re: New Mahindra MPV caught testing in Chennai. EDIT: Named Marazzo

Fresh spyshots, including interior shots, thanks to Shravan @ Speedhounds.

His observations:

Quote:
Seems like a mid variant
- Had Auto AC
- No Infotainment System
- Second Row AC vents on the roof
- Third row seems extremely cramped
- Third row has front facing seats
- Hand Brake is bulky looking with a different design
- Hand Brake seems to be too close to the driver seat, we doubt it is placed well. It might not be comfortable to the driver.
- No projector headlamps in mid/base variant
- No Center Front armrest, gets Hand rest for Front driver and passenger seats
- Bonnet seems to have a power bulge
- Gear Lever seems to be integrated with the dash, like Grand i10 and KUV
- Second Row seats seemed to have recline function
- Non LED tail lamps
- Steel Wheels
- Bumper Reflectors
- Shorter than Crysta longer than Ertiga.

This vehicle is an ergonomics mess as appears from the pics. Even if 2nd row has sliders, the 3rd row does not appears to have sufficient legroom. And if the 2nd rows are slid ahead, it seems people cannot enter as the doors & seats will block any space for climbing in.

I think the spyshots could have been better though the observations are quite relevant.

Sorry for the images as such. I was in a hurry as I was at this place for a meeting with an OEM client. But, yes the interior space is rubbish and I doubt if even kids would prefer the third row seat. Total disaster IMHO as I saw in flesh. Just look at the centre tunnel and the hand brake touching the driver seat, to understand the width. Also the driver seat armrest and hand brake are difficult to be used together.

Middle row seems to be set with too much of a recline. That could be the reason why it appears as if the rear room is so bad.

No way Mahindra would go ahead with such poor packaging, in an MPV. Even Ertiga offers better room than what is seen here.

Exactly my thoughts CrAzY dRiVeR ! Mahindra is not going to approve such a poor interior for something which is touted to be an alternative to the Innova. Even if this is a direct competitor to the Ertiga, I am sure this is not the final version of the interior. The production version will be much much better.

Thanks AVI sir for posting the pics It had three dummy headrests in the third row (like in Verito) and looked very spacious! Mahindra logo was clearly visible at the rear and had some testing equipment next to the steering wheel along with a few hanging cables . Overall was quite agile and had a tough time overtaking it in my Nexon.

The 3rd row seem to be really wide and can actually sit 3 in comfort !! however not sure how bland it will look at the back because of this excess width. Fleet operators are going to love this car for sure. People mover with more frugal heart is just perfect.

Spotted this one on Mumbai-Nashik highway this Saturday. Two of them were taking a U-turn, but we couldn't get close enough for a better look.

Nice catch. Looks like mid variant: steel wheels with caps. The vehicle looks completely finished. Launch may be imminent.

re: New Mahindra MPV caught testing in Chennai. EDIT: Named Marazzo

I am not very sure about this, but have heard this from someone who works for Mahindra and has seen this mpv up close.

This MPV has a ladder frame chassis not the monocoque and a transverse engine. He was also told that it's a very unique setup, also M&M is organising a meeting shortly which is related to this car. So, launch seems near. Though he wasn't sure about the answer to the big question, weather it's a FWD or a RWD? But my guess is if it's a ladder on frame chassis, then it should be a RWD setup as well, or could it be a FWD setup on a ladder frame with transverse engine?

A transverse engine layout would mean that it is a front wheel drive (or could be all wheel drive at the max). Usually RWD vehicles have longitudinal engine set-up.

Looks like ACI has also said it would have a low floor despite it being a body-on-frame construction.

But..

You meant, a ladder frame chassis AND a transverse engine?

Or that, it is a ladder frame chassis and is NOT a monocoque with transverse engine.?

Would be interesting if it is the the former.
Haven't heard of a body-on-frame with FWD since the old Toronados/Eldorados and haven't heard or read of anything with body-on-frame and transverse engined.

psstt.. Sincerely hoping it is BOF and RWD, or atleast just RWD.

The person who told me this, personally saw the underbody and was very confident that it was on rails i.e. has a ladder on frame chassis, not the monocoque chassis as speculated. He was also told that this setup is very unique and was last seen in some car around 1950's in India. He specifically mentioned that the engine placement is like the XUV and chassis is ladder on frame.
