Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

Having had a Civic AT with paddles shifters in the family a decade ago, and the way that car took one's breath away with it's design, this launch feels so tame in comparison..

1. The D segment is dying. This is another car which will fight the Corolla/Elantra in a static/shrinking pie.

2. People who will want to buy an Octavia or an RS for driving pleasure will anyway not bother with this lame 1.8. The TSIs were superior a decade ago, they are even better now.

3. If at all Honda wanted to play in this segment, they could've launched the 1.5 T/SI/type R to try and fight the Octy 1.8/VRS for performance/bragging rights.

Anyway, given that this thread was languishing in page 3 of the main thread before my reply, it's going to be a big yawn inducing launch anyway.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

Feb. 2019 launch !! What is Honda thinking. Isn't the next generation Civic due in 2021 ! All this effort for just 2 years. Surely in India, we will know when a new generation is available overseas and we wont buy an older generation car.
Also at an Expected price of 20-24 Lakhs, people expect to buy the latest.
Surprising move by Honda to delay it as long as they have.

There will always be Honda fans who will willingly buy this model even if it's two years for EOL. Nothing wrong with that. Some people believe in certain brands and feel comfortable committing to the brand even if it's not the latest avatar.

Honda, and to an extent other players, do launch older models in emerging markets extensively. This way they can milk that supply chain and tooling investment a lot more and gain a significant profit with minimal investments.

And why not!

Looking at the way Honda is working in India, the new gen Civic of 2021 will not be available in India for at-least 2 more years after the global launch. So in effect they will milk the older model as much as they can (if they do launch it) and only when the sales drop to very low numbers they will come up with an update

Honda Civic likely to return to India

So, the annoying this about this impending launch is the choice of petrol engine - 1.8 liter that has been soldiering along for well over a decade (2004/5 onwards). Also, no diesel automatic. So, if one wants an automatic Civic, he'll have to do with the 1.8 + CVT combo, which makes for S-L-O-W and uninspiring car.

I've travelled a number of times to countries where Civic is available, and I, for one think that the new design brings back a lot of old Civic's charm back! But this third world treatment of India is completely unacceptable.

Honda if you still have chance to make adjustments to plans - bring in the 1.5T engine. After all, Honda = smooth petrols = Cracking turbos (in this day an age)!!
