re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

1) I don't mind the position of the start stop button on the Captur, one will get used to it pretty soon. The best one is the integration in Skoda - the same place as the traditional keyhole.
2) What I do not like is how the whole dashboard looks in these photographs and videos. That rectangular piece which houses the touchscreen and ACC looks like an afterthought. And it lacks both aesthetic and functional appeal.
3) Have commented on the instrument cluster before, but can't help but say it again. It looks too small and cluttered for such a big vehicle. ACC console can also be added to that list now. The MID also looks old and basic.
4) The Captur looks really spacious inside. And since its based on the Duster, it should ride and handle well too. But I have a feeling it will sink like the Lodgy if Renault isn't super aggressive with the pricing.
5) Frugal Innovation will work for the lower segments, but it is hard when you are looking at the higher segments. Hopefully Renault is serious about safety this time around.
6) And I also confused by Renault' nomenclature:
Captur is the compact and much more modern crossover for the developed markets based on the Clio.
Kaptur is what we are getting here along with other developing markets based on the Duster. It is much bigger but looks and feels old.
Wonder why Renault is calling it Captur and not the Kaptur here then. It is easy to look beyond that name!

Renault teases Kaptur CUV; to be launched this year as the Captur

The exterior design seems alright. Just what the market wants. DRLs, and diamond cut alloys.

The MPV stance is clear. Does not quite look an SUV.

Interiors do not look exciting. Clearly the plastic around the ICE and the start/ stop button really looks cheap.

Start- stop button placement. What was Renault thinking?

The rear seat armrest looks placed extremely high.Ergonomics has never been Renault's strength.

Boot looks tiny.

Instrument cluster looks confusing and very in your face. The large digital speedometer might be distracting.

The central air con vents look tiny. Didn't like the design for the air con controls as well. Looks a little childish in my opinion.
What are the switches where the ignition should have been?
Steering with just a couple of control buttons looks malnourished. The Compass has more dummies that the Captur's buttons.
So no AMT and AWD to start off with.

Not sure about the ride quality, can it be an alternative to the aged Duster? Not sure.

Forget the Creta, they have to start prices closer to the Ertiga and top off probably lower than the Verna.

It's actually bigger than Duster but soft nose and Renaults expressive new design means it looks smaller.

Combining Duster strengths (ride, rugged, engines) in attractive clothes Renault might be on to winner with Captur. Auto gearbox needed though.

210mm GC . That's a crazy amount of ground clearance on #Captur. Children can walk under it!

Renault Captur booking opens today at Rs 25,000

Looks neat and proportionate. Interiors looks more or less like Duster. I can see plastic all around. They should take some inspiration from Fluence. It has classy and minimalist interior design.

While the exterior looks nice-ish, the interior is as welcoming as a cow shed.

That starter button positioning though

Why does Renault insist on making hideous & crappy interiors! It's the same case throughout their range. Whether it's the Kwid or the Fluence, they've always had sub-par interiors. Sucks. And, why no AT Renault? Won't sell much IMO.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

Renault planning to tap India market by exterior gimmicks like LED head/tail lamps, Integrated LED turn indicators, DRL's etc.

Interior's will be the real deal breaker for many. This car may not see much success unless they undercut the Creta significantly. Unfortunately Renault is going to place this above Duster. One more DOA(dead on arrival) in the making certainly.

On the contrary to the comments, even a 500 monthly dispatches will be considered a success given that Renault has to make very minimal investment for this project. At the end of day, India is a country with a population in Billions and Renault should not have any problem in finding 500 customers monthly.

On the contrary, I am pretty optimistic. Why only 500 units?
  • The exterior is stylish (French Flair).
  • The interior is acceptable (similar "French" Flair).
  • Crash Worthiness is being claimed (Ok, there is no guarantee for this, But still.)
  • The underpinnings are old school and robust.
  • The diesel mill is acceptable.

I don't see too many reasons, why it should not succeed.
Of course, a poor pricing strategy could kill it, in one stroke.

Of course it has the capability to sell more. My assumption is based on the numbers the Duster churns out. So my estimate is bit conservative. I see so many comments against this, which I do not deny. But Renault knows there will be people who will buy just for those blings.

First drive videos posted by Sid Patankar on the C&B Facebook page here
https://www.facebook.com/cnbshow/

Quick impressions from him:
* Steering feedback is good. Ride is similar to duster
* Drive is smooth
* Mid-range torque punchy
* NVH - Similar growl to Duster, but sound damping is good

There's also an interview he did with the Renault India CEO yesterday, which you can find if you scroll down the page.

Captur looks really stylish! Exterior design is awesome & interiors are practical. Lot of options for customization from Renault. Most of the competitors doesn't have it! It's too early to comment on success or failure of this product. Everything depends on pricing. If they price it close to Creta, they have a clear winner in their hands. Good luck Renault

ACI Captur gallery confirms that it is indeed SRS and not SRP. I am not sure about the size of the airbags though.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

Though the car looks much better than the dated duster, i still don't find it as premium as Creta(forget Jeep compass!!)

It all boils down to the pricing i feel. If they dont get too adventurous and under cut Creta prices, it might sell in decent numbers but still it might be a challenge to de-throne Creta
