I kept the civic ,despite family pressure to sell owing to its low seating, just due to its fantastic drive on open roads. Finally sold it off in 2016, done just 54k Kms.

Compare that to the Innova ( 1.24L kms/sold) & Fortuner (1.11 l kms , still strong), and you get the drift, why the civic died down from the market. The lack of low end torque & the ever increasing prices didn't help much too.

Now looking forward to buy a Petrol Civic again.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

The new Civic seems to be much wider than the one sold in India. Given the narrow road conditions the present Civics dimensions were much suited to Indian conditions. The new Civic seems to have the Accord dimensions while the Acord has grown even bigger. I doubt the new Civic will hit the sales nos of the old one.

The Accord at close to 30l price tag already has poor sales. The Civic if launched here would be the new Accord and unless Honda gets the price right which I am sure it won't I dont think the Civic will be a hit in India. I would really like to be wrong here. I do not expect it start at 13l something. Even the std variant of the Corolla starts at 19l on road (Mumbai).

Couldn't agree more. Best quality City generation was the 2nd one, the dolphin shaped model. Even today after 10-12 years of usage most cars that I see on the roads still look new. The 1st gen Jazz also had the same good quality build. The 3rd gen City was better to drive but quality came down a bit. The 2014 City was the worst iteration of the brand in terms of quality. Still if someone buys the City, it would be for the sweet 1.5 L iVtech which though suffers from low lower end torque but being a light car, doesn't bother much.
So for me it doesn't make any sense to buy a diesel Honda. That engine is very much drivable but lacks in punch and sounds, vibrates like hell.
Same or similar engine in a prestigious brand like the Civic is a complete no-no.
You want a Civic but your running is too high, get the Elantra diesel. If you really want a Civic, go for the petrol one.

Honda Civic spotted in India . Likely to be shown at the 2018 Auto Expo .

It is too early to speculate a launch but chances are bright for Honda to launch it in India!

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

That looks er.. hideous? Definitely reminds me of the old CRX from the back. None of the elegance and lots of boy-ricer. They don't make a sedan anymore? I'm sure it's a fun to drive vehicle and whatnot but that design is probably going to target a very very niche segment of mid-life crisis guys.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

That seems to be the 2013 or 2014 Civic Hatchback and may be owned by one of the Expats working at Honda.

Honda never had plans for the Civic Hatchback for the Indian Market. I believe the Civic Sedan is in line for a 2018 Auto Expo launch.

All similarities might be coincidental, but...

Look carefully at the pic:

Honda Civic likely to return to India-civic_story_647_062117014709.jpg

It's a LHD variant.

Same was spotted by a GaadiWaadi spy last year.

Same car?

BTW, we will be getting the sedan version.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

The all-new Civic would be manufactured at Honda's Greater Noida plant, as per a report in the Hindustan Times.

Quote:
The most convincing answer Honda could give us was: “Soon may be. We are getting a lot of enquiries. We are finishing our assessment. It takes time.”Market speculations say the new version would come around the festive season later this year or during the Delhi Auto Expo in February 2018.
Multiple HCIL personnel told HT the model spotted at the Honda factory was imported from Japan for “research purposes only”, “to evaluate the parts” and “testing”. It could be this specimen that would be replicated to make the future Civics for India.
HT also learnt that the new Civic would be made at Honda’s Greater Noida factory, where the carmaker produces the premium sports utility vehicle CR-V, the compact urban hatchback Brio, the compact sedan Amaze and the new Honda City.
Launch at the 2018 Auto Expo? Seems very likely.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

A good read on what most of us have observed and lamented about Honda over the past few years - https://www.reuters.com/investigates...da-innovation/.
Seems like things are turning around for the better with the Civic winning the 2016 North American Car of the year. Hoping the iconic Honda engineering, quality and innovation of the late 20th century makes a strong comeback
Looking forward to the relaunch of Civic in India next year.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

An article in overdrive on the india bound 2018 CIVIC. The engine options, specially the 1.5L turbo charged with 182 PS sounds exciting, but the infotainment console as projected in the article, is a huge let down !
