Mod Note: Our Captur Report has been taken live at this link (Renault Captur : Official Review). Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Renault Kaptur-based crossover India bound. Expected to be positioned above the Duster in India and could be not badged 'Kaptur'.

The new crossover will be based on the popular Duster's platform; will be aimed at emerging markets and could get five- and seven-seat variants.

Quote:
Renault has released a first teaser image of its new Kaptur crossover which is based on the design and style of the slightly smaller Captur sold in Europe. As seen in the spy photo, Renault has started testing the new model (Codename: HHA) and what's evident is that the new model comes with a slightly longer wheelbase. This points to greater space on the inside and enough room for a third row of seats that are very popular in emerging markets like Brazil, Russia and India.
Quote:
The new Renault crossover is likely to use underpinnings from Renault and Dacia's M-Zero platform which is slightly longer and is created especially for longer models like the Lodgy that need to be built on a tight budget. This model will come with a slightly more powerful 1.5-litre diesel engine, while transmission choices could include five- and six-speed manuals and a six-speed AMT Easy-R single-clutch automatic

It's kind of contradicting - Kaptur-based cross-over, based on the Duster platform; but Kaptur is not based on the Duster

Here are the official pics of Kaptur for Russia .

Quote:
Kaptur (baptism written "K" so far confirmed only for Russia) measures 4.33 meters long (21 cm longer than the Snap), 1.81 m wide (4 cm), 1.61 m tall (5 cm extra) and 2.67 metres distance between centres (about 7 cm). In addition, the trunk also grew (387 10 liters more liters) and the clearance from the ground jumped to 204 mm. The measures are a result of the adoption of the platform of the Duster

The SUV definitely looks nice. I do find a bit Nexon (or vice versa) on this car. Would be a nice addition from Renault in the Indian market, but hope they don't take an unrealistic price route with this car. They may not get away this time.

If they bring it in through the CBU route, then I guess it would be the Koleos story repeated. They need to work towards getting it more for the local markets.

This is a re-badged version of the hugely popular Nissan Qashqai. Sharing Nissan's underpinnings with a Renault skin wasn't much of a problem in Europe. I'm skeptical about it's value pricing if launched in India.

Renault's Kaptur gets AWD for Russia!
The new Renault crossover will first hit showrooms in Russia, followed by markets like Brazil and India.

The Russian-spec model also gets optional AWD system which shares the independent rear suspension with the Duster 4X4. It gets a generous 204mm ground clearance which will an added bonus when off-roading.

For India the 'Kaptur' will be placed above the Duster. ( Name could be changed for India)
This model will come with a slightly more powerful 1.5-litre diesel engine, while transmission choices could include five- and six-speed manuals and a six-speed AMT Easy-R single-clutch automatic.

Looks like Renault is about to do that, AMT on a car expensive than the Duster, though these might be speculation

BTW there is a lot of similarities in design language between the Kaptur and the Nexon, isn't it?

My bad, thanks. Captur's the Nissan Juke and not the Qashqai.

re: The Renault Captur SUV. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 9.99 lakhs

Makes sense, the Duster has its merits as a basic honest rugged machine but it cannot hack it with the Creta in terms of features etc.

The Kaptur has a lot more style, coupled with trusty Duster mechanicals, it could be a winner and also profitable
