Good move.

For approximately, 15.5 Lacs on road in Mumbai, this is one of the best automatic diesel 7 seaters you can buy.

This variant is cheaper than the Hyundai Creta A/T!

Re: Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT launched at Rs. 14.29 lakh

The two test mules that ran Chennai to Pune were a W6 FWD and W8 AWD, but what was launched was W8 FWD and W10 in both AWD and FWD. looking at M&M pattern I'm waiting for the W8 AWD to be launched.

This is cheaper than the Creta, albeit with possibly lesser features? But this should probably result in some switch over from the Creta, if the buyers are made aware that is!!!

Wow, Thats a great move there, I feel only if they would have brought the automatic while introducing the, "New Age XUV", I am sure the response would have been much better, It might have eaten up some of creta's sales also till now, But well good to see a they brought the Automatic in W6 too.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT launched at Rs. 14.29 lakh

Very interesting launch. As per Carwale, this is 50K cheaper than the Creta Diesel AT looking at the Navi Mumbai prices. A quick glance at the W6 feature list shows that it is a pretty well loaded variant and does not miss too much as compared to the Creta feature wise. At the same time you get a big powerful 7 seater with a better AT box and all 4 disc brakes. Need to see if other safety stuff like Hill Assist and ESC are included in the AT variant (not present in regular W6)

Will not match the overall refinement of the Creta of course, but I think it will definitely pull some Creta customers.

An excellent move by Mahindra.
It may be slightly behind the Creta in terms of features and fit and finish, but you get a full fledged SUV with a larger engine at the same price point. Unless someone does not want to buy a Mahindra or specifically wishes to go for a compact SUV, the XUV is the one to go for.

Honda is asking 12.23L for the BRV CVT, the only other 7 seater automatic option in the price range, despite being a petrol and barely feature loaded.

Nice move from Mahindra. They should be able to cash in some of the interest generated by the BRV.

Not Just from BRV, a few from Innova might sway too. Autobox in 3 variants from Mahindra is a move in the right direction.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT launched at Rs. 14.29 lakh

Super excellent move by Mahindra. At 50K less than Creta money, this would definitely effect Creta which is way too overpriced. And Hyundai did not bother to give something as basic as power-folding ORVMs on a 17-lakh car. Coming to XUV, it comes with Japanese Aisin AT box which is probably world's best torque converter box. Very proven box with seamless smooth shifts.

Mahindra should plonk same AT box in Scorpio, too. The present Aussie DSI box just cannot hold candle to this Japanese one.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT launched at Rs. 14.29 lakh

Brilliant move my Mahindra. Will definitely pull customers who are in the bracket 14-16 lakhs and looking for a AT SUV. One thing which I dont understand is that how Mahindra is able to keep such small difference in price of Manual mode and Automatic mode (For W8 variant of AT and Manual the difference is around 10k only). Whereas other brands keep a huge difference to the tune of 1 Lakh. Dont know how Mahindra is managing this but simply a no brainer to go for AT over the Manual version now in case of XUV.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT launched at Rs. 14.29 lakh

Although I wish Mahindra would focus on fit, finish and reliability a bit more than being a new variant/ type production mill, this is a great move.

Are we likely going to see a more powerful engine in W10 or W8 or AWD variants in the future?

The AT is limited to the 2.2 engine and is not available with the 1.99 version. The XUV automatic continues to remain unavailable in NCR

Re: Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT launched at Rs. 14.29 lakh

Mahindra deserves a lot of credit for this launch. Seems to me that they want to strengthen their foothold in the segment.

Hopefully they're ready with a lof of units as I think the people put off the waiting periods of the Creta might drift towards the XUV 500. It also has the potential to attract a lot of potential BR-V customers.

By no means is W6 is a poorly loaded variant. Get ready to see a lot of ads in the paper/multimedia.
