Diesel is subsidized to be used in public transportation and farming sector so that costs don't go up. Normal personal car buyers should not have access to subsidized diesel.

India should follow the UK rule - subsidized diesel has a reagent mixed with it which when burned, gives off red smoke. If personal cars use this they are penalized. Something similar should be done in India. Subsidized diesel for farming and bus/train, all small cars must use unsubsidzed diesel. This shall lower or remove the price gap, and automatically people shall buy more petrol cars.
