Maruti Suzuki recalls 20,427 units of S-Cross over faulty brakes

Maruti has recalled about 20,000 units of the S-Cross. This hasn't got anything to do with the 1.6 L diesel facing problem with emission in the EU.
Quote:
Maruti has issued a recall campaign for the S-cross. The carmaker has recalled the 120hp S-cross 1.6 and the 90hp 1.3-litre version and says that the recall has been issued due to a "suspected fault" and to replace a brake part.

As many as 20,427 units of S-cross manufactured between April 20, 2015 and February 12, 2016 are part of this voluntary recall exercise.

Article says S-Cross manufactured from April 2015 to Feb 2016 is recalled. But S-Cross was not even launched in April 2015.

This one is straight from the horse's mouth - check out the screenshot.

EDIT: Just checked with my car's VIN, it says my car does not need attention. My car was manufactured 30th March 2016.

Well, Maruti has put it up on its Nexa website.

It should have been August 20 instead. My S-Cross is April 2016 batch and not under recall

So that is the first recall for a new vehicle.

Do we appreciate Maruti for being forthright and putting it out publicly or do we question them about the QC activities that caused this faulty brake part.

All the same, it is good to see them telling it as it is openly.

Members whose cars are under this recall, please do update us regarding the actions taken with respect to this recall.

Always. Voluntary recalls should be welcomed with arms wide open.

They could have done it silently during service as well, and many people could have missed the update. Now atleast all our members are aware and able to track it down.

Oh, come on! Don't be so critical. Even Toyota, whose quality is extremely good, has been involved in large scale recalls.

Every manufacturer recalls when a part which was designed to perform a specific task won't do so and could pose a risk to user and other road users.

Recalls are just a part of automobile industry. You have to accept them.
When they announce one, check whether your car needs attention- and if it does, take it to the service station at the earliest.

Ok, so mine is a part of the recall. I will try and schedule an appointment next week and update here.

I apologise for the format of the wording which made it look like I was too critical.

I was just putting out a question as to what should the reaction be having seen both types of reactions for previous recalls.

I really do appreciate Maruti for announcing a recall publicly.

As of now I don't have an S Cross but definitely do intend get one as it seems to meet all my requirements and will be on top of my list when I go in for a new car some time next year.

Not nitpicking, but April 2015 manufactured cars would have hit the delivery bay by August 2015 only. So, the dates are correct.

Most probably recall starts from the very first batch of vehicles.

Re: Maruti Suzuki recalls 20,427 units of S-Cross over faulty brakes

Appreciate Maruti announcing such a recall. Has increased my trust in them.

My car is one of the cars that will require this brake part replacement.
Called Kothari Wheels (Chinchwad,Pune) Service guy and he has no idea. Says they have not received anything yet. What a bummer. Guess all dealers need to have a TBHP account first.

Now, I am not sure which part is this. Guess it might be the entire calliper? I for sure will be most impacted. I have painted the callipers red. God!

Well, in fairness, a recall in itself is not bad. A manufacturer trying to fix something pro-actively is not a bad thing.
However, it is the lack of sufficient communication which spoils the sentiment.
Every recall should be made public through proper channel, with atleast the below info captured:
1. What is the fault?
2. Consequences of the fault (Long term & short term)?
3. Risks & priority of the recall.
4. Which component will be addressed?
5. Time that would be taken to fix.
6. Batch/Vehicles affected.

Re: Maruti Suzuki recalls 20,427 units of S-Cross over faulty brakes

Update on the campaign,

Maruti Suzuki India will be replacing a brake component, which was potentially deemed as faulty, in the S-Cross.

Quote:
Apparently the brake caliper was leaking a bit of oil onto the rotors. There was also a warning sign which was displayed on the meter console. This service campaign covers both the variants of the S-Cross (the DDiS 200 and DDiS 320).
Same was confirmed by the SA, a few instances of sweating noticed at the rear caliper.

Re: Maruti Suzuki recalls 20,427 units of S-Cross over faulty brakes

Looks everyone is happy with this recall.

It is a welcome note to see the recalls in our country. It means that manufacturers are seriously taking Indians as a customer and not a NEEDY USERS.

But Maruti is not condition to make such type of recalls. They are already struggling to make stable place in premium (higher C & D segment) and still under test.

There was already a recalls for CIAZ for gear issue (hydraulic issue it was actually) and senior Baleno and SX4 did not have good market response. All BHPians and people involved in TAXi business knows about faulty gear box in their diesel cars.

Let us see when maruti recalls for gear box replacement in their Diesel Baleno, SCross and Breeza.
