VW's customer experience events - Polo GTI, Tiguan, Passat GTE, Beetle & more

The Polo GTI, Passat GTE, Tiguan TSI and New Beetle were on display at a VW Event in Pune, organised by the city's premier dealership B U Bhandari Volkswagen.

According to the showroom folks, the Polo GTI will be priced at around 18-20 lakhs with a launch by end of this year/early next year. The Tiguan is slated to retail at 30-40 lakhs.

I like the Tiguan however if they price it around 30-40 lakhs surely that will kill the product. It is the size of the Q3 and the X1 and both these cars start retailing around the 30 mark. Anyone would pick the newer X1. I feel they would need to price the Tiguan around 22-23 on road for it to have a chance.

So the GTI will also come with those stupid reflector headlights? They just can't light up the road. Looks like guys in VW India don't drive in the night.

20L for that GTI, and someone will say it is for the enthusiasts and I do believe that. But for 20 Big ones I am still getting a polo, with a hole. And to think the Punto Abarth was atrociously priced. Now this one takes the cake.
That beetle keeps looking more stupid with every new variant.
I like the Tiguan and the Passat though. They seem to be L hand drive, so I am thinking only here for the show and are yet to even start building RHD for India.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see that the Ameo was not displayed. Did they share any reason for that? Had read about this event and thought the idea was to showcase all their upcoming cars starting with the Ameo.

The Ameo was very much there, parked next to the Beetle. But I was so engrossed with the GTI and Tiguan that I didn't even took a look at the Ameo, hence no pics.

At 10L, the price point of Punto Abarth, there is no offering that comes close to the 147 houses that the Abarth offers.

The problem with the GTI however - it's just priced too close to their own premium offerings like the Octavia with the same engine and gearbox combination. Anyways, being a CBU- VW won't care much about the sales. It is just being launched as an image booster for the brand.

The Tiguan looks really elegant. I agree there is a high chance of VW over-pricing it. Given the Jetta is retailing for Rs. 25 Lacs on road, I do not expect Tiguan to come in anywhere below 32-33 Lacs on-road. In the US and other global markets, Tiguan is definitely slotted above the Jetta, its pricing is usually closer to the Passat than the Jetta.

Also it is disappointing that although Tiguan is coming with the 2.0 TFSI engine it has less power (177hp) compared to the Polo GTI, which has a 1.8 L TSI but has 190 hp of power! I hope they change this at launch.
