The Euro NCAP Safety standards itself has changed from the two Gen Swifts that you quoted.

Excerpts explaining Euro NCAP tests :

Quote:
Euro NCAP constantly strives to make new cars safer. As a result, its tests become more stringent almost every year. This means that a car that achieved a five-star rating back in 2012 might not score the same today, so it’s worth doing your research beforehand.

Re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Guess this Swift rating is the same one from 2017?

Both Baleno and Swift seem to have similar rating(3 star), only difference being Baleno's latest Euro NCAP results are form 2016 and Swift's from 2017. And this is with 6 airbags.

Attached both the test results.
Baleno:

Swift :

Both state the passenger compartment being 'Stable' in frontal offset test. Hope the body-shell atleast is same for international and Indian Swift/Baleno? Would be interesting to see what Indian Swift scores now since 2 airbags,ABS and isofix are a part of standard equipment now, unlike earlier case where Lxi/LDi was tested which didn't have any of these safety equipment in place. 2 stars maybe?

Source : EuroNcap

Edit : Did anyone get a chance to test-drive the Diesel AMT?

Yes we need to see how the new cars fare in the upcoming safety norms as applicable to India.

Each safety norm has its way of awarding, with EURO NCAP being the most stringent of the lot.

See below the rating of Swift when tested by ANCAP,

Re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Even the base GL variant was scored 4 by ANCAP (though the tested version has more airbags that the Indian model), with the following rider:

Quote:
*Overall score truncated. Rating limited to 4 stars because the vehicle does not meet the minimum safety assist technologies (SAT) requirements for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.
Remains to be seen whether the Indian car is built to the same standards.

Checked the web-sites for the India spec and UK Spec cars. There is a difference of ~4% in weight (50kg).

There must be some cost/safety optimization for sure.

Despite that, in the same segment, there are cars which improved their rating, some of them maintained the good scores and some scored lesser. The Swift unfortunately falls in the last category.

Please provide some examples of the former category?

I'm under the same impression that 3 star rating in the current format is just as good as 5 star of the earlier generation. The rating standards have moved forward, specially to account for new electronic active safety features.

While posting that, I was looking at a list of all cars tested by Euro NCAP under the Supermini class. In that list, there are a lot of cars tested before 2009 which have improved their ratings in the later years. But the testing format/pattern looks completely different and I realised later that the comparison of results of a particular car tested before 2009 and later may be illogical. The format of the results itself is different for cars tested after 2009, in the way that there doesn't seem to be an overall star rating for a pre-2009 vehicle. The stars are awarded for each of the 3 categories: Adult, Child & Pedestrian. So I guess the comparison wasn't fair.

But if you look at the test results from 2010 onwards, Nissan Micra got the below score in 2010:

Size: 10.9 KB

But in 2017, the scores were improved:
Name: Micra 2017.PNG
Views: 3659
Size: 21.0 KB

Similarly, Toyota Aygo made some improvements from 2012-2014, but scored lower in 2017:

Size: 14.6 KB
Name: Aygo 2014.PNG
Views: 3616
Size: 14.3 KB

In 2017:

Size: 26.7 KB

Meanwhile, Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris and Seat Ibiza have maintained the overall 5 star rating.

Suzuki Swift loses out to VW's Polo on the 2018 World Urban Car title,

Quote:
The final results of the 2018 World Car Awards were just announced at #NYIAS. Although the Swift did not receive the title, it was a great honor for our cars to have been voted as the top 3 for two consecutive years.
A great thank you, to all of you, for your support! Congratulations to all the WCA winners

Re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Drove the Swift Diesel AMT last evening and was disappointed (at least in our test car) as to how jerky things were. It's damn sensitive to throttle input. Found it jerky while accelerating as well as decelerating.

Things weren't as jerky in the Petrol AMT that I'd driven just a couple of days before.

So that confirms 2 things to me GTO:
  1. The DDiS + AMT on the 2018 Swift is one of the worst options in the market today!
  2. The 'TBHP Official Car Review of 2018 Swift' is just round the corner.

This is always something I really wanted to know as to how given the usual Turbo lag as well as the sudden 'kick' the Multijet will behave if an AMT is fitted onto it. Devising a logic to shift gears based on various attributes - Throttle Input, Speed, RPM, Load, rate of acceleration etc., along with the much anticipated Turbo kick would certainly not be an easy one, especially with Maruti Diesels.

I may be totally wrong but I feel AMTs or even ATs would work best for Diesel cars that exhibit linear acceleration characteristics; something most of the Maruti Diesels dont!

Exhaust Upgrade

I'm looking for an aftermarket performance exhaust for my 2018 swift petrol. What are the options? I have no experience with changing exhaust and this will be my first. Any information is helpful. Is there any thread dedicated to this?

Because all of them sport same 1.3L national engine in different states of tune!
