This car is dead if they dare to price it above the Duster AWD. The curvy exteriors don't add to the SUV feel. Duster is extremely friendly with exterior mods unlike the new gen curvy crossovers. Plus you get independent rear suspension. The new 2017 Duster interiors look much better than the Captur imo.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

I'm very confused about one thing. (Sorry if I missed this somewhere). On price and positioning - is this supposed to be above, alongside or below the corresponding Duster variant. I know the opening line suggests above Duster but honestly I really can't see how they can justify that positioning. Is this confirmed or conjecture?

Pricing above the Duster will just lead it to being completely eaten alive by the Creta and Jeep Compass both.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

I understand folks saying compass is a much better car and I expect this one to be priced 4 lakhs below the comparable compass variant.

However Captur has many strengths over the Creta. Better looks, flat ride with no long wave bounce, handling ,better steering feel, gc etc are strengths. I expect Captur to be much more of a driver's car

I hope Renault prices this at a slight discount to Creta. They should be able to get at least double the current Duster's sale.

The list ends the moment you step inside the cabin. The interiors (quality and layout) is a direct fit from Duster and it is the biggest deal breaker.

The strengths you mentioned applies equally to the current Duster so I don't see why Captur would sell at a premium. Another blow to Captur would be the safety rating, unless Renault learnt from the Duster fiasco.

What do you expect from a CEO who maintains silence over genuine issues? My experience with Renault reminds me of the quote “Delegating work works, provided the one delegating works, too.”

I was explaining the advantage with reference to Creta. If it's with reference to duster, the addons are given below. This contents is from RAHS's earlier post.

1. Dual tone exterior

2. Full LED Headlamps & Tail Lamps

3. LED DRLs

4. Audi-style sweeping indicators

5. R17 Crystal Cut alloys ( Duster has R16 alloys )

6. Leather seats ( Duster has premium fabric seats )

7. Smart Access Card

8. Updated Instrument Cluster

9. Engine start/stop button

10. Safety kit on ALL variants - Dual airbags, ABS, EBD, BA ( Not the case in Duster ). Side Airbags for the top variants.

11. Better crash protection ( As claimed by Renault )

12. ISOFIX Mount for child safety

13. Auto rain sensing wipers

14. Rear AC vents

15. Customization options ( Interior + Exterior )

What we miss ( At the moment )

1. AWD

2. Automatic variants

If we had a car with Duster's ride/handling/driving involvement/abuse friendly nature/Rear AC vents/GC/AWD/Great looks/ coupled with Creta's interior cabin quality/Ergonomics, obviously that would have been ideal.

Since i don't see such a car in the 10-15 lakh ex-showroom bracket, Captur (Kaptur) makes a great case for itself as long as they price it at par with Creta/Duster AWD.

Why did they answer through a message? They should say it in the open forum.

That message was shared with me by the person who asked the question, and he happens to be a friend. I've asked him to share what was the "message". Also, I was unable to see the commens on the particular post on the Renault page. They seemed to have made comments private.

In the age of Social Media, Renault cannot hide behind a fig leaf.

Many Indian consumers are now aware of safety features. Even though some people including Team-Bhp members do think that their brain/nerves/foot muscles are fast enough to replace ABS , majority of educated buyers do not want to compromise on safety features.

Surprising that this thread has little updates. I saw Captur parked at an event in a mall recently. I just opened the door, and closed it right back. The plastic and feel is so much closer to a Duster it is not funny. I did not find it to be an iota more premium than the Creta, its real competitor. The exterior is refreshing and aesthetic though.

I checked the Renault Captur yesterday and think it must be the most un ergonomic seats ever in cars more than 10 lakhs. Very high that the steering bumps against your knee, hardly any height adjustment, fixed arm rest and absolutely no space to rest your left feet. The car looks smashing from outside but very poor space in both front and back seat. Disclaimer I am 6'1
