Now, in December 2022, Tata Motors has outperformed at 40,043 units in the domestic market. Hyundai sold 38,831 units during the last month of the year.
TATA Motors has taken the second spot from Hyundai for the third time in 2022. The Challange has remained constant and consistent and Hyundai does face the chance to loose the spot if TATA turns more agressive. For the moment, TATA has no new cars in the pipeline for the near future except upgrades and facelifts.

TATA has more electric vehicles in the lineup. Let's see what TATA has up the sleeves this AUTOEXPO.

With Tiago EV and the planned Punch EV, Tata should take the 2nd spot from Hyundai, IMO. Currently, they are selling around 3.5k to 4k EVs per month. But now with Ford's Sanand Plant takeover, they would be able to enhance their production by multiple times.

So, in my opinion, Tata will surpass Hyundai in 2023, in terms of cumulative calendar year sales.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Tata Motors to launch 10 new products in 24-36 months

TATA Motors seems to have planning a car launch blitzkrieg. 10 new products in the coming 24-36 months! A product every quarter raising their sales to 65-70k a year!!

Seems will surely snatch the No 2 from Hyundai. With EVs shifting production to Sanand and keeping Pune plant for ICE, TATA will have a huge capacity ready. Hyundai has no new plant and is grappling with capacity and supply chain. They have not been planning capacity expansion as far as I know.

Intense war is in the offering.

Incremental volumes from new products may help Tata Motors drive ahead of Hyundai as India’s second largest carmaker.

Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company by revenues, is launching one new product every quarter in its car business for the next two to three years, as it seeks to sustain a strong market outperformance in the coming years.

Tata Motors is planning for 20% growth in volumes in the next year – with a monthly production plan of 55,000 to 60,000 units a month, said sources. The annual sales could range from 660,000 to 700,000 units in the next year or so.

If one goes through the article, the following models are the "10 new products" planned in the next 3 years.

1) Altroz EV
2) Altroz CNG
3) Punch EV
4) Punch CNG
5) Nexon facelift
6) Harrier facelift
7) Safari Facelift
8) Curvv
9) Sierra
10) Avinya

Apart from this, I am sure they will have limited edition and sticker editions of all their models to keep the car updated in the market. But would all these significantly increase sales as per what they wish? CNG and EV products won't add many numbers for now. Same case with Harrier/Safari facelift or any other sticker jobs. The only real contenders are the Nexon facelift and the 3 new cars.

But the bigger question is -- only 3 new models in the next 3 years? Not that encouraging to be honest.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

There are a few things that Tata is doing better than the competion

1. Giving variety in the EV space and trying to cater to as many market segments as possible from below 10 L to the 25 L space (in the next 24 months)

2. The CNG innovation of adding 2 tanks and getting some usable boot space will have customers in the regions where CNG is doing well to consider these cars than the competion

3. Excellent exterior design decisions, the Harrier ev is a precursor to the Harrier and Safari face lift. Melding the Sierra silhouette to a practical design.

They are also slowly shoring up their weakness in the areas of Infotainment, connectivity and Engines (from what i have seen in the Auto Expo Coverage)

It took Honda 20 years (from late 60's to 80's ) to become the cars they are known for today. Similar is the story of Hyundai and the Korean car makers, Tata is evolving and will slowly but surely shore up their shortcomings.

They need to space their new designs and facelift in such a way to keep in the heart and mind of people. Bring back the iconic ads from 90's like the Sierra's and Safari's to today's day and age.

The India automotive market rewards good designs and value for money and if Tata can keep their dealership to follow their values, work on QC then they will taste more success.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Roughly 4 years ago, Tata announced that, by 2023(or was it 2024?) , Tata will have cars in 90 percent of the segments. It's 2023 now, there's no car in 4.3m SUV segment. Nor is there a mini MPV. They have the platform for it! But no. Nothing much happened.

I wouldn't believe Tata's launch timelines until its close to production.

Time lines have drifted due to Covid impact. You should give a year and a half of leniency for it coupled with financial troubles faced due to JLR losses. By 2025 they will be back with a bang.

More than the total sales, look at those EV numbers, very impressive 6500 units. There was a time few years back their total monthly sales were around this number.

Their EV sales alone is more than Honda, Renault, MG, VW, Skoda... Total monthly sales numbers.

Tata posts highest annual domestic sales of 5,38,640 units

Tata Motors scaled a new sales peak by posting its highest ever annual domestic sales of 5,38,640 units

Quote:
Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said,
FY23 has set a new record for passenger vehicle sales in India. While SUVs and EVs led this growth, customers’ rising preference for safe vehicles and smart technology features was equally pronounced.

Tata Motors scaled a new sales peak by posting its highest ever annual domestic sales of 5,38,640 units, achieving a robust 46% sales growth over FY22 and registering its third successive year of industry beating growth. All four SUVs – Nexon, Punch, Harrier and Safari, recorded their highest ever annual sales, contributing a substantial 66% of the total volume.

Tata Motors crossed the significant landmark of 50,000 EV sales in FY23, its highest ever, to post a significant growth of 154% over FY22. In addition, we also recorded the highest ever quarterly and monthly EV sales of 15,960 (Q4FY23) and 6,509 (Mar’23) respectively. EV penetration in our portfolio continued to increase from ~7% (Q1FY23) to ~12% (Q4FY23) of our total sales.

I don't think it was 10 cars in 3 years: It was 10 EVs by 2025.

Gen 1 - 4 (nexon, tigor, max and tiago)
Gen 2 - 4 (Altroz, Punch, Harrier/Safari & Curvv)
Gen 3 - 2 Cars on AVINYA platform.

On ICE: we have Curvv coming in 24. The rest seems to be mostly upgrades and facelifts for Harrier/Safari, Nexon, tiago/tigor.

Once Curvv is in the market, Tata will not have a sedan (limited market) and an MPV (Hexa update maybe).

We may even see Tata take a good 10% off from Maruti by 2025 with EVs making major sales (already doubled monthly sales with the intro of tiago.ev).
