The pricing is plain stupid. Why did Honda even bother launching the Accord? At a cost of 44 lakhs on the road in Mumbai, most people would choose the luxury Germans. |
So true. Honda has been goofing up pretty badly since the past few years. While most improve quality with a new generation of car, Honda went ahead and degraded it in the 4th Generation City.
On the pricing of Honda Accord, it will be close to 42 lakhs ex-showroom in Mumbai including octroi (It touches 41 lakhs ex-showroom in Navi Mumbai) which means it will almost touch 50 lakhs OTR. Plain ridiculous whichever way one looks at it. A few more lakhs and one can easily get a 520d post discounts :D
I think Honda got it here only as a show piece probably for the sake of maintaining snob value of Honda brand over other Japanese brands.
Otherwise why would they go via CBU route?
What? Why did they even bother? Was expecting a 27-30 lac ex show room max. This is way too much. CBU route is just an excuse, they should have just brought the normal petrol or diesel variants. The Passat at 27 lacs will eat this for breakfast at this price.
People don't go gaga over Hybrids in India.
Forget this, just launch a powerful Civic already! That has a cult following in India. Even the Type R. But not this
Looking at this pricing, the HERO management would be praying that the current management of Honda Cars India should also be allowed to price the future products of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India lol:
This is definitely DOA!
Back in the days when the Skoda Superb was launched, it made a mark instantly. Out selling every other direct competitor by virtue of its brilliant engineering and a diesel engine which none of its competitors could offer.
It was so good that it resulted in the Camry, Sonata and the Accord to be pulled out of production because of poor sales, need i say more?
Diesel engines are the only way to make a mark in this segment! Don't agree?
look at the sales charts and you will find the Superb selling more than twice the camry which is its only direct competitor.
Now is it that Honda and others need to build new diesel engines all together? No! its a simple plug and play, they all have diesel Engines!
Imagine this:- A petrolhead walking into a Honda showroom to have a look at the Accord, has a glance at the CR-V in a corner which has a brilliant 2.4iVtech, a 5 seater, has some generous space inside, was their flagship car until the Accord was launched! And priced MUCH LESSER than the car which he or she wanted to have a look in the first place!
You wouldn't be surprised if they chose CR-V over the Accord! Would you?lol:
Honda has completely lost it :Frustrati Hard to believe it is the same company which was a Trendsetter not so long ago.
All Their new Generation Model Designs are stale and uninspiring, Engines are the same old stuff (Hard to believe now that these were the same guys who gave us the Delicious Vtec Engine of Type2 City), Reliability and Quality levels have gone down big time from the time they ventured into Cost Cutting and Compromised Models like Amaze,Brio and BRV. And Sales of these models are also nothing speak about. And the less said about the Pricing the Better. The latest Accord Pricing is another Sad Example.
Only thing that has not gone down is the Attitude of their Dealerships. They still respond and treat Customers as if they are still Leaders in Every Segment.
Being a Hard Core Honda fan breaks my heart writing this but i wish Honda had never ventured into the Segment below City. Now they look like Rabbits caught in Headlights. Don't know what hit them and what to do
I think Honda is trying to emulate Toyota here (Innova Crysta for eg) and pricing it's product steep with a very high premium. They probably think that if the big ‘T’ can pull it off so can they. They are just pushing their luck here and I hope they get their heads back to ‘Earth’ from the clouds
For all of our head-banging on the way Honda has priced it, didn't we all do the same for the Jeep pricing? :Frustrati
What use was it, considering that the entire first batch was apparently sold out?
I'm pretty sure it's a similar case with this Accord launch too, as I remember reading somewhere that the first batch is indeed completely sold out.
To send an apt message to an OEM for bad pricing, the customers should desist from buying the product! But there are people in our country who will buy almost anything just for the exclusivity (do not intend to disparage anyone who has booked).
And hence, this point is moot. All the time and energy that we keyboard warriors spend discussing this is a waste. Might as well focus on the Hexa thread where our incessant inputs might actually be being read and considered by TML - and hence might make a difference. :D
Honda repeats history.
First, the Jazz made the i20 VFM overnight.
Next, the 'All New' CRV made XUV VFM.
Then, the Mobilio made Ertiga even more VFM.
Now, the Accord makes Camry VFM.
Good going Honda. Your competitors are so thankful to you.
Guess the pricing is due to importing it as a CBU vs the localization that Toyota did with Camry which then gave them the much needed tax cuts? Else the Camry would have been as expensive right?
The Mango man on the street, does not have the level of understanding about cars and nor does he try to acquire this knowledge before putting his/her hard earned money into a depreciating asset.
I know atleast 2 colleagues of mine who went ahead and booked an amaze just because its a 'HONDA'. They were oblivious of the cost cuttings, poor standards that this car has.
This ignorance is what is used by the companies to fetch them the dollars.
Regards
Dieseltuned
I agree this is ridiculously priced but given the relative 'success' of Jeep with their mental pricing, I will wait to watch what happens.

Looking at it from purchasing power makes it even worse for Honda.
At USD 36k, it is about 6-MONTH-salary worth for an experienced IT guy there. At INR 37l, it is 6-YEAR-salary worth for the same IT level in India. Even if we consider doubled price due to CBU, still it will be 3-YEAR-worth - 6 times what it "costs" in US. :Shockked: :Frustrati
If they want to run the company to the ground, might as well distribute their cash to us for "achhe din" sake - we have enough appetite :)

I don't think this will be the case with the Accord. There is some aspiration attached to the Jeep brand here in India. The reasons being:
1) They were not sold in India until now. Think McDonald's or Starbucks. When they launched in India for the first time, people queued up like Americans do when a new iPhone is launched. Eventually, that hype settled down and now you can find lots of seating space in both. The same will happen with Jeep. Eventually, sales will drop.
2) There are many neo-rich 'tough boys' who will see it as a step above all their Mahindra Thar owning friends. The Accord does not enjoy the same admiration in our big SUV loving country. For the same price, you can get a three pointed star that is way more appealing to the buyer.
While Honda will be able to sell the few vehicles it's imported into Ennore, they will struggle to go further than that. They might find a few buyers in hotels and rental fleet owners.

The same can be said about a quite a few cars as well.
This is a CBU import and will be priced as such. Expecting the Accord Hybrid to be priced around Rs.30L is not nothing but wishful thinking. I think I have said this before and I will say it again, Honda is not looking to see 1000's of these.
Folks complaining about the price are never the ones to buy the vehicle and are not this CBU unit's target audience.
