If the quoted price is for SLE model, it is a cool 1.4L cheaper than the equivalent 2.5L engine.

re: Mahindra's sub-4 meter Bolero. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 6.59 lakh!

Price revealed : 1 Lakh cheaper than regular Bolero!!

Quote:
Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has launched a sub-four-meter Bolero, called the Bolero Power+, at a price of Rs 6.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai), making it cheaper than the regular Bolero SLE (Rs 7.59 lakh) by Rs 1 lakh.

The Bolero Power+ gets a new 1,493cc, 1.5-litre engine dubbed mHawkD70, which is a three-cylinder unit that delivers 71hp at 3,600rpm and 195Nm of torque at 1,400-2,200rpm, and is mated to a five-speed manual. The standard Bolero with its 2.5-litre on the other hand engine delivers 63hp and 195Nm of torque. The new unit is also slightly more fuel efficient at 16.5kpl compared to the Bolero 2.5’s 15.96kpl.

In terms of dimensions, the Bolero Power+ is 3,995mm long, 1,745mm wide and 1,880mm high. This means while the width and height is the same as the standard Bolero, it is slightly shorter by 112mm. The interior dimensions of the standard model has also been retained which means there has been no change in cabin space. The Bolero Power+ is available in a seven-seat configuration with the third row getting opposite facing jump seats.

Mahindra has cleverly altered the front and rear bumpers of the Bolero to shave off length. The substantial reduction in price has been achieved thanks to excise tax benefits offered to vehicles with length under four meters and with engine displacement below 1.5 litres.

Three trim levels are on offer on the Bolero Power+, with the top-spec ZLX getting tech like Mahindra’s Micro Hybrid system, an audio player with Bluetooth/USB/AUX/CD, body-coloured wing mirrors, rear washer and wiper to name a few. Mahindra is offering a three-year/ one-lakh km warranty on the Bolero Power+.

The Bolero which has been on sale for a long time has been popular in the rural markets. But of late, the carmaker has seen a decline in sales. With the cheaper Bolero Power+, Mahindra aims to regain its lost market share but the segment is now very cluttered with Mahindra itself launching four sub-four-metre SUVs within one year.

re: Mahindra's sub-4 meter Bolero. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 6.59 lakh!

It looks the same as the outgoing Bolero from the outside except the front and rear bumpers which almost don't protrude at all. Official launch at the dealership is at 5PM, though SLX variant was there for display outside in the parking lot. SA said the prices will be revealed after 5PM. Clicked some pics of the SLX variant. Looks like I didn't click the instrument cluster pic as I was in a hurry! Sorry for that.

So now the bumpers are almost negligible, especially up front. Wonder how much impact the new ones would take. Would've loved to do some more tweaks on the inside. But I guess even this will sell, and in fact this to me is more appealing than the weird-looking TUV300.

Smart move - reducing used space at the front, and leaving the rear intact.

And about your last point here - it WILL SELL !!

re: Mahindra's sub-4 meter Bolero. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 6.59 lakh!

Mahindra will gradually phase out the old Bolero. There is no point in having two models which are priced 1Lakh apart and changes in the length of bonnet/bumper and a smaller engine. For Bolero, whether the engine is a 2.5L unit or 1.5L unit, or the kind of nose it is making should not be an issue.

All is well with Bolero, but hope they will not try to make Scorpio and XUV as sub-4m SUVs.

I wonder if Mahindra has left a provision to attach the old bumpers back, as an aftermarket choice.

Given the user profile of Bolero owners, I am sure they will appreciate getting back the additional protection (possibly, only perceived) of the larger old bumpers.

Hopefully, someone from the press will ask this question and post an answer.

Another way of getting the answer, would be to tweet a few of the journos covering the event currently (they should be posting on Twitter) ... they'll be able to ask the question and get an answer double quick.

Cheers,

FourWheelDrift

P.S. No, I don't have a Twitter account ...

Scorpio is 4493mm in length, While bolero was 4107mm before shaving off the bumpers.

So be rest assured a sub 4m scorpio is not coming, since it will involve heavy changes.

Gradability at low speeds needs to be checked out.

Well, considering Mahindra shortened the Xylo from 4520 mm to sub 4m for the Quanto, we shouldn't be surprised if they are able to do a sub 4m Scorpio.

However, how a shortened Scorpio would look, and how long it would give an advantage (given upcoming GST which will take away the 4m excise benefit), is another matter altogether.

Cheers,

True, but also consider that Scorpio is a old model in their lineup and they already have 4 Sub4m SUV's.
Scorpio is heavier than Xylo, hence not sure if this engine can do justice in Scorpio.

XUV is their flagship model, Mahindra would not want to ruin its image by chopping it.

Re: Mahindra's sub-4 meter Bolero. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 6.59 lakh!

I wonder why Mahindra didn't try this out first?

This should have been their first sub 4 meter SUV logically, instead they worked on the Xylo

Wish they had given TUV's dash as it would looked good and ergonomic flaws would have been taken care of.

Kudos to Mahindra for their desire to keep churning out new models and facelifts.

I guess the next project in pipeline would be the LWB TUV (500) with a 3rd row bench seat.
