A heavily camouflaged mule of the 2017 Audi Q5 has been spotted testing in India. This is the first time that the next-gen luxury SUV has been spotted in the country. The new Q5 will be based on Volkswagen group's new MLB-Evo platform, which also underpins its elder sibling, the new Audi Q7. In addition to the platform, the next-gen Q5 will also be borrowing several design cues from the Q7.

The front fascia now gets a freshly designed pair of headlamps, LED DRLs, a bolder hexagonal grille and a redesigned bumper. Specifications of the 2017 Audi Q5 are still under wraps, though it is expected to borrow its powertrains from the new Audi A4. As a result, engine options on offer will include 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder, TSI and TDI blocks, with capacities ranging from 1.8-litre to 3.0-litre. These engines might come mated to 6-speed manual, 7-speed S-tronic and 8-speed Tiptronic gearboxes.

The next-gen Audi Q5 is expected to make its global premiere later this year, while an India launch will take place next year.

In the first photo, what car is trailing the Q5? Can't remember seeing those DRLs on any road car in India currently. Seems to be on red plates as well so maybe another car on test?

Anyone have a clue?

The headlight seem to be lifted directly from Audi TT. Also the car doesn't seem to have grown much in size. I may be wrong on this as its tough to make out much from the images.

Pleasantly surprised to see Audi testing its next-generation cars in India. We've seen it before too (with the new Q7 & A4, among others). Hardly any MNC car makers test global products in India. But come to think of it, we offer the best testing conditions with our broken roads, heavy traffic, heat etc.

First picture is well shot. The two-Audi convoy looks menacing & purposeful.

Saw this camouflaged Q5 in a convoy on NH8 early morning yesterday near Manor. Camouflaged front, rear, side silhouette and dashboard.

It was raining heavily and the best i could manage are these pics

I recall seeing these two cars either on 6th & 7th July or 12th & 13th July somewhere between Nalasopara and Borivali in the direction of Mumbai on Mumbai Ahmedabad highway in the morning. Had not been able to take snaps then.

I believe it to be the new Audi A4 due to launch next month. If I am not mistaken that is only other new car apart from an A3 coming out this year.

Yes Its A4. This one was camouflaged as well. Just couldn't get a good pic due to rains.

Next-gen Audi Q5 teased ahead of September 29 debut

Audi has released a teaser image of the next-gen Q5 SUV. The company has also mentioned that the new Q5 will make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show on September 29, 2016.

The teaser image just gives us a glimpse of the Q5's new tail lamps. While not much can be seen in this image, earlier spy shots have revealed that the Q5 will essentially be an evolution of the current-gen model, similar to what Audi has done with the new A4 and A5 sedans. As a result, the front is expected to get a single frame grille, which is surrounded by slimmer headlight assemblies at both ends. The side profile looks similar to that of the current model, though a few tweaks have been made to make it look a bit less bulky. The rear gets sharper tail lights, as is seen in the teaser, an integrated spoiler, and a pair of trapezoidal exhaust tips.

The new Q5 will be built on the MLB Evo platform, which also underpins the new A4 and Q7. It will thus weigh slightly lesser than the outgoing model. Powertrain options are likely to be borrowed from its sedan siblings, and will probably include petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid power plants.

A teaser video released along with the aforementioned image also points towards the possibility of the new-gen Q5 getting an MMI infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Q5 will come with a range of four-cylinder and V6 petrol and diesel options, with most engines carried over from the A4. The V6 motors are part of a new generation of enignes jointly developed between Audi and Porsche. Also planned is a plug-in hybrid version of the Q5, to satisfy the growing demand for hybrid SUVs. That model will feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine working in combination with an electric motor - it's said to have an all-electric range of up to 31 miles
