That said, the CBU tax structure also makes sure prices rise much steeper than in the US. 50% premium in the US would become 50% premium in prices in India + another 50% premium in taxation.

What they are selling as Limited in India is basically Laredo in Dubai. Limited in Dubai is the top most variant in 3.6 Litre engine variant and comes loaded with plethora of luxury features at par with any high end car (read BMW, Audi & Mercedes) in India including Panaromic Sunroof. Major differences between Summit and Limited is bigger engine (5.7 ltr), leather dashboard, Air suspension and multimedia screens in Headrest for rear passengers.

I beg to differ in couple of points. It wouldn't be fair to say that India is getting a Laredo in the guise of Limited. For instance, laredo doesn't come with a powered tailgate in UAE. I think Jeep has stripped certain features from Limited.

Limited comes with both 3.6-litre "Pentastar" V6 and the 5.7-litre "Hemi" V8.

Let me put it differently, it is Laredo with few more features. Equipment list of Limited is very long as it is the top most variant with 3.6 litre engine.

Rumour: Jeep India launch scheduled for August 2016

If reports doing rounds on the Internet are to be believed, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has finally decided to introduce the Jeep brand in India. Jeep will reportedly start its Indian operations on a later date in August 2016.

The American SUV maker will initially introduce the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, while other products will follow in the coming months. Jeep recently revealed specifications of the Grand Cherokee on its Indian website. It will be offered in three trim levels: Limited, Summit, and SRT.

The other product that will be introduced with Jeep's Indian entry would be the Wrangler. Jeep has officially confirmed that India would get only the five-door Wrangler, a decision taken to offer the more practical version.

The speculated replacement of the Jeep Compass, which is currently codenamed as the C-SUV, will also launch in India in the course of the next few years. Jeep also appears to be planning to launch the Renegade in India, going by its recent spy shots.

Re: Jeep reveals Indian specifications of Grand Cherokee

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler India launch on September 1, 2016.

Jeep to finally enter India with around six dealerships; SRT performance brand to debut as well.

Quote:
The retro-styled Jeep Wrangler will be sold in India only in the long wheelbase "Unlimited" trim. It will come powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine good for 197hp.
The second model from Jeep, the Grand Cherokee will for now be the mainstay for the Jeep brand in India. The manufacturer revealed details of the vehicle a few days ago on its Indian website. As per the update, the Grand Cherokee will go on sale in three trims – Limited, Summit and the high-power Grand Cherokee SRT which will also mark the debut of Jeep's "SRT" performance brand in India.

The Limited and Summit variants draw power from a 240hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Instead of the diesel unit, the high-performance SRT gets a 475hp, 6.4-litre Hemi V8 petrol motor which also comes paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All three variants come with a four-wheel-drive system, with the Grand Cherokee SRT additionally getting Brembo high-performance brakes and active damping suspension.

That's great news. Wonder when there will be any confirmation of the launch dates for the Renegade. I know a lot of people, here as well, who are keeping an eye out for it since quite some time!

Re: Jeep reveals Indian specifications of Grand Cherokee

I remotely feel the Wrangler launch is going to give some push to the Mahindra Thar! Don't ask me how!! Just look how the Avengers on the road lit up once we had the Harleys launched! Especially 750 ones! Bajaj did everything to convince users from this side of the Spectrum to believe their Avengers too had a statement to make on the road! And it worked!! I see so many Avengers on the road than anytime I did previously!

Fiat mulling multi-brand FCA dealerships for India

Fiat is planning to introduce new multi-brand FCA dealerships in India, which will sell cars from all brands of the FCA group present in the country, including Fiat, Abarth and Jeep. The first such dealership will be opened in Mumbai around this year's festive season.

Fiat India is currently going through a tough phase with its monthly sales dropping continuously. In July 2016, the Italian automaker sold just 560 cars in the country. As a result, the new multi-brand dealership strategy is a move to provide more sales potential to Fiat dealers across the country. The company hopes to convert around 80 existing Fiat dealers to multi-brand FCA outlets in order to give them a better opportunity to sell cars.

Fiat has also reworked the dealers' incentive structure to address sustainability of its authorised dealerships. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) had earlier announced that the Jeep brand will be officially launched in India on August 31, 2016.

Re: Fiat mulling multi-brand FCA dealerships for India

Selling Fiat cars besides Jeep cars will definitely bring that aspirational value to Fiat cars. I think this should certainly be able to lift the Fiat image. Also economically it's viable for Fiat to let Jeep share the floor and reuse the existing dealership network than create a new one.

This seems to be in line with Motoplex stores of Piaggio brand. Also FCA has same concept in abroad markets for Ferrari & Maseratti

So, in other words, Jeeps will be sold from Fiat dealerships.

Abarth is hardly a different car / brand and the premium Jeep will be a niche vehicle at best. It's not going to generate any volumes. Thus, it totally makes sense to sell them through the existing network (and some new Fiat-Jeep dealers). Even the dealers will be happy. One Grand Cherokee = 4 - 5 lakhs in profit. Should help with controlling the burn rate as I know a lot of Fiat dealers are running on losses.

Re: Jeep reveals Indian specifications of Grand Cherokee

Got a call from Jeep India, they would be starting with Delhi and Gujarat first, rest of the country to follow. Yes the 3 models as mentioned above and no news yet of Renegade yet.
