Re: Fire at compressor vendor unit of Maruti. Production affected

A cousin of mine is looking for a new car in the 10-11 Lakh range, initially he was going in for the Vitara Brezza though today itself he got a call from his dealer that the car's waiting period has increased to 10 months! He was going in for the ZDi trim. Now, ended up booking the Ford Ecosport 1.5 Titanium Plus, delivery in just a week.
Maruti Suzuki India should stop taking in further bookings for both Baleno and Vitara Brezza now and focus on clearing the current demand. A friend waited for more than 2 months for his Baleno Petrol 1.2 Alpha but there was no sign of delivery, he ended up buying the Elite i20! Instead of disappointing the customers, they should stop the booking for a few days clear the back log a bit, improve the production capacity and network further and restart the bookings.

What's going on, and wrong with Maruti and Suzuki?

The following news says Suzuki has halted production in its Japanese plants owing to an explosion in one of its suppliers!

Maruti Suzuki advances plant maintenance closure by three weeks to June 6, earlier scheduled from June 27th to July 2nd to June 6th to 11th.

Quote:
This will enable the closure period to be utilized for arranging supply of components, both from Subros Limited as well as from other sources, and result in higher production volumes after the closure,

"Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) will shut down its manufacturing plants for regular bi-annual maintenance from June 6-11. The maintenance shutdown was earlier scheduled from June 27 - July 2, but Maruti Suzuki has decided to advance the schedule, without giving any reasons."

This is clearly to address the supply issue of Subros, I guess. Though production was restarted, there seems to be some serious damage to the Subros facility, and all temporary arrangements seem to be inadequate.

Maruti Suzuki resumes production after maintenance closure.

The firm had advanced its maintenance closure due to the fire at Subros after which supply of car AC units had stopped.

Quote:
Subros, Maruti's biggest supplier of AC units has stepped up supplies to the car maker from other plants after the fire damage to its Manesar plant. Other suppliers have also ramped up supplies.

Is this only for Manesar Plant or even the Gurgaon Plant? Have they conducted shutdown at the Gurgaon Plant yet?

Their preponing of maintenance shutdown was sure a calling time for vendors catering to their maintenance activities. We supply maintenance chemicals to MSIL paint shops and last 15 days have been no short of a havoc. Each paint shop consumed on an average 5 times their regular consumption and there are four such shops in Manesar. Gurgaon plant however hasn't yet called for maintenance quantities.

Both their plants have completed the annual maintenance schedules and have resumed production today.

Re: Fire at compressor vendor unit of Maruti. Production affected

Vitara Brezza and Baleno waiting periods would go up momentarily but would be on track (to existing levels)soon.

Current production is more than 90%.

Quote:
The total amount of production loss — which has occurred and which will occur in the next few days because we are not fully utilising 100 per cent capacity — to be about 30,000 vehicles. And we expect to make up this loss in the course of the next few months. So overall we don’t expect any loss this year.

Re: Fire at compressor vendor unit of Maruti. Production affected

Though production has started it is @ 90% capacity now,

3 models are not yet taken for production are Ertiga , Ciaz and S Cross. Expect lower numbers of these 3 model in June sales numbers!

High waiting period models like Baleno and Vitara Brezza are given top priority.

Re: Fire at compressor vendor unit of Maruti. Production affected

Factory of key Maruti Suzuki supplier gutted - production likely to be affected.
India Japan Lighting is a key supplier of head lamps and tail lamps to Maruti Suzuki India.

Initial reports suggest that there were no casualties, but the fire is said to have gutted the factory.
Quote:
To be sure, demand for Maruti Suzuki cars are at an all-time high and the company is already struggling with capacity constraints to meet demand. In such a scenario, the fire will further affect Maruti’s production plans.

I don't think overall production will be impacted much. Primarily because India Japan Lighting supplies for only certain models and Maruti has stock for 2 days. Hence, they can shift production capacity to other models.

Re: Fire at compressor vendor unit of Maruti. Production affected

This would mean longer waiting times for some customers. This is bad timing as demand would be all time high during Diwali period. Maruti should have at least 2-3 vendors or one vendor should have multiple plants to mitigate the risks
