Looks like this MPV has taken some inspiration from SsangYong Stavic.

I really dont think this would be the tuv 500, but this could very well be the much awaited xylo replacement. And from the looks of it, this is another sucess from mahindra stable. Mahindra , if you are hearing, please do rope in professionals to tune in your dynamics like what tata did for the zest/bolt.
And for the tuv 500 , please come soon, a tank needs a bigger tank as its elder brother .

Mahindra's all new MPV has been tested spotting in Chennai. The test mule comes with enough styling cues to confirm that it's from Mahindra. This product is being developed by Mahindra's North American Technical Center. Not much details are available at this moment.

From the stance, it sits quite low, it looks M&M is trying a FWD / Monocoque combination.
Won't be surprised if it is based on the XUV 500 platform.

They can then utilise the long-ish XUV 500 wheelbase & retain the 7 seat layout.
Need to redo the upper body - which they seem to have done. Give it a new "top - hat" (auto industry jargon for upper body). And voila ! Maximum bang for minimum bucks. Wonder what would the be naming it ? Mahindra PAXO? lol:

Mahindra TUV500 MPV?

Looks far far better than the xylo, and m&m should replace xylo with this, but make sure they sort out all niggles before launch and don't make initial customers do the testing.

The rear seems to have good resemblence with that of xuv 5-O-O!

Exactly something they need to address right now, its way too low.

However using the XUV 500 platform should be ok, but they need to get the spacing right (if it has to really be a proper 7 seater) and watch out for the weight gain. The XUV 500 itself hovers around 1.8 tonnes while the Xylo weighs around 1.9. Mileage on the bigger vehicles has been one issue with Mahindra, and its time they worked on R&D for weight reduction to get maximum benefits.

Let's see how it pans out. Hopefully, it gives a good competition to the Innova.

From the picture it looks like a test mule. Am sure the final suspension settings, ride height etc still needs to be fettled. Shouldn't be a cause for concern.

IF this is XUV 500 platform based, and it looks like it, then it should not be much heavier than the XUV as, typically for an MPV, the roof gets raised and stretched a bit, so the amount of sheet metal "added" is not much.

Doubt they will pitch it against Innova as the present Crysta is way above the "mass market diesel powered 7 seater MPV price segment"
I think what Mahindra will do here is that they will try to position this in the "ERTIGA Plus - but - INNOVA Minus" slot.
My guess is the price band will be from INR 8.xx lakhs to INR 15.xx lakhs on road. Let's see!! :)

Wow! that a very well designed MPV with right proportions overall. The two major design signatures which are indicative of a Mahindra are: (1)Obviously the Mahindra grille, and (2) The Christmas-tree/tall tail light cluster on the rear as seen in the first picture, which seems to be heavily camouflaged though.
It comes as no surprise since Mahindra has a tall-lamp-philia, which also kinda sets them apart from the other rear designs.

Well to my judgement it will still be heavy, hopefully they have a revised platform with minor weight reductions. 1.8+ tonnes is still quite heavy.

Totally agree with you on the positioning, but you think this will bring the Xylo chapter to a close?

All-new MPV from Mahindra to take on Innova Crysta; likely to come with carmaker's new 1.99-litre diesel engine.
Mahindra is also reportedly working on a larger-capacity petrol engine from the same new-generation 'mFalcon' family that originated in the KUV100, which could also find its way under this MPV's bonnet in the future.

From the pics, one notes a couple of aspects -
  1. Bold horizontal V lines (>) above the back wheel arches.
  2. The spoiler at the back looks akwardly placed, if the tail lights are an indication of the length of the vehicle.

What is the box on the rear bumper?

Based on the skewed back, I assume M&M has specifically tried to show an elongated body, whereas it might be shorter in line with the spoiler.

If it is indeed based on XUV platform, it would be very difficult to price it in this bracket, even if they drop all the bells and whistles. I am sure they would be eyeing the space vacated by erstwhile Innova, which is primarily in commercial segment

I also doubt if it is monocoque construction.. No monocoque MPV has so far succeeded in Indian Cab market (to some extent Ertiga). Not that they are not capable, but generally the rugged body on frame construction has been preferred in this market

In the side profile, look at the length behind the rear window and the amount of rear overhang. Indicates that the 3rd seat would be quite spacious and there would be a decent boot. It may turn out to be a generous 7 seater.

Dear mustang_shelby,

You seem to be right on the 3rd row.
Even to me it looks like they have a spacious 3rd row OR a generous boot OR good 3rd row and decent boot.

The only down side would be the generous 'bounce' in the 3rd row - considering the overhang.

Since, I am looking for a 6+ seater with good ground clearance and luggage space, this would be interesting to me.
Anybody with any time estimates?
