki Swift

But there is no denying the fact that there was at least one 'In-House' design inspiration (Brezza) amidst all this Japanese Bhelpuri!!

Cult Headrests!

I quite like it. All of it together, somehow works. Except, what is up with Suzuki using those KKK-hat type headrests? They're there in the Ignis too.

Dont like the new design. It looks like the swift is inspired a lot from the new i20. But hey, its a Maruti. Will set the sale charts on fire.

Is the blue one a lower variant when compared to the red one? Both have different grills and the angle of the picture makes the red one look wider.

Any views on the structural stability of the Swift or is there going to be a big silence on that one?

2017 Suzuki swift will go on sale in Japan from 4th Jan 2017.

Suzuki like other models will be tested by Euro NCAP before its Europe launch.
For India it will be tested as per the upcoming crash test norms.

Quote:
Adopted a new platform that changed the design of the skeleton part and made lighter by increasing rigidity. We reduced the weight of the seat and engine, made the weight of the vehicle 120 kilograms less than before, and made it less than 1000 kilograms in all grades.
During the launch Suzuki acknowledges India as the biggest market of Swift.

Quote:
From November 2004 when we started unifying the name as a global strategic car, we achieved 5.3 million worldwide sales (54% in India, 17% in Europe, 10% in Japan, 10% in others) (November 2016) There. This B segment vehicle that brought about a change in making Suzuki's cars received a reputation such as winning the Car of the Year awards in various countries around the world

Well if the Swift hatch looks this bad, I wonder how ugly will it's sedan cousin the DZire will end up looking!!

The design is very confusing to say the least. Any pics of the rear bench and the leg room?

Happy to see that Suzuki finally came up with a new steering wheel design after so many years. Wish this wheel appear in few of their cars in India soon.

Oh and do not miss the Baleno-esque curves on the side profile!

The problem with this and the previous gen is that the first gen Swift was such a blockbuster hit worldwide in terms of the design. The previous gen was everything the first gen wasn't - fat and boring. Going by the first looks, this one doesn't look very appealing either but I'll save my judgments when I get to see the actual car. Interiors look pretty much up to date and the steering wheel looks nice. The person who designed the alloys though must be fired immediately!
Also, I do not understand the reason why Maruti needs 2 cars - Baleno and Swift to compete with the i20!

Seriously, Suzuki needs to work on the alloys. HORRIBLE - The trend started with Swift, S-Cross and it continues.

Whenever I pass by a secondhand alloy shop I see a few of S-Cross alloys on sale.

I quite like the design and the boot looks bigger although loading lip is still quite high. I feel the sedan version should look OK given the already pointed nose and a bulging boot.
But what I fail to understand is if India accounts for 54% of Swift sales why doesn't Maruti have the spine to have the global launch here in India ??

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Variants in Japan, six trim levels offered there – RSt, Hybrid RS, RS, Hybrid ML, XL and XG.

Quote:
Two engines will be available – the K10C 1.0 litre Boosterjet turbocharged three-cylinder and K12C 1.2 litre twin-injector Dualjet NA four-cylinder. The former produces 102 PS at 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 1,700 to 4,500 rpm, while the latter makes 91 PS at 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.

The K10C(boosterjet) is only offered on the RSt, and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, driving the front wheels.

Meanwhile, RS, XL and XG models that are powered by the larger of the two mills, get either a five-speed manual or CVT instead, with a choice of two- or four-wheel drive.

The two hybrid models – Hybrid RS and Hybrid ML – employ the K12C motor, but introduces a 3.1PS/50 Nm DC synchronous electric motor that acts as the car’s integrated starter generator (ISG). The ISG is linked to a dedicated lithium-ion battery pack and helps to assist the engine during acceleration, idling stops, as well as generate electricity while decelerating.
All hybrid models can only be had with a CVT, although there are two- and four-wheel drive options.
The Swift’s cabin has been revamped, now sporting a more upmarket appearance than before. Main changes include the new dash, circular air-con vents, two-tone trim, climate control switchgear, flat-bottom steering wheel and instrument cluster.

The biggest improvement is seen in the safety and driver assistance feature set, with up to six airbags (dual front, side and curtain), ESP and ABS being standard items. On higher-spec models, there is even a camera and laser radar fitted just behind the rearview mirror, allowing for brake assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control function.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

To me the 3rd gen swift looks like well executed and carries the legacy forward w.r.to to design. The original swift was considered to be quirky and this is no different. With the new swift is expected to weigh at least 100 Kilo's lesser than the feather light 890 KG Baleno, I expect the swift to breach the 30KM/L barrier in DDiS+SHVS avatar.
