Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

If I am in the market for a vehicle my first priority will be to always check the resale market. Vehicle which do not depreciate much will be my priority.
Long back I advised my friend to buy Logan for their farm in DK. Was I wrong?
Whole of N America sticks to Toyota and Honda for this very reason - resale value.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Tata Motors is betting big on sales from Tier-II/III cities, younger customers and rural markets for the FY2018-19. The company has set itself an ambitious growth target for the coming year and aims to achieve it by expanding its dealership count by 100 new dealerships by the end of this fiscal year.

The company currently has 746 outlets across India.

Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!-nexon.jpg

S N Barman, Tata Motors VP, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, Passenger Vehicle business unit:

Quote:
Tata Motors had a very fast paced growth of over 35 per cent in the non-metro or smaller cities compared to about 25 per cent rise in sales in the metros.
Rich features and fresh styling of Tiago and Nexon has got great acceptance among the young buyers. Over 60 per cent of customers are in the age group of 30-35 years.
We are expecting to sell at least 75,000 cars in the villages and this we would be doing by targeting at least 75,000 villages while we also expect to touch at least 30,000 higher secondary schools in the rural areas.
Our company will add 100 new dealerships this year to push this targeted growth.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Tata Motor's UV market share has risen by nearly 4 times since it's bestseller compact SUV, the Nexon, was launched back in September 2017.

Quote:
Launched in September 2017, the home-grown carmaker’s UV market share has been consistently on the rise since the crossover’s introduction. From being pegged at 2.68 percent in August 2017, Tata Motors’ UV market share today stands at a healthy 8.31 percent, with the company selling 6,578 UVs in the month of April 2018 (April 2017: 1,607 / 2.27 percent).
Passenger car sales, on the other hand, grossed 10,657 units, maintaining its market hold at 5.32 percent (April 2017: 11,220 / 5.88 percent). Tata Motors sold a total of 19,157 units, last month – a substantial increment of 36.19 percent over year-ago sales of 14,066 units – thus increasing its PV market share from 5.07 percent in April 2017 to 6.42 percent, a year later.
While the company saw continued demand for the Tiago hatchback, it also witnessed more than three-fold growth in its UV sales based on the strong performance of the Nexon – somewhat aided by marginal numbers of the full-size Hexa SUV, as well, which sold 818 units in the month. The Nexon has cumulatively sold 33,088 units since its launch.

For a company that is trying to reinvent itself, the YoY growth percentage on the RHS would be a more relevant measure of its success than absolute numbers compared to the nearest rival.

There is a 15% difference in numbers between the two, but the former is growing at 2% while the latter is growing at 61% - again, these are not indicative enough as this a month-to-month comparison.

What is clear though is that the latter now has the momentum.

Its a matter of when, not if.

While Tata India recorded best performance in past 5 years, the whole unit put up a worst quarterly loss in 9 years -https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...w/65221191.cms .
Looks like Tata cannot keep JLR and Tata motors India happy path at same time.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

The 3rd spot seem to be elusive to Tata's in August sales figures.

Will be behind Mahindra's but a slot above Honda.

Looks like, Tata may have indeed bagged the 3rd spot in August, ahead of Mahindra and Honda.

Also, read on another forum, that Tata Nexon sold 5122 units in Aug 2018. If accurate, this is a great show from the newest Tata kid on the block.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Quote:
September auto sales indicate Tata cars finding traction

Even as most car manufacturers witnessed a decline in domestic sales in September due to high fuel and product prices, Tata Motors’ performance was significant.

The passenger vehicles (PV) division of Tata Motors reported 7% growth in domestic sales as compared to the same period last year. All carmakers other than Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar reported contraction in passenger vehicle sales in the latest period, from a year earlier.

Maruti Suzuki reported 0.7% growth in passenger vehicles sales, which included multi purpose vehicles and passenger cars. During the period, Maruti sold 1.4% less passenger cars as compared to the same period last year.

Hyundai reported a decline of 4.5%, while Mahindra sold 16% less passenger vehicles in the domestic market.

The domestic sales of Honda Motors were down 19%, while Ford Motors sold 6.4% less cars in India as compared with the same period last year. Toyota Kirloskar reported a growth of 1.43%.

The spectacular show by Tata Motors in September clearly indicates that the company’s new generation cars are now finding buyers even in difficult times. It also gives credence to the company’s submission that the turnaround plan is panning out well.

The company’s PV division reported domestic sales of 18,429 units compared with 17,286 units in September last year, a 7% rise.

This is the third consecutive month when sales at the passenger vehicles division grew significantly, while the industry sales shrank. “The continuous strong demand for our new generation vehicles has led to this consistent month-on-month growth,” Tata Motors said.

The small hatchback Tiago continues to attract new customers with the recent introduction of Tiago NRG. Tiago sales have crossed 300 units per day. SUV Nexon has been accepted well. So has Hexa. “Nexon AMT and Nexon KRAZ limited edition have received an overwhelming response, witnessing good traction in the market,” Tata Motors said.

In a recent interaction, Mayank Pareek, president, PV Business, Tata Motors, said that the company’s cars were being developed based on customer feedback rather than market research. There has been heavy emphasis on quality and high design which is leading to more sales.

Consumer preferences
“People now want superior infotainment, higher safety features even in entry level cars. So we are providing Harman infotainment systems [which are generally provided in BMW 7 series or Mercedes S class] in Tiago.” he said.

The company is segmenting the customers to sell more cars. In the first five months of this financial year, the Tatas sold 37% more cars as compared with industry growth of about 9%.

“We have done something special,” Mr. Pareek said.

He said since the Tata brand had some perception issues in the cities, the company started focussing on smaller towns where the brand was well accepted.
