I think this and further moves in this direction will also change the Sales ecosystems.

Just saw this, and not surprised at what Tata Motors is trying to do here. In an era where even big manufacturers like PSA and FCA have merged, Tata cannot sustain with their current performance levels in the long run. And even in India, you have manufacturers working together, one or the other, Maruti and Toyota, Mahindra and Ford, Kia and Hyundai. Obviously these partnerships will surely help these manufacturers to scale up at a lower cost and also in terms of capital infusion. Tata needs a strategic partner globally for JLR too, since even for JLR surviving alone in this competitive scenario is going to be difficult. With Chinese partners now out of the question, Tata has to look at some one like Mazda or even the erstwhile General Motors. Everyone else seems to have already merged or formed some sort of consortium with the another brand. I really wish Tata and VW had worked out something earlier, it could have helped both in India.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

The flagship of the Tata Group is in talks with multiple automakers, among them European and East Asian, to sell up to 49% stake in its India passenger vehicle business.

Link (Rumour: Tata Motors (passenger cars) to get a new partner, probably Chinese)

Let me also list out my points here. Kind of agreeing with you.
It seems Mahindra has lost their Mojo since the BS6 norms kicked in. They have not released a single new / facelift since then. Next Gen XUV500 is getting delayed, TUV 300 BS6 is no where and XUV 300 EV also is missing. The only confirmed news is the Next Gen THOR slated around Festive season.
You are absolutely right that this vehicle alone will not get them more than 1500 - 2000 vehicles in addition.
Another major problem for them is they don’t have many smaller Sub 7Lakhs cars which are popular. Somehow KUV is not to my liking and in today's day and age of Hyundai and Kia beauties, KUV does not ring the bell for most consumers in this segment.

They will need to pull up their socks, focus on new launches for BS6 portfolio and then let’s take it from there.

Also there was initially a debate whether it makes sense to launch new cars now during the pandemic and whether its better to postpone launches to next year.
This is tricky and there are no correct answers.
While new car sales are almost back to the pre pandemic levels, it remains to be seen what the festive season brings for the car manufacturers.
Also delaying new launches has a huge risk, new competition, pricing challenges, out of sight out of mind etc.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Tata motors leads the EV sales with #NexonEV ! More than 1000 units sold since launch , sold 198 units in March 2020. Monthly sales peaked to near 300 units in August 2020, that's about 10% of its ICE cousins.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

It is very good to see Tata rocking the sales chart which is fathomable considering their excellent product lineup. However, it remains to be seen how they cope up with the increased customers in terms of ASS.

It is also to be seen how the newly launched Kia Sonnet, Mahindra Thar and Renault Duster 1.3 turbo petrol affects the sales figures September onwards.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Apart from the top 5, Honda sees a good growth.
Jeep and VW yet to come to last year figures. With no new products, it will be struggle for sure. I noticed that Jeep Diesel AT (4*4) middle variant retails at around 27 lac on road in Pune. Too steep, isn't it?
What's wrong with Toyota? Not selling enough Baleno's (as per last year number).

Domestic wholesale of 2.92 lakh units is close to a record. I think the industry touched 3 lakhs only once before.

Great showing by everyone. Looks like we are going to see a very good festive season.

I'm not really surprised. I just drove down to Kerala from Mumbai. Lost count of how many new Tiagos and Altroz I spotted.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

When you walk in to a TML store cars you see now a days are facelifted Tiago, facelifted Tigor, new Altroz, facelifted Nexon, electric Nexon, and new Tata Harrier. Nothing reminds you about old indigo/indica/sumo etc. All looks great and it is hard to ignore them and walk out.

TML now need a new rugged boxy SUV (modern sumo), people mover MPV (upgraded hexa would do), micro SUV (Hornbill), and if possible an executive sedan (Altroz based) + couple of electric versions to complete the range.

Tata Motors Sep 2020 Sales Is Highest In 8 Years – Record 162% Growth

Tata Motors Sep 2020 Sales Is Highest In 8 Years – Record 162% Growth : Link

Quote:
Tata Motors monthly sales has surpassed the 20k mark. This is remarkable when September 2020 sales of 21,200 units is compared against 8,097 units sold in September 2019, which puts sales growth at 162 percent.

The current market atmosphere has been encouraging for a majority of manufacturers in last month, more so Tata motors on account of low base sales of September 2019.

This isn’t the first time Tata Motors has crossed the 20k barrier. But yes, that feat seems to have been forgotten in recent months and years.
In fact, 8 years ago, in the September of 2012, Tata Motors had sold 21,652 units.
Great Going by Tata Motors

Re: Tata Motors Sep 2020 Sales Is Highest In 8 Years – Record 162% Growth

One must appreciate the foreign CEOs of Tata Motors, first, the late Karl Slym (from GM) and now Günter Butschek (from Daimler & Airbus), for not only stopping the rapid slide of the company, but also for re-energising the brand and firmly setting it on the right path again.

Had it not been for these two foreign CEOs and the manner in which they shook things up at Tata Motors, the company would have stared at an exit from the car market in 2014/2015.

They have now regained the third position they ceded to competitors long, long ago. Things are looking good for the future as well.
