16 lakhs ex showroom for this one . The dashboard is nothing to talk about, not convinced how this is going to work at 16 lakhs+. Renault should start thinking beyond the 1.5 DCI engines for all their India cars.

The only Renault cars that I am excited about are the Renault scenic and the megane sedan. The above is more dacia.

Spotted on a testing run by a Rush Lane reader.

Quote:
The styling of the Kaptur is pretty much identical to the Captur with minor differences like bumpers with LED daytime running lights and a slightly larger grille. The Kaptur measures 4,333 mm in length (211 mm longer than the Captur), 1,813 mm in width (35 mm wider), 1,613 mm in height (47 mm taller) and has a wheelbase of 2,674 mm. Ground clearance stands at 204 mm.

I think it's the same. The TC number is the same.

Is this really 16+ lakhs? To begin with, disappointed that it is a 5 seater. Secondly, 16+ lakhs and all I get is the 1.5 DCi Diesel does the duty on the Pulse of all the cars. It does not have the "butch" factor of an SUV to be honest. Not sure how many would still go for it. But best wishes to Renault on its endeavour.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

16+ lakhs for what is nothing but a dressed up Duster/Lodgy would be day light robbery. Renault should look to discontinue the 110 Duster and have it replaced with this at the same price point. Duster should then be positioned to compete with the likes of Brezza and Ecosport with the 85 bhp avatar.

The Kaptur/Captur does look good from the outside and may be that's making the Renault folks to think that this can compete or out sell the Creta if priced on par with it.

Any news on the launch time line? Can we expect a launch by June 2017? This car is on my shortlist to replace my 6 year i20.

What surprises me is how poor the interiors of this 16+ lakhs car is. No cubby holes to put your smart phone just like in the duster. I don't see this going far at 20 Lakhs on the road. Think Hexa will be a much better alternative.

Likely to be unveiled in late 2017, a October- December time frame!

I have a feeling Renault might be pulling the plug on Duster when the Kaptur makes it here.

The Kaptur is not too different compared to the one its based on. The big problem for Renualt is that Duster is overpriced in our market and they really cannot ask for much more for the Kaptur. If the latter had 7 seats, it would have been a nice USP, but that doesn't look to be the case.

True. They have a very narrow margin to price the Kaptur. The Duster is priced a couple of lakhs below with segment leader Creta. The Kaptur ideally should be able to compete with the Creta closer than the Duster owing to fresher design and better quality.

Any higher than Creta means it falls into Hexa, XUV territory which is full sized 7 seater and will have a very tough time.

Renault needs to understand that and go right against the Creta not above it.

Renault is working on a 7 seat Duster (Global) and will likely be launched here too. Also Renault has made known it will go after Vitara Brezza with a sub 4m CUV.

In wake of above it looks like the existence of the existing Duster is questionable.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

Sources from ET Auto confirm that Renault India will be launching the Kaptur SUV in the third quarter of FY2017 (October-December 2017).

Quote:
Renault Captur which is sold in European markets is very different to the Kaptur which is heading to India. The former is based on the Clio platform and has different dimensions than the latter. Renault Kaptur which was showcased in Russia is based on the Duster’s platform and measures 4333 mm in length which is 210 mm longer than the Captur. The car will not benefit from the sub-4 meter subsidy but Renault India is not targeting that anyway.

We also expect the company to be aggressive with this product and also offer an automatic gear box and a four-wheel drive at launch or introduce it a bit later. Expect Renault India to put in at least 80% of localized content on its Kaptur as it will look to gain some big volumes with this car.

With the likes of Jeep Compass & Isuzu MU-X arriving India in 2017 expected in the same price bracket (15-20Lakhs) - Kaptur would be a lost cause, if priced anything above the Duster.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

It does make sense for Renault to bring the Kaptur (don't know whether it'll be called Captur here) to India. The Duster is a highly capable machine, but it is beginning to show its age now, and the Dacia-derived interiors don't do it justice at all!

There's only so much one or more facelifts can do to the Duster. It desperately needs a complete revamp inside and out, which is what the Kaptur essentially translates to - a new "top hat" on the Duster platform with fresh interiors.

Renault should not get over-optimistic with the pricing. It should be priced against the Creta or slightly below it, variant for variant. An new "top hat" & interiors on an existing platform shouldn't cost too much to develop, and can be priced very competively (like the Tiago, which has new engines as well!)

Renault can carry over the existing engines, so that the Kaptur can rival the Creta with one petrol & two diesels. They'll have to do something about the hard clutch in the 110 PS diesel, and also discard the Easy-R automated manual in favour of an automatic. The 1.2 TCe turbo-petrol (with both MT & AT) would be a nice inclusion to the range, either as an addition to, or as a replacement of the current 1.6 NA petrol.

The current Duster can be entirely discontinued in India, along with its badge-engineered twin. Nissan can replace their Terrano with their own Kicks, which would be another worthy contender in this class.
