Even I heard the same from my contacts who are involved. A new 1.5 litre engine with close to 300 nm torque. As of now M&M is sorting out the issues with suspension and are pushing to launch the vehicle by Feb 2018. If they manage to do it then the car might be launched in the autoexpo.

As per the article published by carblogindia this UV will have a monocoque chasis. Other key highlights are:
  • The MPV will feature a relatively low-set cabin for easy ingress-egress and the large windows will provide the cabin with an airy feel.
  • The boot lid gets a top hinge and extends to the rear bumper for easy loading and the taillights are fashionably high-set.
  • Automatic climate control is said to be featured on the higher trims with air-con vents available for all three rows for more efficient cooling.
Engine Type/ Displacement - m-Falcon 1.6-litre Diesel
Power - 130 bhp
Torque - 300 Nm
Transmission (Gearbox) - 6-speed manual/6-speed automatic
Mileage - 18 kpl (estimated)

I have seen this vehicle in tamilnadu highways and they were speeding quite easy. I believe they will be a hoot to drive given the way the test drivers where taking it across the traffic

A monocoque UV the size of the Innova means LOTS of interior space and good leg room because the floor pan can be lower and not constrained by the chassis.

It also means, lower weight and hence possibly does well with a 1.6L engine and delivers better FE than a Innova.

Great job by M&M.

Monocoques typically handle better than ladder frame vehicles and that explains your observations also.

This will definetly give a tough time for the upcoming Ertiga refresh, Hexa and Crysta ( especially in the cab market )

Mahindra will launch its all-new MPV in the first quarter of 2018..... It is possible Mahindra could also offer captain chairs for the second row. Spied prototypes have been spotted with all-black interiors .....The MPV will also be the first Mahindra model to use a new 1.6-litre diesel engine developed with SsangYong. This mFalcon engine will find its way to future Mahindras as well; and on the MPV, it will make a healthy 130hp.

Mahindra is expected to price its new MPV in the Rs 10-15 lakh band. The pricing should put the new model in a sweet spot in the MPV segment, right between the Maruti Ertiga on the lower end and the more premium Toyota Innova Crysta on the higher end of the price ladder.
Would be very interesting to have AWD option available in this MPV.

re: New Mahindra MPV caught testing in Chennai. EDIT: Named Marazzo

Birdies are claiming that the Mahindra U321 MPV will share it's newly-developed 1.6L diesel engine with the upcoming Mahindra S201 compact SUV (Hyundai Creta competitor based on the Ssangyong Tivoli).

In the U321 MPV, this 1.6L turbocharged engine will be producing 125HP of power & 305Nm of torque.

When launched, the U321 MPV will be priced at a slight premium over the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga - hence slotting itself as a competitor (price-wise) against the Renault Lodgy and the Honda BR-V.

Check out the Honda BR-V next to the U321 MPV in the above pic, and you will immediately notice its narrow width .

  • Based on the color combo and what little can be seen of the dash, looks like the build & plastics is going to be very similar to the TUV, which is pretty good for M&M standards.
  • Steering again is a straight lift from the TUV.
  • The console looks very clean and modern.
  • Is that a tweeter/speaker in the A pillar? Hope the stock speakers are better than the very rudimentary ones that you get today in the TUV/Neosport
  • Hope the 1.6L engine and drive train wont have a lot of niggles/issues.

A very reliable birdie claims that the oil burner under the hood of the U321 MPV/S201 SUV is actually an 1.5L mFalcon diesel, and not an 1.6L as is being circulated around.

This 1.5L diesel is codenamed D15 (internally).

re: New Mahindra MPV caught testing in Chennai. EDIT: Named Marazzo

If they can make this with a reasonably usable third row, they'll have a winner. The vehicle looks wider than Crysta but almost same proportions of the Hexa. I like the high bonnet line which should give it good road presence. Hopefully they don't chrome / bling out the front grill and keep it upright unlike the Xylo.

re: New Mahindra MPV caught testing in Chennai. EDIT: Named Marazzo

So far, all the 1.5 litre engine MPVs are having third rows suitable for kids or small adults. This is deliberately done to prevent full fledged loading of the 3rd row with 3 heavy set adults which, with a full boot, would make the 1.5 litre engine run out of steam pretty quickly.

If the engine is indeed going to be 1.5 litres, I don't have much hope for the third row getting to be a full fledged one fit for adults.
