re: Scoop Pics! Maruti Alto 800 Facelift caught. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.49 lakhs

It's nice to see the provision for fog lamps in the front bumper, which was sorely lacking in the pre-facelift model. However, they could have done better by offering fog lamps as standard on the top variant. Not only are they very useful in fog & rain, but they also help in noticing potholes on bad/unknown roads. I guess front fog lamps will be offered as a dealer-fitted original accessory on the facelifted version. The beefier rear bumper from the Alto k10 would have been a nice addition.

Renault (with the Kwid) and possibly Datsun (with the Redi-GO) may have got Maruti Suzuki to rethink strategy for their best-seller in a way that Hyundai (with the Eon) couldn't. It's good that the A-segment which was stagnating (compared to the rest) has been shaken up by the flamboyant debut of Renault's Kwid. It's only a matter of time before we get stuff like Bluetooth connectivity on cars like the Alto & Eon.

The variant in the opening post is Lxi (Mid). I guess foglamps will be offered as standard on Vxi (Top) or optional variants with safety features.

re: Scoop Pics! Maruti Alto 800 Facelift caught. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.49 lakhs

but sorry the facelift seems just for namesake, a typical Maruti trait to tweak some bits here and there and call it a facelift. Expected one with some cladding or add on bits to take on the Kwid. Speaking of facelift in this case it seems that they have made some changes only in its face (front).

Anyway if this is the weapon to arrest its downward sale against the Kwid, then sorry there would be further erosion in their market share (last month's sales slipped to 16000 from over 22000+) unless Renault botches it up. Also Maruti being Maruti can make a good sale of a mediocre product and get back into the game.

With the Redigo (basically a Kwid in a new skin) flanking the Kwid from the other side, the overall share of the Renault-Nissan-Datsun would just go up and away.

ACI reviews the updated Alto,

On the safety front, Maruti offers a driver airbag as an option on all trims.

The basic design of the car, as you can see, remains more or less the same. This means, the Alto 800’s original styling, which includes the petal-shaped high-mounted headlights, a thick C-pillar, and the slightly flared wheel arches are still there. Also, at the rear, details like the crystal-like tail-lights and some sculpting seen on the hatch are carried forward.

The updated Alto receives major changes to its nose. The front bumper that houses the grille is new. The grille is smaller now and is more of a thin horizontal slit that runs from headlight to headlight; below this sits the Suzuki logo. The headlights now get amber turn indicators in place of the clear-lens units that were part of the earlier model. Also, the trapezoidal shape of the air dam has been given a 180-degree flip which makes the car look slightly wider than before. The updated Alto 800 now gets the provision for front fog lamps, which were missed in the earlier model. However, these will be sold separately as an optional accessory. In contrast, the top-spec versions of the Nano and the Kwid get them as standard fitments. The Alto facelift at 3,430mm is now slightly longer than the pre-facelift car which measured 3,395mm. However, apart from that, the Alto 800’s dimensions remain unchanged.

On the inside, the refreshed Alto 800 gets a new fabric for the seats and door pads, and that’s about it. The base variant now gets a new shade for the seats and a passenger side wing mirror, while the higher trims get more storage at the back and a child-safety lock (LXi and VXi trims), and remote entry as well for the top-spec Alto 800 VXi. Apart from this, standard features on the Alto 800 VXi include front power windows, a rear spoiler, central locking and full wheel caps.

re: Scoop Pics! Maruti Alto 800 Facelift caught. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.49 lakhs

Definitely the Kwid effect! Saw the last month's sales figure and Kwid has already entered the top 10 whereas Alto's sales fell quite a bit. Even after this mere facelift, I don't think the car can damage the Kwid much as the latter is much better looking product with more equipment on offer. Where Maruti Scores is in terms of pricing and after sales service but then again if a perspective customer is getting much more of a car in terms of both features and equipment then definitely it's worth the money. One thing I noticed in this segment is perspective customers doesn't car about the power or performance of the vehicle, as long as acceleration is good enough in the city with a decent fuel efficiency they are going to buy it. The Datsun RediGo too will be an excellent alternative to Alto. I strongly feel the days of Alto are over, customers have much better options available in the market now but then again it's going to sell thanks to huge dealership network even in Tier One cities.

While I have to appreciate Maruti's effort at keeping the Alto fresh, I can't help but feel that the pre facelift car looked way better.

Regardless, it will continue to sell like hot cakes.

Scoop Pics! Maruti Alto 800 Facelift caught

It's right time for Tiago to go for the kill. Not sure why and what are Tata Motors waiting for.

I remember Renault hiring a huge billboard right opposite Bimal Motors on ITPL road, innovatively advertising the infotainment system in the Kwid. They surely captured eye balls who ever went into Bimal looking for an Alto or 800.

Tata should market their lower end Revotron better.
They can surely achieve 6-7K sales a month.

I quite like the new front end. A bit more wider rubber and the Alto will look much nicer.

Is the K10 and AMT getting this face-lift?

Yeah.. Quite possible. As a reaction to the Kwid 1.0 may be.

Also new in this facelift is, the passenger door map pocket.

The Alto K10 features a different design so right now no it will not see any changes though it might get a facelift and a few more equipment in the coming weeks after the launch of Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT. Then again don't expect the K10 facelift anytime soon, you may see a special edition around October and a facelift around November Mid - December.

IMO Still the ugliest hatch in the segment. Maruti Designers should definitely think about removing the "factory made dents" on this car

I agree with you, wasn't a big fan of the new Alto, it looked liked it had been designed by an engineer - all function & no form.

Didn't really think Maruti could make the design worse, but they have proven me wrong - all that has been changed is the front bumper & they've managed to make it even more weird looking than before.

I don't think Maruti & Suzuki have any designers on their staff, it's only engineers masquerading as designers or something

Decades of bland designs & even more ridiculous "limited editions" have convinced me that the original Swift was a one-off, a flash in the pan, which is why Maruti has shied away from changing it for more than a decade.

They can do engines, handling, & general engineering, but don't have a single bone for design in themselves...

Wonder what happened to the announcement which came out sometime ago that MSIL will equip all its vehicles with an LHS ORVM as well! Guess some things don't change unless arm-twisting is done via legislation. Sad to see our biggest car-maker still trying to save a few hundred rupees on a 3 lakh rupee car by omitting an ORVM.

During my time at MSIL, among the many cost-saving suggestions that we submitted, providing an LHS ORVM was one of the suggestions I kept on sending every other month. Almost all the cost-saving suggestions which were found viable, were implemented. But adding the LHS ORVM - never got a response for that! Disappointed to see that nothing has changed after so many years.

The facelift has LHS ORVM factory fitted as well, which can be seen in the opening post (Lxi variant) also. I think the picture posted by you confused you. The silver car on the left is pre-facelift version.
