re: The Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol. EDIT - Launched @ Rs. 13.73 lakhs

Pretty pedestrian engine compared to the even the lesser powered 2.4 diesel which makes 150 odd bhp and whopping 400nm of torque from way down in the rev range. I mean 165 bhp and 250nm from a 2.7-liter engine is hardly state of the art and this engine will neither have performance nor the efficiency compared to the diesels on offer.

re: The Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol. EDIT - Launched @ Rs. 13.73 lakhs

If the Innova was coming with a modern direct-injection turbo-petrol, my comments would be different.

But this is such an old-school motor. Whatever the price, the diesels will be more impressive due to the torque & fuel economy.

I wouldn't expect anything over 8 km/l from the MT in the city (could go lower). The torque converter AT? More like 6 km/l (7 tops).

Still, the engine is ready and so is the car. No harm in offering this combination, whether for Delhi-NCR or all over India. It'll find a couple of homes every month.

I think the difference will be more. Among other things, the diesels are turbo-charged while the petrol isn't.

re: The Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol. EDIT - Launched @ Rs. 13.73 lakhs

Bookings for the Toyota Innova Crysta 2.7L petrol are now open.

Toyota India has confirmed through an official tweet that the prices of the Innova Crysta petrol will start from Rs 14.7 lakhs.

Quote:
The petrol variant of the MPV will be powered by a 2.7-litre, four-cylinder mill that has been indigenously developed by the R&D department in collaboration with Japanese engineers. The new engine will be introduced in other international markets after its official launch in India.

As far as the transmission is concerned, the petrol variant will either come with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

I don't understand this. If the engine is indigenously developed, how do you mate an automatic transmission to it? Doesn't it require extensive testing? How much time did Toyota have to test it?

So by the looks it the engine may not have been fully tested. They are panicking due to the sharp fall in the demand for Diesels. I agree with GTO it should have been a blown petrol of a smaller size, then it would have made sense.

Guess the 'indigenous' developed part is just marketing talk. The 2.7 petrol engine has been in use for ages, so no worry on the reliability front.

Only new development is that the engine has been made Dual VVTi. That's all.

The 2.7 with the Auto box has been used in the Hilux, Prado and Fortuner for years.

I was told that training for the 2.7 Petrol engine already started for Toyota service personnel at the dealership. The launch should be close then!

If the Delhi diesel ban was the only reason to have prompted Toyota to launch the petrol, I feel they should have gotten a CNG/LPG. Petrol engines for big vehicles are never too popular among us Indians.

Innova is a premium product for Toyota and CNG/LPG is mostly seen as "cheap" fuel and is often avoided due to its dryness in piston causing reduction in lubrication. CNG/LPG option will hinder Innova's premium looks and also impact its resale value.

However, I personally do not see CNG/LPG as cheap fuel and would love to see options with these.

This was announced at the outset- good to see it being launched early in the model cycle. I am sure there is demand for the Petrol Innova from the urban, chauffer driven buyers who won't probably break even with the diesel premium.

Can't wait to test-drive one.

re: The Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol. EDIT - Launched @ Rs. 13.73 lakhs

Toyota Innova Crysta petrol launched at Rs. 13.73 lakh

Toyota has launched the Innova Crysta petrol in India, with prices ranging from of Rs. 13,72,800 to Rs. 19,62,300 (ex-showroom Delhi). The car is available in exclusive colours that include Garnet Red, White Pearl Crystal Shine and Avant-garde Bronze.

The Innova Crysta petrol is powered by a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, Dual VVT-i engine that develops 163 BHP and 245 Nm of torque. This engine is offered with a choice of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic unit. Toyota claims an ARAI-certified fuel economy of 10.83 km/l for the automatic and 9.89 km/l for the manual variant.

The manual transmission is available with the Gx and Vx trims, while the automatic is offered with the Gx and Zx variants. The Innova Crysta Gx is available with a 7 or 8-seater arrangement, while the Vx and Zx get only a 7-seater layout.

Variant-wise features of the Innova Crysta petrol are identical to that of the Diesel. The top-end Zx trim comes loaded with 7 airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Start Assist Control (HSAC). Other safety equipment like ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, seat belt pre-tensioner & force limiter, and ISOFIX mounts are standard across all variants.

The new petrol variants will mark the Innova Crysta's debut in the Delhi-NCR market. Toyota was not able to sell the MPV in Delhi and NCR due to the diesel car ban imposed by the Supreme Court.

Deliveries of the Innova Crysta petrol will start from today, i.e. August 8, 2016. Variant-wise prices of the Innova Crysta petrol are as follows:

• Gx Manual - 13.73 lakh (Rs. 4,500 extra for 8-seater option)
• Gx Automatic - 14.83 lakh (Rs. 4,500 extra for 8-seater option)
• Vx Manual - 16.56 lakh
• Zx Automatic - 19.62 lakh
