There was a time when Maruti was trailing to these competitors in terms of product design, desirability, features and safety. But now, Maruti is up with very competitive products. Nobody can write off Maruti as a brand of the past. It is actually, ahead of many of those "late comers" in India! Add to that the unmatched service network, it will take a lot to dethrone them from the numero uno position.

Strange! Why is Toyota missing from this list? Toyota is the largest automobile company by market cap and is valued at $156 billion.

Agreed, Creta has won over Scross, but what about Brezza?

MS can only keep its lead and may be even increase its market share, only if its keeps re-inventing itself with better products with more features and better engines.

Major auto manufactures draw out their investment plan in India, a country set to become the 3rd largest market for Passenger Vehicle by the turn of the decade.

Segment leader draws out massive expansion plans. Sitting on a cash reserve of INR 23,000 crore, will aggressively invest in infrastructure to double its sales and service network by 2020.
Will also infuse $ 780 million in the 3rd plant in Gujarat by 2020 thus taking the cumulative investment in the state to $ 1.5 billion.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

An amazing insight into what Maruti did when GM/other competitors first arrived in India - from an insider.
http://www.livemint.com/Opinion/J0IF...-in-India.html

Quote:
GM worried us. It had lots of resources, and even more experts (and expats). We were nervous, confident, afraid, excited—and all at once. The “barbarians” were at the gates and we had nothing (well almost) to fight them with.
Quote:
On the day GM launched, we were all over their showrooms in our grey Maruti Udyog uniforms; under, over, below, inside their cars, inside their heads. We collected sales material, market pitches, and insights shamelessly. The GM dealers and the company’s own executives stood around, mouths agape (Hyundai got the same treatment)
Quote:
their cars were soon being torn apart, bolt by nut, neatly labelled and nailed onto the walls of our product development lab

Maruti guys probably ripped apart Ecosport too - to help them build the Brezza.

Pretty Ironic what happened to GM eventually in India.
And just to add here, GM India was not a saint either. I distinctly remember while looking to buy a C segment sedan in 2004, we were comparing the Optra and the Honda city. Obviously we mentioned this to the Chevy SA, what he came with, 5 min later I can never forget.

A 4 part flip out photo of the Honda city (NHC at that time) which flipped open to reveal an Indica. Basically telling me that it looks so similar to an Indica

Just goes to show how much their marketing department worked not on just their cars, but even on their competitors. Haven't seen such bad competitor shaming ever since.

With all those efforts this is where it stands today

Even after GM's announcement of exiting the market, it still sells more cars than the other American brand in India- FCA!

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

This is Maruti Suzuki's path in market share in the world’s fifth-largest car market. Now Maruti Suzuki is bigger than the rest of the industry put together for the first time in over a decade.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

n its bid to sell 2 million vehicles by 2021-22, Maruti Suzuki has already firmed up plans to double its dealership network to 6,000 outlets.

Maruti Suzuki to tap young entrepreneurs to run its dealership network.

Quote:
Maruti Suzuki will be leasing out its dealership network to young auto enthusiasts. What the company will simply do is build the infrastructure and let these modern entrepreneurs run its showrooms for a certain period of time. However, its traditional approach of appointing new dealers or expanding network with existing partners will remain on track. The main difference will be on the kind of approach that will be used by these young owners who may directly deal with the customers. In the initial phase, around 1,000 such touch points will be offered to these youngsters as a pilot test.
Quote:
Many young & experienced professionals, who aspire to run a dealership but can’t do so due to fund crunch, may be able to own this dream. These professionals with their passion may challenge the way how the dealerships are currently operated by multi-millionaire people. This will not only bring the cost down but also make customers feel the difference as these professionals will be a lot more reachable to the consumer than the owners of the dealerships

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki is sitting on order backlog of 1.5 lakh units ( Vitara Brezza+ Baleno+ New Dzire).

The three models continue to witness strong demand and the waiting period stands at 16 weeks for Baleno and new Dzire and 22 weeks for Brezza.

Quote:
While the demand for some of the existing models is robust, Maruti is also gearing up roll out a few new models during this fiscal. A new variant of S-Cross, a new Swift and a petrol version of Brezza are expected.
Quote:
Maruti’s Gujarat factory produced about 24,000 units during Q1 of this fiscal and it is expected to reach full capacity operation by the end of this fiscal. The production ramp up will ease company’s capacity constraints and may help drive higher sales of its popular models like Baleno and Vitara Brezza.
