Exactly my thoughts too! They have already increased the size; which is good. The Duster mechanicals are rock solid. Throw in the creature comforts and you are there. (Hopefully a good build quality).

Also the fact that if they share Duster mechanicals, costing will also be effective (I hope!)

If they can pull this off with good engineering and price it well along side the Creta, I think its a winner. That way, since Duster is past its product life cycle, they can price it down and also play in the sub-4m category with the rest.

This looks really good. Would fit in perfectly with the current crop of crossovers in India. Hopefully they will have the sense to bring it in time and price it competitively.

The Kaptur does look good here. If introduced in India anytime soon, it should do well against the competition.
One small query. So is the new auto climate control panel in the refreshed Duster borrowed from the Kaptur? Or is it shared across all the new cars Renault has?

Am I squinting or does the side profile actually resemble the XUV500 somewhat?

MotorOctane says 'Kaptur' is expected to be launched in India by Oct 2017 and will replace Duster.

But I don't understand the below statement's in that report
Quote:
Renault Kaptur will be competing with the Hyundai Creta and the Nissan Terrano. At the moment, these are the strongest competing products. Then there is also the Maruti S-Cross as well.
Quote:
Renault Kaptur will be launched in India by October 2017. Though it will compete with the Mahindra XUV500, it is expected to offer a better quality.

Renault imports Kaptur prototype

Within just a month from the commencement of Kaptur's production in Russia, the Indian subsidiary has got its hands on a prototype. With this pace, one can expect an expedited launch.

Kaptur (codename:HHA), unlike Captur is based on Duster's M0 platform and will go against the likes of Creta, BR-V etc. in India.

Car imported is powered by the H4M engine. H4M is 1.6L petrol engine which as per the official website, is capable of 113 BHP and 156 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It remains to be seen whether Renault will introduce a diesel variant.

Renault's Kaptur for India is likely to have ,

1. Likely to get tried-and-tested powertrains- 1.6-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre K9K motor. The diesel variant will be the mainstay of the package which could be tweaked to produce more power.

2. Could be modified as a Seven -seater,

3. Built on the versatile BO platform which also underpins the Duster, will give Renault the advantage of a high levels of localization. With its chassis dimensions being similar to that of the Duster’s, expect the Kaptur to have similar levels of space inside the cabin.

4. Launch in late 2017, a year after the Russian launch of Kaptur

5. Will retain its dual color tone- now a rage in India as seen in Vitara Brezza .

Kaptur looks good in the current design. Hopefully they won't go ahead with an extension and seven seater conversion and make it look like a crossover MUV like the BRV!

Since the dimensions are similar to Duster, it can't pull off the extra length convincingly for sure!

Declared value is 18.54 lakhs? Unless the Indian version of the Kaptur is significantly cheaper and retails in the 12-16 lakhs bracket, it is going to be pretty much dead on arrival.
